Real Fight Club In Union Square, NY!?

Apologies, as this news is now old. Though I didn't see too many people discussing it here on The Cult. My buddy Josh sent it my way.

It seems there was a real live fight club going on, right in the center of Union Sqaure in NYC late May.

The cops ended up stopping it, but still... this is wild.

Here's a video story ESPN.com did on real fight clubs. It chronicles a group of Sillicone Valley workers who meet regularly to do you know what. Prepare though: This isn't what you'd immediately imagine in your head when you hear 'fight club' and think of the movie. I dare say, this looks a little ridiculous.

This will be short.

Because I have been enlightened...

I saw the film again today. I saw it as a movie this time. Not as a book to film analysis. Not as a crisis. Not as a research paper. But as a movie.

And it is perfect.

I mean that.

Quite flawless really.

I sat there this time with a look of awe on my face for the two hours plus that it was on screen. I had missed so much the first time around in my attempt to not miss anything. I heard lines I had misheard. I saw images I had only watched.

Fincher is a genius. This is filmmaking at the top of the game. Over 90% of the world's director's will never approach this level of moviemaking. I want to hug him and kiss his hand. He delivered one of the toughest adaptations I have ever read to the screen...perfectly.

See this film twice. Or else you haven't seen it at all.

aka: Two and half years in the making

Why do I say 2 and a half years in the making? Answer: because that's when it began for me. Through the pipeline, from the grapevine, on the information highway, I basically gathered that a screenplay called "The Fight Club" written by a newcomer was gathering quite a buzz. It was "hot" as the industry called it. Already, a minor war had began over who would get the rights to it....etc. I took it upon myself to delve further into this mysterious screenplay finding out little more then that it was a movie about yuppies beating the crap out of each other. Interested??? Not really.

The Palahniuk fan is divided into two classes. Those who have seen Fight Club. And those are going to. For those of you that have seen it, you understand the tone of this page and know why we're so passionate about this film. We call ourselves a cult here because that's exactly the type of unity that Fight Club caused among so many movie-goers. So even though ChuckPalahniuk.net is an "author site," this section is dedicated solely to the movie that helped kick start all of this into motion in the first place.
