Communism - A child's glimpses in Communist Romania
I wrote this today on impulse and for whatever reason thought of publishing it here. Excuse any grammatical errors, I haven't proofread it yet.
Enjoy.
A child's glimpses in Communist Romania
I was born in 1979 in Romania, at the height of the Communist dictatorship that had been ruling this country for decades. When you're a kid, the world around you doesn't revolve around politics or the problems of society but takes simpler forms such as "will I get socks or toys for Christmas this year?". Nevertheless, this simpler world of black and white, of good and evil, of right and wrong, is the one you're living in and pieces of it enter your life whether you like it or not. read more »
Need info on any of the following?
Just thought Id post a bit of my expertise in things that may have a healthy amount of questions. The following is a short list, along with an explanation.
-Emergency services (especially in Massachusetts) This includes what happens when you dial 911, the process involved in getting an Ambulance (Im an EMT), fire/rescue and/or police
-Emergency medicine - what EMTs and Doctors in the ER are doing/looking for, including medical terminology, technology and various tests that go on.
-What happens in an MCI (multiple casualty incident, such as a terrorist attack, chemical leak, natural disasters, etc.)
-Anything emergency really...
-Nuclear history, especially when dealing with the 1945 bombings over Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Those are just some of my specialties. Medicine is really where its at, but I also dabble in translation and language, history, fire arms, military, anatomy/physiology, pathology, survivalism.
Just offering what I can.
Transgressive Literature/Art Website
I have considered for a very long time now putting together a website for transgressive literature. It would either be a monthly online magazine, or a community based literary journal-esque site updated constantly. I would like to make it a resource for finding new voices/faces in transgressive literature, art, etc. I would also like to have anti pop culture editorials on a consistent basis. I think it would be a way to open up the genre a bit, and create a community of individuals who enjoy that niche of art.
Where I am stuck right now is the fact that I have no experience in building a website, but given the right tools, I think I could manage. I am going to have to find someone eventually who will be able to maintain a site for me and offer more sophisticated materials as I go forward. read more »
The Church of Latter Day Saints and YOU!
Kind of inspired by the Jehovah's Witness thread, I decided to post here.
I was raised Mormon, and for a time was being groomed to spend my life working for the Church.
Please ask any and all questions you might have as there are a lot of misconceptions about the crazier sides of Mormonism.
I no longer consider myself LDS.
Drugs and Behavioral Sciences
The areas I have extensive knowledge of are drugs and their effect on the mind, body, and life of the person taking them.
Especially opiate drugs, but I do know some things about stimulants.
I'm not too well versed in benzos though (IE: Valium, Ativan, Xanax, etc) but I know a little bit.
I know a lot about psychoactive pharmaceuticals as well, such as Prozac, Celexa, Seroquil, Welbutrin, Geodon, Zyprexa, and some others. Plus I have a little bit of knowledge when it comes to other drugs.
Also I'm really knowledgeable when it comes to mental disorders such as severe depression, dysthymia, schizophrenia, post traumatic stress disorder, and general social phobias.
While I'm not a doctor I have lived in a situation where I was privy to an on staff psychiatrist 24/7 who specialized in drug treatment for more than six months.
Plus not to mention that I've been in therapy and taking various medications since I've been eight years old. read more »
Anything Automotive.
I don't know much about most things, but I know cars pretty well. I've owned a business that does repair, accessories, and customization for the last five years and I am happy to answer car questions for anyone who asks.
I Know Diamonds (and colored stones)
I'm currently a Gemologist at GIA in California. It's a great job, there are a lot of interesting things to know about diamonds, grading, measurements, formation, sales, the market, security (well, only so much I can say there)... etc.
I always like sharing knowledge, so if you want info for a character who knows diamonds or colored stones, works with high end jewelry, or anything of the sort, I'm your guy.
Okay, that's all for now.
Urban Exploration
Urban Exploration is the art of trespassing for no apparent reason. Most people do it for the cheap thrills and a few pictures. Some do it for the time machine aspect. Personally I believe that buildings left full of machines and file cabinetry left in the hands of teenagers with magic mushrooms and white supremacists actually says a lot about humanity.
A few things we do not do as urban explorers is:
- Steal
- Vandalize
- Search for ghosts
Really it is ultimately a pathetic mantra.
Random tidbit...
Time Tripping verb the act of taking LSD in order to go back in time. Good acid should get you to the seventies and sixties, but be careful the wrong dosage may get you stuck in the eighties for up to a week. read more »
Circuit Bending
I'm a student. I'm a musician. So, out of a desire to build pedals in an effort to save money, I found myself tampering with preexisting circuits to make them my own. I've been at it a few months now, so I still have a lot to learn, but I'm willing to pass on what I know to those interested.
Here's one of my contraptions:
Sports Betting, Casino Strategies and Gambling
I've been in the business a long time, so if you have questions about game strategy, booking action or the psychology of a degenerate gambler feel free to ask.
