Hey everyone,
We're doing some late Summer renovations at The Cult and one of the sections we would like to improve upon is our Book sections. We never had a great Quotes addition to each book section. Rather, I had to do outside links to other read more »
the sequel
the thing i liked most about this book is that even on the last two pages i wasn't quite sure if chuck was gonna write a sequel or if he was going to wrap it up there. as i have noticed in a lot of his books there's a message. the one I personally got from lullaby was a representation of all major power groups that has ever existed being in a car together. the one who wishes to rebel, the one who wants all the power, the one with all the power, and the one who wants peace. I loved the book, but his message was said. he could write a sequel and i would love it. but i understand why he doesn't. the book isn't about the unanswered questions of if Helen gets another body, or if they stop oyster, or which side Mona chooses in the end. it was about the message and its been said.
Lullaby Themes
From conversing with the people I know personally (most of whom did not recommend reading this book), I was told it leaves a reader with too many unanswered questions. As of this writing, I don't think this book garners nearly enough credit for its complexity and skill (at least from the majority of people who read it). It goes much deeper than just the obvious themes of power and corruption on the surface.
Lullaby had so many layers, and initially I felt like I was left scratching my head on a few of the book's reoccurring themes/actions. For example, I hated the lack of details regarding Helen's real estate ghost business. Beyond the ongoing supernatural relevancy, I just didn't get it. . . read more »
Missing Pages?
Hey guys, I bought Lullaby when it first came out years ago. My copy of the book had about 33 pages missing, i.e., they were mostly blank but on some pages you could make out some words. At the time I assumed it was a gimmick (for lack of a better term) to make the reader wonder what had happened in those pages (since I remember the print came back right at the beginning of a chapter).
I sold the book on Amazon this summer & the buyer is wondering if the book is defective. I've done a little poking around but havent found anything- is my book defective or is this how its supposed to be?
thanks.
Something I never understood
Why didn't Streator just kill Oyster when he hit Helen or talked about destroying all of humanity? You'd think that because Oyster didn't have the shield until a lot later, and he was causing large amounts of problems the entire book, he'd just kill him, since he didn't seem to have a problem killing people like those radio personalities, or even Nash when he felt he was a problem. He could have avoided all of his problems in the end by just killing Oyster, why didn't he?
Haunted Houses
Were the houses that Helen sold actually haunted? Or was she somehow staging all the creepy stuff so people would leave the homes so she could sell them again?
I kind of feel that she knew some spells from the very beginning, and was using those to haunt the places...
Why isn't Helen dead? *Spoilers*
Hey all, I'm a bit confused with the ending. In chapter 43 Carl recites the culling song while holding Helen (after Oyster has left her body so Helen's mind is back in her body). Why doesn't Helen die at this point? Instead, she's alive in the Sarge's body at the end. Did she figure Carl was going to recite the culling song to her, so she quickly uses the occupation spell to possess the Sarge's body again before Carl could kill her?
Any thoughts on this?
Culling song
I was wandering if there is an actual culling song. i couldn't find it online if anyone can tell me where to find one or if its real that would be great.
