Hey everyone,

We're doing some late Summer renovations at The Cult and one of the sections we would like to improve upon is our Book sections. We never had a great Quotes addition to each book section. Rather, I had to do outside links to other

has fight club actually changed your values?

I am doing a speech for a class and was just wondering how many people in here actually have had a change in their own personal values or beliefs after reading Fight Club. Many may joke and say that they "have embraced their inner tyler durden" or that they believe they are "not their fucking khakis" and stuff like that. But i wonder are there any people who after reading this novel would say that they see the world differently or something along those lines. And if you could point me towards an article or another forum post about this topic i would appreciate it.

You are not your.....

....clothes.

I know this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it anywhere. If Tyler is such an anti-consumerist and claims that, "you are not your clothes," why does he dress with so much style? The only thing I noticed about the way he dresses is that it seems as if he doesn't match, but still dresses with style.

Enlightenment

What do you think is the meaning of it exactly? I found this online and it sounded like it would fit fight club what do you think?

There are a number of portals to stop thinking.

Being present .

living in the now.

Your body is the best way to becoming present. It is a gateway. Once you are present in the moment, your mind will cease, only occasionally trying to get your attention in many clever ways.

When you are living in the present moment, there are no problems, there is no fear, there is no more torment.

It is possible to live with no mind. The mind cannot exist without past or future, you will notice it taking into projected futures or reliving the past over and over.

The mind cannot control you if you manage to stay present.

The continual state of no mind is called enlightenment.

Fight Club essay

Fight Club is my favrite book and I really would like to use it as a topic for one of my college application essays. I have thought of a few ideas for essays but does anyone have any others for me? Help is much appreiciated!

question about tyler

"Every time you fall asleep," Tyler says, "I run off and do something wild, something crazy, something completely out of my mind."

-so does this mean that the narrator never sleeps?

Narrowing my search

I have a list of favorite movie obsessions that have faded in and out in the order below.  They all have a common thread.  A.)  How possible they are B.) in relation to how insane you have to be.

The first movie is the Matrix.  The plot is entirely impossible but you only have to be moderately insane to make it work.  The second movie is Saw I-IV.  The plot is entirely possible but you have to be incredibly insane.  Then there's Fight Club (my current obsesssion).  The plot is entirely possible and you only have to be moderately insane (lucky for me I've been working on it for years).  Anyone else inspired towards revolution (or just general mischief) by Fight Club?

the movie doesn't do the book justice

I just read the book and I have to say, Fincher didn't do all that great on the adaptation.  I watched the cut movie on Spike TV (they had to cut like an hours worth of content out of it) and thought the movie was pretty hardcore.  Then I saw the uncut movie on DVD and thought the movie was really hardcore.  Then I read the book and thought OMG!  This guy is effing insane!!  I gotta tell ya, the book is my favorite.  Sorry Dave.
