Page 107
///// The morning after we found her second lump [...] /////
In the film he finds no lump lump and in the book he says (page 106) ///// I want to tell Marla there's nothing for me to find. If she found anything this morning, it was a mistake. A birthmark. /////
So does she have lumps or not?

Page 106
///// Marla has the scar from Tylers kiss on the back of her hand /////
In the film she has no scar and is surprised about Jacks.
:Thinkingo

And Marla gets her meals from meals on wheels but her mom has the money for sucking up her fat and Marla collects the fat to use the collagen. Dunno if it's in the USA very different but both things aren't cheap here. And it seems as if Marla has not much money.

Think there was one more thing, but can't remember it actually (so it wasnt important i think xD ).

There's more differences between the book and the movie. The script is adapted from the book. "Based on the novel by Chuck Palanhiuk." Adaptation, clearly, and not the exact thing.

This changes a lot.

If Marla has really lumps theres a reason for her to visit the support groups, not just like in the film "It's cheaper than cinema and the coffee is for free".
Though she said in the book at first, she wanted to know about death, make a death experience, see really dying people. This would fit her statement in the film, but the lumps wouldn't fit.

so?

It sucked. I saw the movie first. It ruled. Then I read the book. I couldn't stop visualizing all of the scenes from the film when I read it. I felt trapped in the movie. Because of this, I felt I was largely unable to read the book with a loose, ambiguous imagination. That is what reading is all about for me. Then I reread it a second time. Better. Definitely better. The pacing of the book, the way the ideas are interspersed with one another, like a poem really, stood out to me. It was better the second time around for sure.

Invisible Monsters is still number one.

The movie was amazing in my opinion. Edward Norton blew me away with how well he played the role. One of Brad Pitts best movies, or at least I think so. However, the movie isn't any where near as great as the book. I've read it multiple times and it gets better every time. Chuck's style is original and mind blowing.

This is slightly off topic, but anyhoo...

I had to find some filler credit (I'm a double major -TV-Video Production & History- senior in college) so I found a film and lit class and frankly wasn't all to thrilled to take it,, god knows I didn't want to have to watch Citizen Kane, analyze, and write another paper about it. But then somthing miraculous happened, on the book list Fight Club was listed! So now I'm uber psyched for this class, where else am I going to get to re-read my favorite author, watch one of my favorite movies, and joyfully write a paper about it?

The thing that annoys me most about the movie isn't actually in the movie...

It's just on the case... where the Narrator is referred to as Jack.

I'd always thought the point was to have him nameless?

I know it's an adaption but it just bugs me that people call him Jack because of the 'I am Jack's.....etc.'

Hm.. am I crazy or taking this too far or does it bug anyone else?

Do you mean you wanted them to use Joe like in the book? They had to change it to Jack because they couldn't get the rights from reader's digest to use the actual articles.

anyways, he is nameless. i think most people just call him Jack to call him something instead of just Narrator.

I was watching the film the other day and something just jumped out at me. In the one scene in the police station, after the lead cop has taken his statement and walked out and the other guys are about to cut his balls off. Why does the lead cop knock on the door before coming back in? Nevermind why Jack doesnt yell for help right then. it's crazyness!

The book vs film debate rages on and on.........

Personally, I think they did a great job with the film. And all those little nit-pickety little things don't bother me. What I love most about the film is the way David Fincher captures the dark weirdness of it all and makes quite a surreal story very real indeed.

One thing though - and this is a little nit-pickety lol - is that they left out the part where Marla says she wants to have Tyler's abortion. I just think that line summed Marla up in such a way, really puts the finger on her as a person, and I think that Marla should have said it in the film. It's a pretty contaversial thing to say and it would no doubt upset a lot of people, but hey, that's Chuck all over right?
