SUMMER CD exchange...
Who wants to take part in the Summer Cult CD Exchange? So, nobody else is ramping up for this, so I'll start it. The winter exchange was marvelous fun, a cultural bonanza for all. Once we get enough people, we can randomize, trade addresses, etc. I've gotten all kinds o' neat crap I'm itchin' to share (and some music too). Who's in?
:headbang:
EDIT
I should also say that there are international members participating - so please state your willingness to ship overseas...
In so far...(I'll try to keep the active list up here...if you don't see your name, PM me)
excuse my ignorance, but could you explain the concept for me?
The exchange is simple, and as you can see from the rapid response, quite successful. You must first purchase a $500 Certificate of Deposit (CD) from your local bank and send it to me, Prince Joseph Mbutu.
OR...
It's actually just a bunch of culties making mixtape-style CDs and sending it to each other. Once everyone who wants in is in, we randomize and mach you up with another Cultie. You two exchange CDs that you make for each other. These can be entirely things you want them to hear from your stuff, or you can try to do sneaky research to find out stuff about them and style the CD that way. You can have a theme! Or no theme! You can decorate the CD with fancy labels! Or a sharpie! Or nothing! You can include little gift trinkets! Or none! If sending to me, you can send a $500 CD! Or $1000!
We'll see what kind of response this thread gets. There's usually about 20 or so people involved, and it's a great way to score free new music and expand your cultural horizons.

This was fun last time. I'm in again.
Anyone thinking that this sounds kinda-sorta-somewhat interesting and doesn't do it, will be sorry.
No one has the right to teach us stuff we don't want to learn. That's what our Bill of Constitution's all about.

I updated the names and stuck the thread. I'll try to help you keep the list in the first post updated, but I'm not around much for the next month. Smatazboy and Riddlegimp can edit it too if you want to PM them when you need to update.

This is getting huge!
Aut viam inveniam aut faciam
Well, I'm thinking of seeing how much steam we gather over the next week. If it's growing like crazy, we'll give it some extra time, but otherwise I was thinking of closing registration in like 2 weeks? If it seems absolutely dead by the end of this coming week, maybe I'll cut it off there.
Also, to those participating, I'm doing a lottery draw system. I'll assign each name a number, and then draw pairs. Also... since I've done other things like this through the cult before and neglected to mention it - please be serious about this if you're doing it. It's one thing if you delay, but it sucks if someone works har to get you something and gets nothing in return (however I'll have bonus prizes standing by if that's the case).
So if you say you're going to do it, DO IT!
I'm bad about procrastinating, making it into a project. But I always come through in the end, and I think I give good mix.
Like I said, delays are acceptable, especially if the music is good. But punking out is bad karma.

You know all too well about being a bitch and not coming through for someone, don't you? I know you were supposed to get something good for christmas, and I truely think LifeCafe got you good stuff, and it just didn't make it through the mail, but with online people, it's hard to tell if she just didn't buy anything at all.
I take her at her word. I'm thinking more of my lack International Monkey Growing Mania experiment updates...So many monkeys sent into the cosmos, and so few photos and experiments. But you can always count on McMuddle!
Aut viam inveniam aut faciam
Well, my record for delay is the CD I said I'd send to Metalfirecracker in January. I sent it in May.
But it was really good, and I did a lot of cool album art for it.
Then again, I did drive around with the finished, addressed package for like two weeks. Normally I get these things off in a month or so.

shit, I still haven't done mine! I feel horrible. You know, I'll do something really cool with it still. Don't worry.

As for closing out registration, we seem to be dwindling down. SO LISTEN UP OUT THERE, YOU LURKERS! You want in, get back to us by Sunday. If we get crazy amounts of response, I'll extend this until June 15th, but I think we definitely have enough to start rolling. So, this Sunday, on my plane ride back from Chicago, I shall match up names, and you shall know your prey. Then, the endeadening shall begin.
Those who are already in, when you get your partner's name, I'll leave it u to you to trade addresses. I will post a list on Friday of those I know are willing to do overseas stuff.

I'll get in on this... but international shipping may not work for me (I'm a broke college student). MixTapes are always fun to make. I have mainstream tastes mostly... so if you like a lot of Indie stuff you may not like my MixTape. :-D Count me in.

I need to go back and review this thread to see who's willing to go overseas...I'll mark those names with an asterisk later today.
