I e-mailed everyone on my contact list and asked them what their childhood fears were, even innapropriate people like business contacts, I figured what the fuck everyone has some. I got some good stuff. I like this assignment.

I have some childhood fears. One is strange, but true.

Lawnmowers. I don't know what's wrong with me. It's not because it's a somewhat hard chore to do as a kid when living in Florida, especially in the summers, but from the bad things I've heard about.

My grandfather had his leg ran over by a lawnmower. Son of Bitch went through hell and back shooting shit out of tanks in World War II, and he almost dies from a freaking John Deere.

Then my cousin. He was cutting the grass and his leg slipped through a bee's nest. Guy got his leg all stung up like a billion times and almost died.

Finally, when I lived with my stepmother, she told me tales of her genius father who worked with Einstein on the Manhattan project. The guy was so spaced-out at times, that he would stare up into the clouds while cutting the grass. Ran over all sorts of shit. Live shit.

So now when I'm trying to go to sleep at night, my thoughts somhow shift to lawnmowers, either by thinking of these people that have these lawnmower connections, or if I'm taking a nap and I hear a lawnmower going on a killing spree in my neighborhood.

The worst part, and I don't know how to connect this to anything, but the fear has reached my penis. I have this fucked up fear of a lawnmower chopping my dick off. WTF.

Whales. Deathly afraid since I was eight and visited the Museum of Natural History in NYC. My parents wanted to take me under that lifesize replica of the blue whale. No f'n way.....

Charles Manson.

In sixth grade, a bunch of kids in my class, we read Helter Skelter. For about a year, I'd look around at night to see if some homicidal freak was crawling through the house. Didn't matter that Manson was locked up. Didn't matter that The Family would have all been in their 40s and 50s and that breaking in and crawling around houses stabbing people with forks is a young psycho's game. Didn't even matter that we lived 1,000 miles from LA.

To this day, I'm not scared by horror movies or Steven King books. Not compared to the real shit that real people do.

Going up or down stairs with a dark area at the bottom.

Makes my skin crawl to this day and I don't bother trying to stop myself from looking over my shoulder.

Specifically, I used to live in my uncle's basement [it was an appartment, rather nice; I was barely ten yet] and the access to it was this set of stairs that turned sharply to the left at the very bottom, in to a door. You couldn't see through the door even if it was open on the way down and when the lights were off in there, not only the hair on the back of my neck would be standing straight up; if gravity weren't holding me down, I'd be plastered to the ceiling.

The feeling that something is there, just waiting for the perfect moment to...

Fucking hicks with their loaded Wal-mart shotguns and unchained pit-fighting pitbulls down the road scare me too. Sometimes, when it's dark and I'm feeling insecure, I'll bring my sword with me when I take the garbage to the road on garbage days. Those pitbulls cornered two girls in town one night not a couple weeks ago.

Mahayr's dad saw one on our back porch a couple months ago. As soon as he told me, I grabbed my sword and ran out to the road. Stood under the one street lamp we have.

Until it went out and my heart nearly stopped.

Stupid thing came back on the moment I stepped foot back on the front porch. Holy shit. Longest stretch of dark I had to run through in so long...

I thought some guy was under my bed scratching away with a knife, I always had to check. Its because this girl told me a story about an escaped mental patient who did this. I think its a pretty generic story.

Here's the stuff I've been getting from people; Shots, tornados, drowning, giant worms, vomiting....and blood.

I've got some great stuff compiled about childhood fears, I just don't know what to do with it. I'm having a harder time than I thought working out this assignment.

Everything I try writing comes out bland.

Is anyone else having trouble?

I just started writing out a childhood memory and thought i would intigrate some fears into it, but I haven't gone any farther with it. The stuff I've been getting from other people isn't all that interesting.

I like the assignment as well, although its tough, like the first one. CP seems to demand we reveal ourselves and that is never easy, at least not for me, and so I grieve over each word.

Remember, we have to write about our own childhood fears, even after the research. Ugh.

forgive me for just jumping in, I'm new, but I figure that I should just hit the ground running.

but

Forests and camping at night. I was on my first Girlscout camping trip when a local lady went missing. All the older kids were trying to scare us little ones by telling us she was murdered , choped into itty-bitty peices and feed to the fishes in the lake we swum in. no matter how many times my mother told me they were just being mean, I didn't beleive her. I'm still scared out of my mind to go to a camp site at night.

As a kid I had very little fear. I never was afraid of monsters or anything. I used to love the dark.

The older I get the more paranoid I get. It's great fun. Now I'm afraid that people will appear out of thin air to stab me in the back. Or step out of mirrors.

That's a childhood fear of mine that is still around...

...

* Balloons scared me to death, their epidermis resembling texture, and their frailty, the sound they made when they exploded… I can touch them now, but it took me sometime to do so.

* Also monkeys & apes, because of King Kong…

* Old ladies who grabbed my cheeks and smelled like a hospital at night

* Blonde boys (whom I adore now)

A cat that has its claws out and digging into your back. This happened to me when I was 7 and holding my friend's new cat. A stray dog came running up and scared the mess out of it. It just happened I was holding it and its claws went into and all over my back as the dog leap up and the cat cat fought back.

And then having my toe nails ripped off. This one comes from when a kid had a hammer fall on his foot and when his dad took his sock off to look at it the sock took 3 of his toe nails with it. You could see what lies under the dead and live part of a toe nail. Because of this I always tried to wear shoes.

I have a childhood fear of salad dressing

when i saw it and smelled it i would run to the bathroom and hide, and sometimes i would puke. Something about the smell of it and the way it looks when its poured on a salad it just always freaked me out.

I still wont touch it or look at it.

First off; even now I fucking hate bees; wasps, hornets. Fucking all of those stinging cunts.

When I was about eight, living in Maine, it was summer and my mom and dad decided to take us to this fancy place; right by the water, they had sunchairs to eat in. So we went down by the water, and there was a hedge nearby.
The girl came up to take our order, and a fucking hornet as big as my shoe crawled onto my foot. I screamed bloody hell; everyone looked, my parents hated me for it.

Also, I always had the unreasonable fear that an axe-murderer was going to climb up the side of my house (I was on the second floor), using suction-cup shoes; that I'd seen on Looney Toons. The lights in my neighbors house wood have to be on, certain ones too; or I'd stare out the window the entire night.

Tomatoes made me choke.

ok would it make you feel better if you watched the episode of myth busters when they find out those suction cup things suck and are nearly imposible to climb much of anything thats not glass without having a huge motor to create a strong enough vacum to hold a persons body weight.

I was always afriad of being downstairs by myself, as well. One time my sister left me for a few minutes and I kept staring at this plug in the wall, and I remember vividly it popping out of the wall and me running upstairs

I was always afraid of having dreams of the sea, being alone under water, with mutated fish trying to eat me. I cringe just writing this.

I also have a fear that at night ESPECIALLY when im alone im gonna turn a corner in my house and see a ghost walk past a hallway or see a ghost standing in my window.

The most scared a movie has EVER made me, was the part in "the sixth sense" when the kid with the shotgun hole in his head just randomly casually walked past the screen.

Officially from that point on my fear was born
