IMPORTANT: We Need Everyone To See CHOKE This Weekend!
Just like the news title says: We Need Everyone To See CHOKE This Weekend! If you planned on seeing it during the week, or even waiting to next weekend, or a couple weekends after that... don't.
We need you to see CHOKE this weekend. Now even. As soon as you're done with reading this, grab some friends, get your ticket, and head to the nearest theater showing it. (listings here)
The opening box office numbers for CHOKE might not mean much to you... but in the long-run, they'll mean a ton to the future life of other Chuck Palahniuk adaptations. 'Fight Club' was a box office failure, and did not make back, domestically, what it cost to make the film. As a result, we had to wait over eight years for our next Palahniuk adaptation.
So let's not let that happen again. Let's all make sure CHOKE hits a homerun this weekend. I'm sure that, with the Presidential Debate on last night, they took a hit in their Friday numbers. So let's make up for that today and tomorrow.
I know I'm talking to thousands of you here. And every one of you can make a difference. But it has to be THIS weekend.
Go see CHOKE now. Consider this a homework assignment from Chuck Palahniuk... the real Tyler Durden.

No can do. I don't have my car, but I am seeing it next friday night.
i will see it in 2 hours! yeah!
If a theatre in South Carolina screened it, Jane and I certainly would be there.
Perhaps, if you all make it a hit on opening weekend, they'll increase the number of theatres showing Choke around the country.
Please go and see it so Jane and I don't have to wait for it to come out on DVD.
done.
Just got back. 'Twas straight-up fantastic.
Dennis is telling it straight. Hollywood only speaks box office and box office estimates are all about the opening weekend. That means the turnout this weekend will determine how long we'll have to wait to make or even just see movies of "Survivor"...or "Invisible Monsters"...or "Rant." I know what I'm talking about, it took me seven long years to make Choke.
The safe word is poodle.

Just do it.
I found that to be more than creepy.
someone's gonna get flooded with PMs...
Bravo, Mr. Gregg! The movie was great.
I'll go and see it as soon as it's released over hear, which my sources tell me will be the end of October. Eagerly anticipating it.
Didn't you read what it said? THIS WEEKEND! If you have any kind of commitment to this site, you'll get your ass on a plane and watch this thing, stat!
Monkey, you're a genius! Why didn't I think of that earlier? Checking flight times, brb.
i'm going to see My Best friend's Girl. it's got that one dude in it!!!
Kate Hudson?
I don't care enough to drive to Dallas, thats for sure.
Sucks when the second largest city in the state doesn't get a movie. Distribution, what?
if everyone goes to see it this weekend maybe we can get Choke action figures made.
just got home from seeing it
hahahahahah! nice.
I'm there....just as soon as I finish my Nicholas Sparks collection:

Freal Melody, we live in the capital of South Carolina, and it's not playing here. Homeless.
I just saw the movie. Clark, it was awesome. Most of it was just as I pictured it while I was reading the book years ago. Thanks for making a great movie, I hope EVERYONE goes and sees it this weekend so more projects like this can be made.
saw it the first day it came out as soon as i woke up
was great
Iowa City got it...went to see it Friday....made me laugh, broke my heart!
Calgary got it!!! I saw it yesterday
haha isn't it kind of ironic for you guys to promote materialism? Or did no one here read fight club?
do you know what materialism is? No one's promoting it. they just went it to succeed so that we can see more chuck book's made into films. that's not materialism.
Ouch, doesn't look like choke even broke the top ten. From one source I'm looking at it took 14th with only $1,335,000. Pretty sad that it didn't even beat The Dark Knight in it's I think 11th week.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/
i think for this you gotta look at average per screen. it was only on about, what, 200 screens nationwide?
435
that's still paltry.
That's around 3,000 per screen, not too bad I think. If it can doesn't decline too much in the next weekend, it'll probably get a little bit wider release.
PER SCREEN, it beat Eagle Eye, this week's number one movie. Food for thought.
It didn't even come close to beating Eagle Eye per screen. It didn't even make half per screen. Eagle Eye made $29,200,000 in 3510 screens which is $8319 per screen. Choke made $1,335,000 in 435 screens which like you said is $3069. Food for math.
It would be a lot easier to see the movie this weekend if it was opening anywhere near me.
I mean, it doesn't come to Montana until October. And I'm still nowhere near where it comes out.
Hollywood needs to realize that people in Montana like to watch movies too.
I stand corrected, guess I looked at the wrong number on the chart while doing my maths. Although, for my money, watching Clark Gregg in shock during the farm scene beats Shia LePoof any day.
I did my part, saw it twice, and if I can find another group, I'm going again tonight! Every grouping looooooooved it, I'm working on bringing them into the bright bright world of Chuck!
So in the opening weekend, it recouped half the cost of making it. Is that good, bad, meh?
i'd say it good, not great. something else ya gotta figure is it being an R rated film, so that cuts out about half the audience that that other movie got.
I think where this thing is gonna make any real money will be when it comes on DVD.
ugh........... i hate this thread so much.
i saw it and loved it. maybe going to c it again
hah...... god *barf*
it's a NEWS TOPIC not a thread, duhhhhhh!
I saw it. It wasn't that good. Why did they turn that fantastic novel into a dry romance? The final scene with the making out through the credits was especially awkward. Also, the way they just...leave off with Denny and Cherry was pathetic. No crashing castle, no Denny getting ripped from lifting rocks, no reporters showing up with Victor trying to sabotage Denny (they just glazed over it). I kept feeling that there was a good movie there, but someone didn't know how to edit it. The lack of music through the majority of the movie definitely hurt it too. Maybe Fight Club spoiled me, but I was really expecting more from Chuck's best novel.
Not really. A lot of generic filler music with the occasional good song.
I thought the movie was awesome. I mean yeah, they skipped over a few.. several things, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The kept the focus, and since when do movies include every detail anyway? Though that'd be nice. Whatever.
And the music choice was great too. I got that Satan song stuck in my brain.
The bit of music they had was fine. They just weren't prolific enough with it.
I went Saturday, brought my fiance. We read Choke a few months ago, anticipating the film. The movie was absolutely hysterical! I expect to be back at least twice more (something I rarely do(in fact I've done this only twice before: for the original Matrix and Fight Club..can you say...6x!)). Get the F' to the theater everyone!
Sadly, the movie was not released in Thunder Bay this weekend, and I don't know if it ever will be. Knowing my luck, I'll probably have to wait until it comes out on DVD.......
Well it got number 14 in the box office numbers. I'm surprised The Dark Knight STILL beat it out this past weekend.
Hey Dennis ,
I went and saw it twice,I hope that put a dent in it.
