Also, here's an important note from his publishers:
“Here is the tour for PYGMY, Chuck’s new novel out on May 5. Like last year’s Snuff tour, pre-signed copies of PYGMY and Chuck’s backlist will be available at all events. Just a reminder: Chuck will personalize for the first 150 people in line only – contact the venues below for specific signing/ticketing details – and he will arrive 1 ½ hours early to begin pre-signing for those 150. In Baltimore there will not be a signing portion to the event.”
The Strand event will be ticketed -- $35 and that includes a signed PYGMY and 2 drinks – since it will be offsite at Webster Hall.

the boston link is broken, goes to Philly.
why does he need all these stipulations in regards to his book signings? what a primadonna, that guy. and he never comes to the south.
Thanks, theonekk,
Link fixed.
@ Big S
He needs those stipulations because he's only human and can't sign books for 500 people at a time anymore. Also, the stipulations are usually are from the bookstores. They can't keep their staff on overtime while he signs books for everyone.
There was one signing where his shoulder started to hurt so much someone held a bag of frozen peas on it while he continued signing books. Lets cut the guy a break!
Also, I'd like remind people that, there's very few authors that publish a book every year, and therefore do TWO tours (hardcover and paperback) for them... as well as usually a European tour. Not to mention, Chuck did a marketing tour to support the 'Choke' movie last year too. That's just insane.
thank you mirka. i wanted to make sure i got the contact info. for the bookstore so i could make sure to get in and hopefully get some stuff signed.
and on regards to above, i can't imagine signing so many books. Last summer in New York i know Chuck was there for a long time even though it was a ticketed event.
I would sooooooo love to just pop up at a random US Chuck event!
how does one book chuck?
Sure thing, theonekk. I see you're from MA, are you going to the Boston reading or the NY one, or both.
I don't get books signed at the readings any more. I'm sure Chuck is sick of me already, I've been to so many readings. I order signed books through St. Helens when I want to give out personalized copies as gifts That's totally NOT to say you shouldn't try to meet Chuck and get yours signed! I just feel like I've been very lucky and taken enough of his time. Also, most of my books are signed except a couple.
Zoth, one books Chuck by contacting his publicist or agent. Many book stores can't handle the crowds Chuck brings in any more. They have to rent spaces! That's why some readings require a paid ticket. (P.S. I owe you a PM, sorry, been very busy but know I luv you)
love me? ohhh baby!
it's all good i just figured you hated me and wished i was dead.
i'm going to see if i can get barnes or another big book place to book him, how would be the best way of doing this i wonder?
yeah i forgot he's on his yearly book thing. that must suck. but still, visit the south, we're not all incestual angry rednecks.
S, I believe he's been to Austin a few times and other southern places. (Also, thank you for the information)
Zoth, you talk to the special events coordinator at your local bookstore, convince him or her to try to get a Chuck reading and they will know how to arrange it if they are interested.
5 dates in 5 cities doesn't seem like much of a "tour."
the t-shirt is gonna look awful with that few on it.
i'll do it right now.
I am going to the one in Philly for sure. I have never been to a book signing before but it sounds like fun.
Are these the only dates and locations he's going to tour, or is it just the first leg? Hoping he'll come close to Denver.
Yeah, that's it, just five dates for this one.
Hopefully, there will be a more extensive paperback tour.
Nate, we thought the same thing, so we're holding off on the tour shirt this time. Again, maybe if he does an extended paperback tour, we can offer a Pygmy tour shirt at that time. I really love those.
EDIT: God, I would love to wear a shirt that says Pygmy on it being 6 feet tall. It would have to be that bright yellow, too.
crap, no chicago - ok kids, hit up st. helen's if he's not coming to your city

This is the best news I've heard in a while. I always miss his tours. I went to college very near where he did the workshop on his documentary, just one year too late. I was always at college when he came to Philly, home when he was in Ohio/Pittsburgh, then traveling with AmeriCorps last year... I may do Philly and DC just to make up for it!
Will more dates be added?!
Wow, effing perfect. I happen to be driving home from Florida and am stopping at a friend's place in Boston on the 4th. Couldn't work out any better...
nice, hes coming back to boston! kinda sucked that he didn't come to Boston for Snuff. Makes up for it ^^
Canada misses Chuck
But I made it down to Michigan last year and I will be at the New York one this year! It'd just be nice to see him after driving to a city less than 7 hours away
Hey Suzi,
If you are planning for NY, get your ticket as soon as possible. The first 150 people that purchase tickets will have the opportunity to say hello to Chuck and get their books signed. The Strand will email those 150 people closer to the date with details.
so NOT so.
<------is one!!
seriously, though..
tx and ar are both very red states. i dont see any barnes stores in central arkansas paying for a reading by one of my favorite authors. with what chuck writes about, i just dont see it happening.
but what chuck's doing for the workshop this year more than makes up for me not attending one of his signings. to express the least.
and i remember reading about the time a few people held a bag of frozen peas to his wrist while he was still signing away, so those fans wouldnt miss such an opportunity. chuck is a fucking badass.
i remember, many years ago limp bizkit (i'm not a fan, btw, and i know a good dozen people who would like to see fred durst choke underwater for a good minute or so) was scheduled to do a show and had to cancel because durst sprang an ankle. chuck woulda duct taped a toilet seat to his leg if he needed to
hahaha
..
I am really craving a Portland, OR tour. I went to the Rant one, and we showed up late because we got lost, and I wanted to go for Snuff, but there wasn't one, and now there isn't one for Pygmy either, hopefully he does one for his next book, or perhaps a paperback version of Pygmy or something. even though I'll probably end up buying the hardcover
hahahaha! So true, though.
Any idea yet if there will be a UK one and the dates. Or is it still too early to say? Thanks
I totally agree
Once again, I totally agree
stoked that he is coming to cambridge. literally right down the street!
what do you folk gauge as the right time to hit up a line for an unticketed event like this, if one wants to be in the first 150... ?
See ya there, Obe!
My friends and I were 3rd in line the last time Chuck was in Boston, and we got there about 2hrs early. I'm planning on the same, 2hrs-ish again.
Thanks mirka
I did buy my ticket earlier today, and the Strand website said they still had 331 in stock soooo i'm hoping that was accurate!
Just to make sure, The Boston reading is free? first come first served?
Yep, drucal. Boston is free.
New York is the only one you need to buy a ticket for in advance.
so let me get this straight.
the New York one is free and the Boston one you have to pay for?
Don't be mean, Nate. People get really excited, and confused.
Giggleloop, not sure about any foreign dates right now, but be sure to check back.
Ahahah! I thought you were calling Giggan "giggleloop," and I was going to high-five the reference. Awesome username, dude! My roommate just got me hooked on that show a week or so ago.
Sweet. Thanks for the info. I need to see who I can convince to wait in line with me...
One other question, though... 40 Brattle Street is actually the Brattle Theater, not the Harvard Bookstore... is this at the Harvard Coop, or the Harvard Bookstore further down Mass Ave that is not actually associated with Harvard University?
Click on the details link of the date you plan to attend, please. Most of your questions are answered there.
Not to single you out, Oberon, but it's posted right there:
Interview, Q&A, signing Offsite -- Brattle Theater
Call me out if you want, the info is still ambiguous:
Venue:
Harvard Bookstore
Date:
05/05/2009 6:00pm
Address:
40 Brattle Street, Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA 02138
Interview, Q&A, signing Offsite -- Brattle Theater
Store phone: 617-661-1515
It isnt immediately clear that the Harvard Bookstore is simply sponsoring the event which is held at the Bratte Theater, and the way the information is displayed implies that 40 Brattle Street is the address of the bookstore. So... yeah, the info is all there, it is just presented in a somewhat obtuse manner.
Yeah, I guess it should say Host for the Harvard bookstore. Or we can move the address to be under Brattle theater to be more clear. I guess we've been doing this so long, and are so familiar with off site venues that we aren't presenting the information as clearly as we could.
No doubt, the information is all there and correctly labeled. No fault to you folk, really. You provide accurate information before anyone else, and for that I am appreciative. And if I hadn't been so excited that he would be in Boston at the same time as me, and I took the time to read everything a bit more slowly it would have all been easily interpretable...
are there more dates coming, or has chuck decided five cities is it these days?
Never Texas.
Why?
and thanks Mirka, I'll keep my eyes and ears open
I think Chuck got kicked outta some place in Texas for the filth content of his stories.
^leaving Alaska. Oh wait, he's not going there either.
