'Sorry You Asked', Weekly Video Medical Q&A w/ Dr. Josh Bazell
UPDATE: New videos being shot this Friday, March 5th! So if you have a question, ask now! (In the comments section below)
Welcome to our weekly video column with author Dr. Josh Bazell! Ever had pressing and compelling medical questions you wanted to ask? Or perhaps you were just looking to debunk some medical misconceptions? Well then look no further. You've come to the right place. This is 'Sorry You Asked'!
Tune in to this column for updates on 'Sorry You Asked', a place where YOU ask the questions, and Josh does the answering (as long as his schedule permits). We have already posted the first three videos in the column on a new Features page.
Ep. 1 - "Do Cockroaches Really Get Stuck In People's Ears While They're Sleeping?"
Ep. 2 - "Is It True That A Man's Testicle Can Get Stuck In A Twisted Position?"
Ep. 3 - "Is It True That Getting Your Neck Adjusted By A Chiropractor Can Cause A Stroke?"
Josh Bazell has two personalities. The first, is as the author of Beat the Reaper, the stunning 2009 debut novel that garnered immense critical praise and is now being adapted by New Regency to star Leonardo DiCaprio. The other, is as the MD from Columbia who wrote Beat the Reaper while completing his internship! Here is where those two personalities collide.

This is cool. Plus, I just started this book yesterday!
Oh, I'm glad! I love that book, and I think it's so awesome that he's doing these. I laughed so hard when he answers the cockroach sleeping in ears question. His opening line is evil for...well..I don't want to spoil it.
This is incredible! Beat the Reaper was one of the BEST books I read last year! Most original buried gun in a long time.
I can't wait for more of this.
Hello, Dr Bazell, should you swing by.
We should ask him about Male Circumcision, one of the most hotly debated topics on the cult right now. Let him settle it for us!
I just started reading Beat The Reaper last week. It's damn good so far.
Watch the cockroach video!
I did... it falls into the category of things I wish I didn't know. Sort of like reading One Second After. (Which I highly recommend, but won't derail this topic to promote.)
But the cockroaches around here are mostly too big to squeeze into an ear canal. Which is a weird thing to find comforting.

Sorry! I know that was evil.
My sister who has young children wasn't amused, either.
Start a thread in the book Club forum about "One Second After" if you like. I've never heard of it.
Circumcisions are different, i tell ya. My gf is doing OB nursing right now and saw her first circumcision and almost cried because the numbing agent used on the baby wore off.
I saw my first circ. years ago oddly on the day my dog was neutered.
For some reason I remember it being oddly like if you were to peel the skin in a circular fashion from the dome of a potato.
But I could be wrong...it was years ago lol.
P.S. almost forgot that for the longest time I don't think they ever even used pain meds or numbing agents when doing circs back in the day. The idea was that infants were incapable of feeling pain or something like the putting an earthworm on a fishing hook logic.

You're freaking me out!
Am I wrong, but I thought you too are in some medical profession?
I asked him a question about a rumour that plagued our school when I was in high school about eye brow piercings make your face all strokey if it his a nerve. I'm gonna have to get this book, I've heard nothing but great things.
dude, i'd mail you my copy but i just sent it out to someone. it's brilliant though!
That's okay mate. I'll probably be heading to borders at some point in the next few days. I'll see if they have it there. If not, I'm due for a decent sized amazon order soon, so I'll get it then.
Thanks heaps though, man.
New to the site, but I've been reading Chuck for years and he is clearly my favorite author. I noticed this on the main page and I had to register so I could post about Beat The Reaper. I read this book on vacation and it was incredibly entertaining. I was at a resort in Belize and I was even refusing an extra couple drinks at the bar to get back to my room and finish my reading. I highly recommend it and I look forward to Bazell's next work.
Wow, welcome! I'm so pleased that you registered to comment on 'Beat the Reaper'. I'm on a mission with that book. It really is so damn good. I love that Bazell offered this video series/column to us. He's hilarious. I, too, can't wait for the next one. It's a sequel, and that makes me VERY happy because I'm quite attached to Pietro Brnwa.
i cant wait for that sequel either! squeeee!
also, i was doing some design research and stumbling through book covers for inspiration and found this:
it's BEAUTIFUL. i may have to order it to put up on my inspiration wall.

Is that a book cover, Berto? Or a poster? Also, link, please. I want it too!
its the new UK book cover, published just a few days ago.
also, i discovered a site, book depository that sells books with free shipping anywhere, even internationally. their prices on almost everything are below amazon or bn.com, even factoring out the free shipping. i googled and found a lifehacker article on them, so they're legit.
this site is going to break me.
this is the first book i've found where it's cheaper on amazon (uk). ha. irony.

Oh, noooooooooooo. I'm feeling so very greedy right now. I want a lot of different covers of books that I already have..
however, i just went to put in an order at amazon.co.uk, and shipping on the one book is 7 pound sterling. takes the total up to $25 bucks. bookdepository wins!
