Just got back from the reading, and it was awesome. Seriously one of the coolest things I have ever been to. Thanks for the blow up doll, Chuck.
it was amazing, awesome, I laughed loudly, I cried well, I cried when no one was looking :x perfect reading! thanks for everything and especially the hug when I started babbling when I was talking to you :)
The night was great! Everyone had a wonderful time. It was funny, and naughty and all those great things. Thanks again Chuck for making all the readings and signings so special!

Wish i could of seen more of the interview (i was off to the side, camera was in my way)
In all it was a grand experience.
Monday night was amazing...I'm from Ohio and I got there at 7am to sit in line so I could be the first 150 to get a wristband so I could meet Chuck. It was completely awesome that Chuck had signed all of his back titles and they were available for purchase...The Q&A/reading/trailer/contests/giveaways were AMAZING I loved the inteviewer and got some pictures so I will be sending those soon....I got numerous autographs and it was awesome I even got to ask a question at the Q&A and take a pic with him...so a good time it was
One of my favourite nights in recent memory.
Beautiful readings by both Chuck & Donald Ray Pollock.
I knew it would be a great night but wasnt aware how memorable it would be. Truly one for the ages.
Got to enjoy Opening night of the Snuff Tour at Borders Books in Ann Arbor on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for myself, I didn't realize until too late that I had to buy a book in order to get a bracelet to hear Chuck speak. Only the first 150 people got to then, get their books personalized and photo ops and such. I missed that part but did get there in time to hear Chuck. There was a good 300 people in the upstairs area, along with 4 DVC Pro Cameras including the one I was standing behind on a dolly. I assume this will be cut for Borders website? There was probably another 50 people waiting downstairs just to try and get an opportunity to see Chuck.
They started with Chuck introducing Don Pollock who read a quick short story from his new book. I don't know if it was just me or what but I wasn't too impressed with Don's story. Perhaps I was just too excited to hear Chuck talk. So when Chuck came back and in the name of 'Snuff' started tossing out deflated blow up dolls - guy dolls and girl dolls. A short contest before Chuck did a reading of his short story called Loser. A hiliarious story about being a contestant on the Price Is Right told in a funny way that only Chuck can. Then it was on to the interview segment of the evening. Which hopefully we will find out as the days go on what the cameras were actually recording for. There was a nice trailer of Choke and a scene from the movie as well. Happy to say that it looks like it will be right up the alley of Chuck fans everywhere. Then there was a Q&A with the audience where I believe it was Samanatha (from Ohio) asked the most disturbing question of the evening. Wondering if Chuck had to do any research on how a Woman would live without a jaw. She was going to write Mythbuster and find out for all of us. ha ... thanks Samantha. Just a great experience overall and just keep an eye out for that Borders video.
What an unforgettable night! Great job, Chuck. :) And I'm not even mad that you didn't give me an autograph hound- it only would have been devoured by my pug. :)
I honestly can't believe what a great time I had coming to this event on Tuesday!! I saw Chuck last year in Toronto, on his Rant tour, which was fun because I was one of the wedding-dress-wearers and that ended up scoring me a gift from him later in the year. So this year I was understandably disappointed to see he wasn't coming to Canada at all (I live in Ontario). I googled Ann Arbor and decided it wasn't an unreasonablely long roadtrip, then packed up blankets and my best friend and drove the 5hrs to Michigan. We got there at midnight, at which point there were 2 very nice and funny and friendly people 'lined up' (if you can call 2 a line?) and we chatted with them for a bit before camping out on the sidewalk. It was kinda neat watching the line grow and grow til it was around the corner. And then I was the first one in the store somehow at 9am when they opened, and the first to get to the register to buy my copy of Snuff, not that it was officially a race or anything hahah. At the actual event, Chuck noticed that I was wearing the necklace he'd made for me, so I got a boy blow-up doll, and ended up getting an autograph dog later too, as I'm apparently just super lucky. His short story, Loser, was wonderfully written and read, and Don Pollock's story was fantastic too, although completely different in style. I thought Don's story was an appropriate opening to the night. Also, the guy who interviewed Chuck was really funny and he added greatly to my enjoyment of the night. From the trailer/scene clip, Choke-the-movie looks like it's been produced to perfection, can't wait to see the whole thing!
After waiting in the 150-people-with-yellow-wristbands line forEVER, finally got to talk to Chuck while he signed my books, and I finally got to find out about his interactions with his editor, which is something I've wondered about for years now as I am an aspiring book editor. My friend was right after me in the book-signing line, and she's the one who was crying like crazy, if anyone happened to notice...? (I was the one hiding behind a nearby bookshelf lest I be associated with her, heheh)
(kidding!)
Q&A seemed kinda short I thought... and that question about the shot-off jaw, that was amusing.
I'm surprised to see that not many people have posted on this yet, hopefully more to come?
I showed up at 11:30 p.m. on Monday night to get in line for this event. It turned out to be a little early, but I wasn't going to take any chances when I heard the first 150 people got to meet Chuck. I have been a huge fan for years, but have never met him. My friend Ron and I waited all night for wristbands and even though we didn't get any sleep we had a blast. We met two very charming girls from Canada, a wonderful couple from Chicago, and some very nice local people that made the night fun. We even met a local man, named Moe, who sold us Father's day cards. (Thanks Will for using your phone)
The event was more than I could have hoped for. The readings were incredible and Chuck and Don's answers in the Q&A were interesting and entertaining. When we finally got to meet Chuck I realized what was taking so long. Chuck isn't one of these guys that just signs his name and ushers you out. He talked to us, signed all our books, shook our hands, and he even was concerned about my lack of sleep. He asked how far I had to drive home and then offered me his coffee and told me to be careful. I am blown away by how much he cares for his fans and I can't wait to meet him again. Thanks to Chuck, Don and Borders. Thanks to Suzi for finding my shades.
hahah I'm glad I could help reunite your eyes with their sun protection :)
