Big news hit the net yesterday, which I missed because I was sitting in Jury Duty selection from 8am on. It seems HAUNTED is now on the fast-track to become Chuck Palahniuk's next movie adaptation. Variety reported that the option was acquired by Brian Levy, who has launched a management and production company called New School Media. 'Haunted' will be their first project.
The writer and director is going to Belgium filmmaker Koen Mortier (pictured below). Mortier already has a building filmography listed on the IMDB, but is most noted for his last film 'Ex-Drummer'. Koen is on board to write and direct the adaptation.
As a fan of most European film, I'm personally excited by this news. Koen is a filmmaker not saturated by Hollywood. An outsider. And with 'Haunted' being such a tough adaptation, it will be interesting to see someone that might have a very unique and fresh approach to the material.
What do you all think? Sound off.
I discussed this movie idea with my roommate and i figured it wouldnt work because of the extensiveness of the individual stories, truth be told i'm almost finished and i'm already in love with Haunted. so, we decided that it would be more fit to be syndicated as an HBO or Cinemax mini-series, with all the full out horror and dark humor....
I'd much rather see Survivor or Invisible Monsters be made into films, but I can deal with a Haunted adaptation. I'm still a bit wary of whether it can be made into a coherent film.
My thoughts exactly! Because of the depth and long character studies I feel as though a lot will be lost or cut to fit in a film. An HBO mini series would be awesome! Every week be introduced to each characters story and truly lay the story out in its entire form.
Uh, so it's now 2011... what's going on? have i just missed this, has it been made already, or did they realise that it just wouldn't work as a film?
I want to be wrong, i want to see Haunted as a film and i want it to blow my tiny mind, but.... am dubious.
In my humble opinion, the only films that surpass the books they were based on are Fight Club and Apocalypse Now.

From the first page of this book I knew it should be a movie, would love to see the casting though.

I must confess I've never even heard of this guy before.
But let's hope he makes a good job.
I'll check it.

HURRY UP AND MAKE THE MOVIE ALREADY, DAMN!
IM SO FREAKIN EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!!
I agree. I dont even think its possible to make a book like Haunted into a film.
I couldn't be more excited. Haunted is my favorite Chuck book. I'm dying to see Commander Snarky and Lady Baglady. And, of course, Guts.
Gah. Cannot wait.

This should be interesting. c:
