EVENT: Chuck Palahniuk Appearing At The San Francisco Cacophony Society's 'Creating Culture from Mayhem'
Tickets are now on sale for an exciting Chuck Palahniuk event hosted by INFORUM. As part of the celebration, Chuck will be appearing and speaking on his history with The Cacophony Society.
Ever wonder how Chuck Palahniuk came up with the idea for Fight Club’s secret society of recreational fighters? Or how a giant wooden “man” ended up on fire in the desert, inspiring one of the world’s most radical gatherings? Welcome to the Cacophony Society, an underground group of pranksters whose culture-jamming antics have helped shape the contemporary zeitgeist for the past three decades. Now, from flash mobs and SantaCon to groups like Improv Everywhere and the Yes Men, new generations of instigators are taking a page out of the Cacophony book, driving pranks and events with social media tools.
While not exactly part of the Doomed tour, this upcoming event is Chuck's only California appearance this fall. So pay attention!
- When: Monday, September 23rd from 7:30p to 9p.
Where: The Castro Theater (429 Castro Street, San Francisco, CA 94114)
- The event is hosted by INFORUM at The Commonwealth Club
- You can purchase tickets here - http://chuckatcacophonysf-es2.eventbrite.com/?rank=2
More details on Chuck's involvement in the event from INFORUM:
First, Chuck will make an appearance at the pre-reception which goes from 6:30-7:30.
Then, Chuck will be speaking on-stage as a member of the Cacophony Society, along with John Law and Carrie Galbraith, moderated by Brad Wieners. As you might know, they just released Tales of the San Francisco Cacophony Society—Chuck wrote the forward to the book. They’ll be talking about creating culture from mayhem as seen through the lens of San Francisco, for an hour long conversation. The last 15 minutes of the hour is a Q&A via written questions. He won’t be doing a reading of any sort.
Afterwards, Chuck will participate in the signing of the Cacophony books—his own books aren’t for sale.
