Chuck Palahniuk's 1 Hour Speech at the Grub Street Writer's Conference
Somehow, this video got past us. It's a one hour speech Chuck gave at Grub Street's writer's conference last May of 2010. This was a non-public event that actually kicked off Chuck's Tell-All tour that year.
Props to our own Mark Vanderpool for finding this one on Vimeo.

Such a great speech. I would chop off my arm for Chuck's public speaking skills. When it cuts back to the crowd you can see he literally had jaws on the floor.
I was there for that speech (I was the one who asked the short story question). The entire ballroom was truly stunned by his laconic eloquence, and we talked about it the rest of the conference.
Hey, thanks to Perlman for sending me the link! I passed it on to Dennis without giving you proper credit.
You're right. It is one hell of a talk.
some pretty heartless publicists it seems...
"That's why your kitchens aren't done."
That made me laugh.
He does seem a very good public speaker.
CHUCK,
Thank You.

Speaking of heartless, I know this is somehwat off topic, but I was recently listening to an audio interview with Trent Reznor, speaking to the attention he was getting for the Social Network score, and so he's answering a question, mentions how his Mom died just a few days before? (Could be wrong but I do believe it was his mother) -but he even flat out says it was an unexpected death, and the interviewer, unless it's cut, laughs about something else that Reznor had mentioned during the answer, and moves on to the next question like nothing was said.
Maybe it's me and I"m ignorant to interview etiquette or protocol or whatever, and maybe that's the right way to do it, not say anything, but it just sounded awfully cold and heartless like the guy didn't care. Granted, they don't know each other, but still.
That's what Palahniuk's speech reminded me of when he talks about the publicists. Makes them sound like an ice cold breed.
This is awesome. Chuck is such an incredible public speaker. I'm really looking forward to the DAMNED book tour!
