hahaha, wow.

Awesome.

I pray to God that the big twist in the book isn't that assie turns out to be a husky dude in drag. That would suck.

EDIT:

Why did he choose to do the promo this way? This does nothign to sell the book. The interview is played straight and serious, which would lead the casual observer (who doesn't know any details about the book) to think it's about a big hairy drag queen who has somehow fooled the world into thinking he's the most beautiful woman? This whole setup just doesn't seem like Chuck at all. Why not go for realism? Why not make it look like he's actually interviewing some broken down old porn queen? Or, if you're going to do the drag thing, why not make it... I don't know, funny? Maybe I'm just tired and grumpy because I'm moving right now, but this video just missed for me. I still want to read the book.

Wow, that ad was ridiculously stupid. I'm hoping parts two and three get me more interested in the book. At first, the horned up, sex addict that I am, I was excited about this book....Now, literally at this vey moment in time, I think my penis just crawled into my asshole.

I havent bothered to watch it yet because i thought this too from the look of it there. Is it really just some drag queen in the video?

Yes but I thought it was funny. Sounds like it sets up the book nicely. I cannot wait for it to arrive!

monkeywright

How is it funny? The drag queen locks herself out of her house...it looks like humor could poitentially follow...and then there's a by-the-numbers interview that lays out the basic plot of the book, played straight, no laugh lines. I mean, to me, you get some used-up looking retired porn star, you set it up like  adead serious interview, and you get people wondering what the hell the books about - is it fiction? Non-fiction?

This video does nothing for the book. If there's more to come, I would hope it plays on some of the dark humor of the book, or I hope it gets grittier

Monkeywright, relax.  It's only the first one.  There's gonna be tons of these to follow.

I know, I know. I'm sorry. Tax Time + Moving + a whole lotta other streesful shit has me extra grumpy lately.

As stated above, I'm hoping for better, and I'm positive that the book (which is all that really matters) will kick ass.

All I have to say about this video is:  What the hell....?

It's possible that the interview was created for an audience that doesn't already know so much about the book like we Culties do. Look at it from the perspective of an uninformed browser. In that case, I think the clip does enough to generate some interest.

yeah, that was pretty horrible.

they might as well went all out and had the guy with a thick brooklyn accent and a stubby cigar hangin out of his mouth.

You know i think i saw on youporn.com that some chick actually had sex with 500 - 600 guys. If you are that curious just type in 'Dando Pra 620' in the search.

oh plz cynics is this how you would treat the Princess Brandy Alexander...I think not!  So leave your issues at the door and step into Chucks world with eager eyes.

nathaniel parker

That is NOT the Princess brandy Alexander!

and, yeah, i think Huston did 600 guys as well.

Gangbang world record attempts were pretty common place back inthe 90s. Most of the time, controversy abounds surrounding the fact that these ladies don't have 600 unique partners, rather a smaller group of men who get seconds and thirds and wear different wacky masks each time to disguise their identity.

Also (not to belabor this point, but...)

...see above comments about drag queen/wacky humor/actual subject and tone of novel...etc. They'll read the book, and if it doesn't center around said drag queen, either be confused, disappointed, relieved, etc.

I enjoyed that :)

especially after already reading it, I thought it was cute and did carry the tone of the book

I have a feeling Chuck wouldn't really make something that was decidedly not for us Culties.  It obviously wasn't intended to be true-to-life (or to novel, I guess technically), just to raise some hype.  I thought it was cute... c'mon, the shot of Chuck pouring champagne for the drag queen didn't make you laugh a little?

it was a good fun idea just bad execution.

They shoulda went all out and got kathleen turner to do it, since chuck's said that's who he had in mind anyways. or even like monkeywright said, some dried up retired porn star and played the whole thing completely straight.

That's just a bad image for people to see and start building their idea of who the character is before they start reading the book.

I'm suprised about the negative reaction to this video. I thought it was brilliant. It was funny as fuck for me.

it just struck me why I don't like this. It seems like a Madtv parody of what the real interview/promo would have been. And I hate Madtv.

i agree.  i thought it was brilliant.  did take me half a day to digest, though.  but, flawless execution.  the ever serious and endearing chuck interview and this.. dude, blatant and in an ugly dress.  locks herself outta her house.  perhaps in a near future one she'll be picking for snacks outta the trashcan, or picking her nose and then asking the interviewer for tissue.  this humor can really go places..

nathaniel parker

Does the character come across like that in the book though?

Far and away the most appalling aspect of the piece was the grocery store fodder they were drinking.
