I wonder if this one will end up being a more popular tattoo than the Invisible Monsters cover?
It is very tattooable. I guess it depends on whether the book is any good or not, as Invisible Monsters is pretty much the cult favourite among Chuck's culties.
If the book ends up as good as Invisible Monsters it just might be. I do love the style though.
I kind of wish the design was slightly different though. Like, it should look more like a biker patch, because that's basically what it looks like. By that I mean, all three sections should be separate entities, not flowing together like they do. So, the "damned" and "Chuck" badges would be separate, slightly more curved, and the devil would be in the middle patch, like the logo. I just think it would work better.
Kinda reminds me of old Freak Show/Circus posters, as well as traditional tattoo styles.. but there's just something off about it. A little too cartoony, I think.
It is a young adult book, so maybe Cartoony works?
Is it YA though, or is it just narrated by a young girl? Surely there's a difference.
I mean, the majority of YA novels centre around an adolescent protaganist, and Damned certainly seems like it's going to be dealing with YA themes. Even Pygmy was YA-ish, despite the broken-English syntax, which even found some adults finding it hard to decipher.
What ever it turns out to be, I hope it's badass.
Not a fan of the cover.
I didn't like it - not that I care much about cover art on books though.
And that's some really girly lips on Big Red.
He's probably a fag too.
like a cigarette ?
It's an awesome cover; possibly my favorite of all Chuck's novels; too bad I don't buy paper-bound books anymore.
Eh, not a fan of this tattoo flash-art style. Would have much rather seen something in dark watercolor. Something complex and truly artistic like the cover of Rant or the symbology of Lullaby. Although both Pygmy and Snuff followed this simplistic, solid color aesthetic. So I'm sure the marketing department is trying to maintain consistency.
Not impressed.
Usually, CP's books have some very original/clever design that hints at the plot... but maybe this cover tested well and will draw more attention and thus more sales.
But a Satan face is far from original.
original or not, it's definitely guaranteed to catch attention. I'd pick this book up, just for that nostalgic biker satan shady feel. you know? sort of makes me think of snake oil salesmen for some reason.
Watch, once the book is read the cover will make perfect sense and just fit perfectly.
We oughta start a thread for everyone that doesn't like this cover to submit their ideas.
Doesn't have to be some professionally designed thing or anything, it could just be a couple lines and dots or stick figures to get the concept across.
I'm with Greg, I dig it for the whole shady biker feel. Though, I wished it looked more like that, as per what I said previously. But, I love Biker culture and tattoos, so this is probably my favourite of his, covers-wise.
It's got a Tijuana Bible type vibe to it.
I'm with Kit in that it's a circus show poster.
Go to The Cult's Facebook page and see all the positive reactions/feedback it got for this post.
I think it's only us pretentious website posting snobs that don't like it as much.
Interesting...
I actually dig it. I just wish it looked better. So, I like the idea. I just think it should look more like a bikie gang-patch.
just from counting people's votes in here it looks like it's 5-4 in favor of the cover. that's a pretty good ratio.
I put my opinion in the other thread. It stated that I think its god awful.
I do like how the devil has that apathetic look on his face lol Not to mention the french mustache.
that moustache is like if John Waters moustache had a baby with Rollie Fingers moustache!
that devil actually looks a fair bit like Waters, really
The cover should be some teabag nuts over his last book.
