Dress Up For The 'Pygmy Tour And Receive Prizes From Chuck!
Chuck has a personal request for you all today, about the upcoming 'Pygmy' tour.
Notice Regarding the 2009 Book Tour for Pygmy:
Wear a Costume, Get a Prize. At this spring’s book events for Pygmy, I’ll be looking for people who attend wearing the native costumes of Model United Nation delegates. Yeah, just like the scene in Chapter Thirteen of the new book. If you have a kilt – wear it. Or, wear a kimono, a toga, dashiki, lederhosen, sarong, sari, grass skirt, burka… you get the idea. Don’t let good taste or political correctness limit you. I’ll reward the first fifty costumed delegates with prizes. I’m still grateful to everyone who attended the Rant book events dressed as brides; you helped to make those evenings so much more spectacular. So, if you have Cossack costumes, French mime costumes, Basque shepherd gear, Mexican serapes, American cowboy stuff – wear it, and win. Again, the first fifty at each event get the goodies. Don’t let your dignity stop you from having a good time, and I won’t feel like such a freak, myself.
Thank You,
Chuck Palahniuk

IF he is anywhere within 400 mlies of me I will turn up as a Leprechaun.
i'm not considering dressing up. i'm down for that kind of thing usually, but seeing as i have NO idea what the book is even about yet, and will be receiving my copy AT the reading i can't see myself blindly costuming up. In the future if there is some time between the release and the reading i would be much more likely to join the festivity...
all of which is quite unfortunate because i know exactly where i could borrow a real dope kilt
i am SO DOWN for dressing up! it was so much fun being a Rant bride
I'm dressing up.....who's going to NYC?
After intense studying in Tuam, I have decided to wear a track suit and dingy jacket and come dressed as a Pikey.
Heh. "Pikey".
Go all out and be a Chav.
I'll be there, I plan on dressing up too. How early do you fancy people will get there to be one of the first 50 though? I'd hate to be on the train all dressed up at an exaggerated time like noon! =D
it could be just like the end of Trading Places.
me and 2 of my droogies will be in NYC
Oh man, I'm working on dressing up for NYC too. Hopefully my outfit works out...
I'm thinking I'm not going to where my outfit on the train, I'll find a starbucks or change in the bathroom of the hall, just get there early enough.
anyone going to the Philadelphia book reading??
I'm going to the Philadelphia reading, planning on getting there at 4:00. I hope I'm not underestimating...
I'm thinking an elf (North Pole) or a pirate (Somalia), just because they would be easy changes on the train. Stupid?
Dammit, my dishiki's at home/inaccessable!
I'll see what I can do.
Go thrifting, Garret. There's always costume worthy stuff at the second hand store. I've found I can even buy things for $1 on special.
I was gonna, then realized I didn't even need to. I found costume worthy stuff in my apt! I's ready!
If you own a garish cowboy hat or a shirt that says "Property of Jesus", be sure to dig it out of the closet.
knowing my luck, Im just picturing this was all a joke and I'm that asshole who actually shows up in costume...."What, you didn't get that memo?"
That's how I felt I'd feel with the wedding dress Rant thing...which is why I passed on the idea in Boston but gave in for the Monch event. It was actually fun.
Also, since I was meeting Chuck for the first time, I didn't want a picture with him of me in a wedding dress to be 'the' picture of me and Chuck.
so the children would ask "is that my daddy? is that your wedding night?"
Ironically, I forgot to get a pic with Chuck in Monch, wearing the dress. Even though we were at the end of the line and got to talk to him as a group for like 5 mins, totally slipped my mind.
For the NYC reading..I have a question. If you're one of the first 50 people to show up in costume, but you DON'T have a "VIP" ticket to meet Chuck, would you still get to meet him? This is all new to me because back in the day Chuck used to stay for hours after his readings to sign everyone's books. I understand he can't do this anymore, but I am still kicking myself for not buying my ticket fast enough.
Anyone have any inkling to what will happen to the first 50 in costume? It'll be added incentive for me to do it if I get to talk to Chuck.
