David Fincher Tribute

David Fincher on the set of 'Fight Club'

On bringing Fight Club to the screen

For David Fincher, Fight Club has been a labor of love that began as soon as he read the book one night, in one sitting. He soon made it his mission to become the director that would adapt this brilliant novel into a film. It took just that one sitting to convince David that Fight Club had the potential to become a cult classic and that he was the one that would breath life into it.

Fincher would soon discover that the rights to the novel had already been purchased by 20th Century Fox. This did not bode well as David had been left with a bad taste in his mouth ever since working on Alien 3 with Fox. But Fight Club's call was too strong and Fincher, after trying to bid on the Fight Club rights himself, was soon meeting with Fox executive Laura Ziskin. Luckily, Ziskin shared Fincher's enthusiasm for the novel and was quick to listen to his ideas. These ideas ranged from doing Fight Club as an "anarchist cookbook" version on video for only 3 million or, fuck it, spending about 70 million and going all for it. Plane crash, big actors, explosions and...well, David Fincher got his way and Fight Club was soon underway.

From his various interviews, David speaks highly of his experience in working on Fight Club. He talks about like it his baby. He doesn't care if people don't get the humor in it. It's there....and HE gets it. Any fan of the book, including Chuck Palahniuk himself will tell you how good an adaptation the movie is. In fact over 20 pages were taken as verbatim from the novel.

This section is here to play homage to David Fincher for, besides being one of my favorite directors, he is somewhat hard to find information on. He does very few interviews and doesn't get photographed that much. Yet his talent is so great that we'd be fools not to praise him. So here is his altar.
