“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin
I like it too. Definitely better than the last bunch. Not a good sign to see they've pushed it back even more but maybe they're trying to cash in on all that Halloween money?
if i had to make a guess why it isnt in chuck's traditional may/june timeslot, that would be what i would go with. could be also that the publishing industry is trying to cash in on foul weather, since that seems to be when people do the most reading

"Buy Damned! It makes a Helluva Christmas present! "
Yeah, I'm with you, man. I dig the old-school-ness of it. Looks cool. Much better than the last few.
I think the Pygmy cover was probably better than the actual book inside of it.

Hard to be worse than the Tell-All cover. Letters? That's it?
I did kind of like the Tell-all cover. The simplicity. And the font was pretty cool. Still haven't read it though. And although I'm digging the Damned artwork, I can't help but feel like there's something very juvenile about it. But, I guess, it is from an 11 year-old's perspective. YA anyone?

Wasn't the Tell All cover supposed to look like a ransom note?
I like the cover, and I agree it's much better than the last few. I think the Devil looks a little juvenile but the antiquated look of everything else is good. I hope the paperback edition will have one of those textured covers instead of it being sleek.
Oh man, I love the textured, pulpy covers. Slicks suck.
Does chuck employ several graphic designers for his books or does he have a go-to-guy? I'd be interested in knowing his/their names.
im not sure chuck gets a lot of input on this. he might get a set of several images from a doubleday designer, and he might not. but its not like he has these things personally mocked up.

I'm sure he's a big enough author that he gets a say in what the covers look like, but yeah it could just be an in-house designer at the publishing company.
the authors i have met, that have say, get a set of say four images which might be similar, and might not, and they can pick which one they like, but that is about it.

Egads, I think its awful. From an artists perspective if has some pretty serious design flaws.
Chuck, how many best-selling authors do you know?
Caleb, I bet I have actually read that book, but it is highly unlikely that I will read this one.

Awesome release date--Happy Birthday to ME!
Rodrigo Corral has done his covers for at least the last 10 years. Though I'm not certain I imagine he did Damned too.

You're not going to read it specifically because you don't like the cover?

No, I'm not going to read it because I quit after Snuff. I'm over it.

but rant and pygmy were great reads

I didn't like Rant. And I never even considered reading Pygmy.

See, I wasn't that into Rant either. It was okay, and definitely much better than Haunted, Snuff, and Pygmy, but yeah, still not his best work.
Do you plan to read Damned?

Umm, I haven't read Tell-all yet. But, in saying that, Damned seems a bit more interesting. I'll probably read the first chapter when it gets leaked and see how I feel.
Ha. I completely forgot about Tell-all

This book looks damned stupid. A child burning in Hell? So what? Children are dumb.
Think I just drooled while reading the blurb. I am also curious to how Madison overdoses on the herb. I am irresolute (its my word of the day, hooray!) in that I know about it and whelmed with excitement, as well as sad that I have to wait for it to be released.

New words are great.
This is why we can't have nice things.

I just bought the book "damned" off the shelves in Singapore. Did i just get my hands on it before release date??!!
Any idea or news on when the paperback edition will release for Damned?

It's not a great cover, but then I don't think Chuck's books ever have great covers really. There's a popular phrase that applies though.
Nice to have the release date. Shame it's so late in the year. I want to read the book now.
