before reading...
Hi Everyone!
So, haven't even bought "Tell-all" yet, but well... I'm not an American and I don't know much about golden age Hollywood actors, so I would be grateful if you could list me persons and movies I should know before reading the novel.
Thank you in advance!
most of the names and movies are made up. they bear some similarity to a person, or movie, but your knowing (or in your case not knowing) wont add, or take away very much.

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin
Thank you guys.
Good to know. Here in Germany the book won't be published until October this year (!) and I wondered if my missing knowledge of golden age Hollywood actors would spoil the experience, too. Thank you.
I recognized a lot of the names. I doubt most of them are made up.

I think if you've seen "Sunset Boulevard" or other old film about Old Hollywood, it could certainly add to the experience, if only to give you some idea of the tropes involved, but I doubt it's really necessary.
This is why we can't have nice things.
And, really, you can't go wrong watching "Sunset Boulevard" anyway.

really?
i got the impression that the names were one offs and sound alikes. there's probably some real ones though, considering chuck's two truths/one lie ratio. my point is, whether they were real or not, didnt matter much
