So is Rant gonna be a true trilogy or what?
The first time I read that Rant would be made into a movie, the news article (or whatever it was) said that the movie studios wanted to buy the rights, but were waiting on Chuck to finish the trilogy to see the complete work before getting into it.
Now from what I've heard, the movie rights are already bought.
I don't know if the trilogy part came from the misconception about his "trilogies", or if in fact, Rant is gonna be a true trilogy in the sense of a continuous (somewhat) story? When years ago, CP was talking about Diary coming out, he said that it would be part of a horror trilogy, but he meant trilogy in the sense of 'theme', not of story continuity.
So if Rant (the book) is part of a sci-fi trilogy, is it only a theme trilogy, or an actual continuity?
Fuck Laura Miller, and I don't mean literally.
At the Choke thing he did for Apple, where he appeared with the dude who directed choke and answered questions. (At the new York city apple store) Someone had asked him basically what's up with Rant being a trilogy.
Chuck paused and said, "Well," loonger pause, "Don't hold your breath."
I've read somewhere that the second book was supposed to be about the Historians and their story and stuff -- But i dunno... This is as much info I got from the Rant trilogy situation
Rant was confusing enough as it is... If he made another one I can see it being hard to follow.

Rant was confusing enough on its own but I can see a follow up. I remember awhile (before Snuff) he said he was working on the second leg of the Rant trilogy. That there will be other books published before its out. It would make sense that he would use book 2 (and/or 3) to clear up a little of what happened in Rant. Yeah, there is gonna be more contradictions but that was the fun of Rant (in my opinion) and I think the only reason we haven't seen anything on it is because simply he's not done. Snuff was a short funny book and I'm expecting Pigmy to be basically the same. I think (and hope) that we'll eventually see the rest of the Rant story. But look at how long it took Stephen King to finish the Dark Tower. Yes, that was a 7 book series, but if we expect Chuck to plow through the rest of Rant, its gonna suck. Again, this is just my opinion on the subject.
I can't wait for the next installment. I should re-read RANT, though. Did he ever get Green (if that's his name)?

I see myself and I look really scattered
But I lived my broken dreams"
- Daniel Johnston
Rant was very confusing. I had to read it twice to see of I just read what I thought I read.
I hope he does write a trilogy. Im really looking forward to it.
I didn't think Rant was too confusing. I read something a year or so ago about it being adapted into a TV miniseries. I think that would work, as the movie would have to be a documentary in order to convey all the points in Rant.
Rant molested the heady portion of my psyche in such a brutal way, but I think I developed the Stockholm Syndrome, and now I crave more. I just hope it's soon.
What was confusing about Rant?
Chuck should team up with Willaim Gibson to write a sequel to Rant. It would likely be the most confusing novel in sci-fi history. And I'd love it.
I don't understand what was so confusing about Rant.
In the last few chapters he basically spoon-feeds you all
the necessary conclusions.
Very interesting book though. I was reluctant to read it at first,
tentative with the whole "oral biographical" idea, believing it would
be too hard to follow, but i enjoyed this book thoroughly, and IMHO
it is one of Chucks best books yet.
Very pleased.

Keep your stick on the ice.
Rant is great. It would make an awesome film. I often forget that the story wasn't even told by Rant himself.
if you think about it Rant, Snuff, and Pygmy are all similar "themed" as in 3rd person stories...all 3 are real-time, documentary style books...so i my opinion i thought that Pygmy was the 3rd in the "trilogy"

If it confused you, try the audiobook. The performers really give the story a feel that reading it just misses. Plus you can listen while driving, it's a bit awkward reading a book while driving. I've destroyed the cd's of this audiobook, finally switching to Mp3 (grumble). But seriously it is how I first experienced the book, if you haven't tried it please do. Listening over and over cleared up a lot of things that confused the shit out of me.
I was only confused by the book the first time I read it. Honestly, it is still one of my favorites to read and re-read, but maybe that is because every time I read it, I have forgotten something since the last time and it causes me to remember or something... I don't know how to put it, other than that it was the most amazing book to read, and possibly had the best plot twist of any book I've ever read.
Rant was confusing enough as it is... If he made another one I can see it being hard to follow.
read rant again, and then once more. you'll understand.
Very good thought, plasticarmyman. But CP said Rant's sequels were to come out in 2011 and 2013? I believe?
Burned out.

The way I always understood it was it was going to be a theme trilogy, maybe even having all the same books in the same "universe," with the porting and seeing more of the daytimer/night-timer stuff, but I guess at some of the book signings he's said to people that's it's going to be a specific trilogy. I guess no one will really know until the next book comes out.
