Links
Any chance of when we click on links for other websites it will just open up a new window and not take us out of this site?
I don't know if it's just my browser doing it.
inb4 open link in new tab/new window

have you tried command-click (or control-click?)
for me, that opens in a new tab or window, depending.
I think when we first switched to Drupal, someone brought this up and I believe Kirk said he set it up this way specifically. Atleast I think that was the case.

well, my experience is under these settings
i use firefox and safari whilst i cult and i have a wheel scroll on my mouse. when i go to a link, i just click the top-scroll button of the mouse on the link and it opens the link under a new tab. i got sick of right clicking links and did the scroll button thing on accident one day and fell in love. dont tell jen

...oh...my...god! Kabol, you have taught me a new and wonderful thing!
Yes, I set it up like this on purpose. It is bad form to open a new window without the user's consent, especially now that all modern browsers have a command to open a link a new tab. In fact, it should be the same for all of them ctrl+click.
Or if you have a scroll wheel, you should be able to configure the wheel to be "middle click", which will also open a link in a new tab.
Or you can always right-click a link then choose "new window" or "new tab" from the context menu.
Out of curiosity, why is it bad form? Is it the association with that sort of action by a pop-up?
It is bad for because you're forcing a user to do something they may not want to do.
For instance, if I made links open in a new window, they will ALWAYS open in a new window. Whereas leaving them as they are, you have the option.
There is nothing I hate more than sites that open new windows for me.
You weren't aware of scroll-click? I can't believe how frustrating your lifes must've been. My whole browsing experience depends on it. Besides, the scroll wheel does look like

I always do this.
And I definitely agree on the opening a new window... Pisses me off.
I actually prefer a new window, because it doesn't direct me away from the site I'm on if I forget to do the ctrl click. But I guess its all just personal preference.
Yes Fano, I understand that some people prefer it. The problem with New Windows though is that if I enable it everyone has to have all the links they click end up in a new window.
If I leave it as is, you have the option to open a new window and I have the option to have the link open in the existing window. So ultimately, this method gives us more options.
Additionally, it is consistent with how a user expects a web browser to work.
Haha, this reminds me of my internet marketing classes.
Yeah, that's cool Kirk. I get it. I just thought it was interesting. I've never really encountered a situation like this, so I was just trying to figure stuff out. But I see what you mean completely.

Can you record your screen while you're doing this? I wanna know this wonderful thing too.

Have you got a wheel on your mouse for scrolling down pages? If you have, try moving your cursor over a link and pressing down on the wheel, without rolling it at all. It should open the link in a new tab.
!
If you have a laptop, the ctrl+ click works like a dandy. I've also realized that when I was saying New Window, I totally meant new tab. I can absolutely understand the annoyance of things opening in a new window.
omg that's so cool!

I was referring to the whole wheel scroll thing.

I prefer windows to tabs still... call me a caveman. The scroll kick is handy, though.

Nope, it does that for me too. I'm fairly sure Drupal can be adapted to do that...
