Kirk and I may have different opinions on why we have the no cussing in the shoutbox/titles in place, but we agree on the rule. I guess it's like the Supreme Court that way. Furthering the analogy, there wasn't a single dissenting opinion in banning six for at least a month among the staff.

It's kind of interesting the amount of support I've received regarding this, actually, via PM and email. I guess people are afraid to post their support here for the most part.

Banning Jane for more than a week was a mistake.

Not sure what else I'm missing/not addressing, but this isn't my top priority. No offense.

The only reason people are afraid to post their support for you is that they played nice to her face, pretending to be her friend, but now that she's gone are breathing a sigh of relief and acting like they wanted her gone the entire. It's two-faced.

I don't like that she was banned, and I've heard her side of the story, but I'm also one of those people who recognizes authority and respects it. So while I'm not at all happy with the decision, I realize that there is nothing I can do about it, and I'm not going to make enemies over it. I'll just wait until she comes back.

Seems like with her being gone, that that would be the most opportune time to come out of the woodwork though.

I think she can still read threads (hi six!), she just can't post in them. And presumably she's going to return.

Whatever you think of the decision, let's drop it already.

If you don't like a person, don't interact with them. That would be smart. Ignore them. Or tell them that you don't like them. Hell, send them a PM saying "look I don't like you, but we can be civilized", but don't sit there and be friendly, and then when they get banned, say "Oh, she deserved it, but I still like her, but I understand why they did it."

Make up your mind.

That's exactly how I feel.
I love Six. I just don't see any defensible position for what she has done.
If anything, I'm upset at myself for not being enough of a friend to have sent her a PM or let her know I thought she was on thin ice, before all this spiraled out of control.
I was an enabler.

She knew she was on this ice and facing a month long ban and made her decision. No one should feel guilty.

Man, people are complicated, and there's nothing we can do to change them. Six is Six, and some will love her and others will be "meh" towards her. I love Six, but if she's been banned, you can bet it wasn't because of malice on the part of the POWERS THAT BE. Six and Sexydeathsoda could have ignored each other, or they could have tried to work things out. You're right about that. Mirka and I managed to work stuff out that way. But for that very reason, I can tell you that no matter how much you care about Six, her banning took place because that's the way a successful site is run.

Six is nice to you, but what if she hadn't been? What if Six, or anyone else for that matter, had insulted you from the beginning and hadn't stopped? Would you feel comfortable being a newb here? We all know there's a certain amount of hazing around here before someone is accepted as part of the gang, but when it's taken too far (and I don't know how far Six is supposed to have taken it, so I'm not making any accusations here) the Admin have to take a stand. Otherwise there's no point in even having moderators.

And don't forget, for all the HORRIBLE EVIL UNFAIRNESS OF IT ALL, we, those who care about Six, have been privileged to have got a thread about it, several explanations from many of the administration like Frank, Kirk, Mirka and Jonathan, and we've all voiced our opinions without being shot down. This isn't exactly a concentration camp, is it?

So, I get where you're coming from, but it's no use bashing other members. People are complicated, this whole incident was complicated, and now it's been resolved. Six will be back, and when she does, we'll celebrate. For now, lesson learned.

You're right. I shouldn't have said anything. I went a long time just letting it be, so I don't know why I said anything now. I realize the situation is complicated, and that it could have been different if I hadn't been accepted.

Now I will tell you the answer to your question. It is this. The admins and mods seek power entirely for its own sake. They are not interested in the fiscal well-being of the site; they are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. They are different from the mod staffs of the past in that they know what they are doing. All the others, even those who resembled themselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The Something Awful and AintItCoolNews staffs came very close to them in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized administrating power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where posters would be free and equal. The Cult mods are not like that. They know that no one ever seizes mod status with the intention of relinquishing it. Bannings are not a means; they are an end. One does not establish rules in order to safeguard the forum; one makes the forum in order to establish the rules. The object of policing shoutbox is policing shoutbox. The object of forbidding parody threads is forbidding parody threads. The object of banning is banning. Now you begin to understand them.

Motherfucker, did you seriously just float the idea that someone who writes about a frozen infant being smashed into pieces and a teenage boy eating through his own colon might have his book sales negatively affected by people being mean to each other on a forum dedicated to him? I suppose then that the only thing stopping Troma from ever snagging a Best Picture nomination for one of their movies is their crappy on-set catering. Do you even listen to yourself?

Why is this thread still going?

Six is a sassy chick. Some people like her, some don't. She's always been a bitch to me. I just don't care. Doesn't bother me. She was warned about her conduct, she didn't change her attitude so she got a ban. Shit happens, she'll be back, get over it.

I agree with nate about she deserved it, but I still like her and feel bad. there's no crime in that.

That's the short answer. The long answer is what did you so with Brak? Why did she stop posting?

You forgot to use the sarcasm font.

No offense.

Seems like with her being gone, that that would be the most opportune time to come out of the woodwork though.

It's only for a month. They know she'll be back.
The only reason people are afraid to post their support for you is that they played nice to her face, pretending to be her friend, but now that she's gone are breathing a sigh of relief and acting like they wanted her gone the entire. It's two-faced.

Two faced or smart?

If you don't like a person, don't interact with them. That would be smart. Ignore them. Or tell them that you don't like them. Hell, send them a PM saying "look I don't like you, but we can be civilized", but don't sit there and be friendly, and then when they get banned, say "Oh, she deserved it, but I still like her, but I understand why they did it."

Make up your mind.

Thanks, Phil, this is really kind of you. If I was a jerk that banned people because I didn't like them, I would have banned you a couple of years ago. No offense to you, but you and I had our differences. Now, I treasure you. Like Cor and Night and others that gave me a lot of headaches. Not to lump you in a group or single you out, but I think I'm pretty forgiving and look for the best in people, hope for the best. And am amply rewarded in that respect. Much xo and respect.

I mean my hope is that there's a real fiscal reason why we can't swear in shoutbox or post parody threads or give someone shit, otherwise it just doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever...

The object of forbidding parody threads is forbidding parody threads. The object of banning is banning. Now you begin to understand them.

The site has evolved and the rules along with them.

That's the short answer. The long answer is what did you so with Brak? Why did she stop posting?

Not much of a reader, eh?

We both lost interest in posting here around the same time. She's yet to regain it I would guess.

hey, thanks for pointing this out. missed it the first time through. i dont generally respond to being baited, but some things are just plain dick..

hey, fuck you, ozy. i understand some needs of venting, but i dont know you well enough--as we've never connected, at all--to know if youre being sarcastic or just lashing out. with that snippet, i was obviously illustrating that there is a difference between the writer and his/her fiction.

as for bringing six back now, i dont see it happening. it's out of my hands and all that, but she trolled the fuck out of a new member via the boards pm and chat and that is not something that is tolerated no matter how personal of a level you wish to perceive it.

I'm less sentimentally attached to the person and more angry about the ban in principle, but having Six here is better than not having Six here.
