Just started Pygmy...
Right.. i've just started to read Pygmy.... and my first thoughts are... its crap....
The story seems good, i love the idea... but the thing written in broken english, i find it a bit wierd...
Dont get me wrong, i love the fact that its a completely new idea, very daring... but, i cant concentrate on it...
Im sure its been discussed before on here but i dont want to open any incase it spoils it for me, but what are your views?
Does it get easier as you get into it?
Does it work? I dunno...
The people that mind dont matter, and the people that matter dont mind...
It gets easier as you read into it. In fact, it eventually feels somewhat natural. I had difficulty in concentrating on it as well. The only environment I could read it in was a completely quiet one.
i love pygmy and found it pretty easy to read..

You will become accustomed to the dialogue if you stick with it. As for the plot, I think people will find it enjoyable if they accept it as absurd. If you're looking for a Palahniuk-esque Tom Clancy thriller, you WILL be disappointed. If you can continue to elevate your suspension of disbelief, you may like it. I thought it was great.
I'm with you JamboRepulse - I just started it and I hate it so far. I hate reading and I only read Chuck books, as I call them. I read it on my break @ work and I think I'd be better off waiting and reading it in a different setting, as was started earlier. This isn't like any of the other Chuck books that I've read and I do hope I end up liking it more. I can't reacall which one it was, but there was another one I was just repulsed by, but the ending was so good, I'd read the whole thing over again. Hopefully this will be the same...
I've just started reading Pygmy as well, and I must say the bad English is somewhat of a turn-off, but it's getting to me and I hope by the end of it I'll see more than just broken syntax and a seemingly misplaced use of words.
I've just started this book--a couple of hours ago, maybe--and I'm about 50 pages in. Love it. The story's just getting going and I'm finding the language easy to follow and hilarious. I can imagine it's a love-it-or-hate-it book, but it just works for me.
Yes, I want to play. I really, really do.
i'm halfway through the book and i'm having trouble wanting to pick it up and finish it. the way it's written is just extremely annoying and dumb. i've liked every other book by palahniuk, though. i've read 'fight cliub', 'survivor', and 'diary.'
but 'pygmy' sucks. it just sucks.

So, what you are trying to say is, that you don't enjoy the book?
As your attorney, my advise to you is to start drinking heavily(er).-Tuffy
I literally had to fight my way through this book. I liked the idea and some parts of the story were funny but the "English" is was written in was too distracting and I often found myself skipping big sections or having read numerous amounts of pages but with no clear idea what was going on. I also found that once I read for a little while "normal" English didn't make sense.
Overall I'm sort of glad I toughed it out because my goal is to read everything by Chuck P but overall I didn't really like it.

The language has a flow of its own and actually does get easier to understand as the book goes on.
The book does not get better.
