how does Pygmy effect your ranking of Chucks books??
where do you put Pygmy in your ranking.. i put it pretty close to the top of my list only behind invisible monsters and fight club..
-ANDY
It goes before Snuff and Lullaby. Congrats.
Step back. Evaluate. Recognize.
I'd say it's fourth or fifth on my list.
I would put it in the top 5, but would really have to think where in the top 5.
Side Note: I'm in NYC and walking down 41st btwn bway and 8th i saw a small white sticker on the back of the old Lion King theater and it was the Barracuda Deadly Eye Gouge guy. I'm wondering: where do I get these stickers and is anyone else up for a little street art Operation Havoc style? I would love to coat this city with those stickers, all over the trains, maybe write one of the more memorable quotes under the sticker- Get people wondering what the hell is this? Kinda a twelve monkeys thing I guess. Anyone down? And can I get some stickers?
i do mine alphabetically.
And one of these days we better get an Invisible Monsters in hardback or i'm gonna e mail my congressman.
Pygmy beat out my number four pick choke. You send an email to double day to get the stickers there is a post somewhere for it around here. I already tagged about 30 stickers at the hotel i work at, apparently the manager didn't think it was funny
general sarcasm
AFFECT not effect. sorry just had to do that
It's in my top 5, after survivor.
"The sun may burn brightly, and the faces of children may be plump and achingly sweet, but in the air we breathe, in the water we drink and in the food we share, there will always be darkness in the world."
yea i would deff say Pygmy is in my top 5

For the time being I don't know, my copy arrived yesterday but I'm so anxious to read it as fast as possible. As for my chuck book's ranking ... 1. Survivor ( by far ) 2. Choke 3. Snuff . I have all his books but I haven't read Rant, Diary and Invisible Monsters. Regarding these, i have a feeling they'll change the top
But I'm pretty sure about no1, Survivor is by far, the best.

Well, I haven't finished it yet, as I just got it last night for my birthday, but the whole broken English thing kinda pisses me off. I mean, this kid is a frickin' genius, able to recite the periodic table at age four, make bombs that most professionals wouldn't attempt, but for some reason his English doesn't improve at all throughout the book? I'm more than halfway through the book, and for the amount of time he has spent in America he shows no improvement in any of his sentence structures. If this is somehow related to the ending, I will understand, but if not it's kind of silly. How do you think Chuck wrote it? Did he just write it normally and then go back through deleting prepositions and such? I'll have to wait until I finish it (probably tomorrow) to give it my rating, but this has got to be one of the hardest Palaniuk books I've ever read (along with Invisible Monsters), and the only two I haven't read are Snuff and Fugitives and Refugees. Oh, in case you were wondering what my top five faves are:
1. Rant (Loved it! Can't wait for the sequels!)
2. Lullaby
3. Haunted
4. Fight Club
5. Choke
Ok, finished it yesterday. Not that impressed to be honest. It has its charm, like Madam Party Pillows and Venerated Walking Skeleton and whatnot, but this story is at most a short story crouched in a novelty novel. The whole broken English thing is a draw, or a gimmick. Without it, the story offers little to no humor, and the plot doesn't stand well at all. I love Chuck, but this is maybe just a little too much for me to give for a story.
to be fair, how long has Arnold been in this country, 40 years? and he still can't talk right.
"Let's potty!"
It's my second favorite, after Fight Club.
I liked it quite a bit, but I don't think its one of Chuck's better novels. Especially when compared to Invisible Monsters, Choke, etc...those IMO are masterpieces. But Pygmy is still a very good book. Chuck is one of the best authors around, and anything by him is special.
I think PYGMY shares the lack of structural density that Snuff does. I think a lot of people dislike both Snuff and PYGMY due to the lightness of plot structure compared to Palahniuk's other books, and that's okay. Me, I was extremely entertained when I read Snuff and just as much when I read PYGMY. My main litmus test for a novel isn't necessarily complexity in plot structure, but depth and uniqueness of prose. I agree that PYGMY is kind of a short story drawn out into a novel, but so are a lot of great novels I like. Page by page, PYGMY entertained me. So, having read another Snuff-esque novel from Palahniuk, I'm perfectly okay with it. I don't want him to write every future story this way, but I'm happy with PYGMY and Snuff as they are.
I have not read pygmy yet...
The plot sounds interesting enough, but i am worried that
this broken english prose will ruin it for me. As someone
mentioned earlier, it seems sort of gimmicky to me.
But we will see.
My top 5 rankings of Cp's books go as follows..
1. Rant
2. Survivor
3. Choke
4. Lullaby
5. Diary
although i would say that Choke and Lullaby are interchangeable.

I personally enjoyed pygmy a lot. Currently my list goes something like this.
Pygmy
Rant
Survivor
Fight Club
Lullaby
Haven't finished it yet (busy as a grad student with proposals and such) but I love it and am only 50 pages away.
As of right now, here ya go:
1: Survivor
2: Invisible Monsters
3& 4: Lullaby and Pygmy (won't know the order for sure until I finish Pygmy)
5: Fight Club
i thought this book was pure bullshit. the only chuck book i liked less was diary. for the record, i loved choke, snuff, rant, and haunted with a boner.
.:Jasper Thermos:... likes to suck dick.
Sometimes I wish I knew how to go crazy. I forget how
I'm reading Pygmy right now.
At the moment, I'm enjoying the novel.
But it's true that the plot has not the same density than other previous works like Fight Club or Invisible Monsters.
For me, Pygmy will not be in my top five:
1. Survivor
2. Fight Club
3. Choke
4. Rant
5. Diary
It can be in the middle area. At the same level or even higher than Lullaby
Better than Snuff and of course much better than Haunted.
I'm reading Pygmy right now too. Not far enough in to rank it yet.
The narrator reminds me of Borat, if Borat learned english from the terminator.

I'm anal. I stack my books in order of appearance. Pygmy is the tenth on the shelf.
