His beest work yet.
I was just reading some of the online reviews for this book and to my surprise there was an overwhelming amount of criticism.
I understand that it is extremely over the top and pretty unrealistic but that really was not the point.
Another thing that bothered many was the writing style, which, I thought was absolute genius. It gave us (Americans) a completely alien vision of our culture and much of human behavior as a whole in a way I did not think was possible in a fiction novel.
Honestly a work of fiction has not made me think this much since I read "brave new world" and "gods debris".
This novel reminded me of my experiences with salvia divinorum.
By the way I have read:
Fight Club
Invisible Monsters
Rant
Dairy
And this novel blew them all out of the water IMO.
Your perception, it is altered.

Or, to put it another way, I respectfully disagree.

Regardless if it was his best work or not , when it comes to style , he re-invented style , he took english language and chop chop he cut many ways , syntax and grammar. For official record , this so avant-guarde operative me give author of book five clear - yellow stars .
What do you mean he re-invented style? Borat was doing that 4 years ago.
this book was a slap in the face. i sold it the day after i read it.

I'm agree with you, veritasgemini, I think it's his best work but also an unique and remarquable book. Especially because of the writing style. We enter in a new perception of the langage and the reality the words show.
It was hard for me to enter in this writing style but when I did it, it has been a revolution...
I think Palahniuk has been very far in the writing style, too far to be undertsood by everyone, but it the same for all the genuis.
Think I'm sarcastic? Watch me pretend to care.
