Choke: The Movie

Discuss the 2008 adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's 'Choke' here! Starring Sam Rockwell, Kelly MacDonald and Angelica Houston, Choke was directed by Clark Gregg.

Choke to Premiere on Skinamax Tonight!

I got to admit, I'm a little disappointed. I had hoped that with such a small theatrical run for it, that Choke would have taken off and really found a life of it's own once it got to DVD.
For it to have become this cool little "cult" following movie that, while never really having a chance to match up with Fight Club, would have been able to stand out on it's own.

Granted there's a lot of flaws with it, but the movie Gregg finished with, considering what all he had to work with and the constraints, I thought for sure it was going to end up with that cheap Roger Corman kind of direct to video feel to it. But it doesn't at all, it looks sharp and as polished as any of the other huge budget dramas from last year. read more »

I really want to upload the footage to my computer and REINSERT THE ENDING

I liked this movie, I liked it a lot, it was basically what I expected and it had pretty much all of what I liked in the book.

BUT it was missing a few fundamentals that keep me from absolutely loving it.

As Chuck pointed out in the DVD feature with Clark Gregg, it left out the stuff about Ida's hypnotism, which I would've liked to see, but it didn't feel to necessary to me.
It left out that little origin story thing about Victor seeing the porn on the computer as a child, which I felt seemed important. All that stuff about how Victor liked it because the guy in the video was really willing to put himself out there without any shame...it really said a lot about his character.
And then there were the deleted scenes, which...well, I know I always think that all the deleted scenes on DVDs should've been included in the movie, but with this one, it felt like the stuff they left out really left the movie incomplete. read more »

:(

I couldn't get round to seeing Choke last week and was really excited about seeing it today but was shocked to find out it's only showing in three UK cinemas now, none that are anywhere near me Sad I can't believe it was only shown for a week! Does anyone know of any alternate way to see it, or when it's going to be out on DVD?
Also, why wasn't it more pimped? I didn't see one advert for it here in the UK Sad I reckon it would have done better if it'd been advertised as "from the writer of Fight Club..." etc etc
Anyway, it's ruined my Saturday and I just wanted to share that with you all! haha

Any word of dvd release

Just wondering cause i can't wait to see it

choke the movie, for you losers out there

okay. how many members have not seen this movie?

what i mean is, of all the members here who live near a theater screening this movie, how many of you are losers, how many of us havent seen it even once yet?

i mean, i figured by now we can chop openly about it, but then again there are members who have to wait for the dvd and there is likely to be many losers around here who havent gotten around to it yet..

so, i wanted to do an anonymous poll, because that would seem more effectively accurate
but we c a n t do polls anymore
so im just asking right out
going the honest route

Chuck Was In Choke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is saw chuck in Choke towards the end of the movie in the airplane. Did anyone else see him?

More Reviews of Choke

I was wondering what else people thought of the movie...

I saw it on Saturday, and my honest review is that is was "fine". Not raving amazing, or earth shattering, but good. It really make me wonder what people who haven't read the book and/or aren't Palahniuk fans would think of it. It had a lot of funny stuff, and stayed with the book on a topical level pretty well (save for the changed ending). Anjelica Huston wasn't as bad as I've heard others say. Kelly MacDonald was a little flat. Sam Rockwell and Brad Henke(the guy that played Denny) were great!

The story lacked a that back-story, inside Victor's head, depth that the novel created. You don't get as involved with his savior complex, or his mother's insanity, or specifically Victor's self-loathing turned to self-acceptance by the end as you do in the book, but I suppose that is better accomplished in the novel format anyway... read more »
