Hello all,

Apparently ARCs of Snuff are out already. I luckily managed to snag one earlier this week. I read the book in one sitting and then wrote a review on my website:

I tried not to give anything away. Enjoy!

Nice review.  Not too spoiler heavy.  I wasn't quite sure what to make of the premise when I first heard about it, but after your review, I'm pretty psyched to read it.

I also got my hands on a ARC which came in the mail yesterday. It was an entertaining super fast read, and at no point did I find myself bored with it. Although knowing what I know now I would have waited till it comes out in May instead of paying the extra money I had to pay to get the ARC.

In a video interview, or text interview, or somewhere else. It was from his first unpublished novel, and it involves a blow-up doll. If anyone knows where I heard this quote from, please let me know.

I think talks about this scene in the Postcards from the Future documentary, right?

Thanks for that review.  I'm excited for this book and for the tour which should be equally entertaining considering the material.

I have a question for you.  In your review you state:

Quote:
In fact, from there on the whole novel feels like how-to examples of Chuck’s writing exercises. (These essays can be found at The Cult) From the unpacked descriptions, to the chorus, to the endless spewing of facts. He even has his characters “keep time” in interesting ways: number of scenes in a porno, number of dandruff flakes picked up and discarded, etc. It is all familiar territory. Familiar, but oh so invigorating.

This quote reminded me of a conversation I had with a friend earlier this week. He has read most of Chuck's books in the past, and he just finished with Haunted and Rant back to back.  He basically said that though he enjoyed the books, he was growing tired of "Chuck being Chuck"... he felt that while the subject matter will change, the "formula" remains the same.

Based on the quote from your review, I'm curious if you got that same vibe at all.  If I wasn't such a fanboi of Chuck, would Snuff feel 'redundant'?

That is a great question. I think one of the reasons he has done so well as an author is because he really did invent his own style. (Well, not really "invent", but he does at least write with new tricks and new energy). His writing is so unique compared to most other styles, that you can easily pick his books out of a lineup. When you start reading, there is no question you are reading Chuck Palahniuk. Because of this, if I read more than one of his books in a row, I think it would get repetitive.

There is more to Snuff and his other books then just style, and I think that is why I can keep reading his books. That, and the fact that in between novels there is plenty of time for me to read other books with different styles. Every time I come back to a Chuck book (so far at least), it feels fresh. Even if I am used to all his tricks.

But like you, I am a fan boy. Would I feel the same way if I wasn't? I don't know. I don't think I would have read enough of novels to notice the trend if I wasn't a fan boy. We'll have to hear from someone who only read 2 or 3 of his books and isn't a giant fan. That might be hard.

Yes! That was it. That was really bothering me. Thanks!
