Snuff.
thoughts on his next novel?
The next one is called Snuff and it’ll come out a year from now. It’s about the filming of one of those world’s largest gangbang porn movies. It’s about three guys who are waiting their turn to get called onto the set. You find out their back-stories like why they are there and what is their real motive for being there. My editor had dared me to write another fast funny dark little book. So this is just a real fast dirty funny little book.
I heard it was somehow connected to Rant, but thats just a rumor.
In Chicago he said that two of the guy's in line at the gangbang are the porn star's relatives - a son who has never met her, and his father

Like, i've said before, I'll have to keep this one hidden. Rant is hard enough to hide.

I wish i could remember where I saw it, but the "snuff" film is supposed to be along the lines of the girl is doing the gang-bang until she dies from it.

true. That one was hidden as well.

Indeed, she's trying to set the record and die in the attempt so that it'll be illegalised for anyone else to attempt it after her, securing herself a place in history or something.
houston did over 500.
I've always wondered if they take bathroom breaks or whatnot during those. Seems like they shouldn't be allowed to and still call it a "gang-bang"
That's cheating!
Something darker and funnier by Mr. P... I can't even imagine.

Sanity, the ultimate insanity.
Damn it's great! And very funny, I didn't know that the next novel would be called like that and about that, and I read complete articles about snuff movies, few days ago, because I'm just curious...

That sounds like a very interesting read. Can't wait to pick it up.

I think it's quite funny that you welcome me,whereas it should be the other way around. Where are you from? how are you?

if its her son's father, than that would make him NOT a relative lol
Does anyone have any idea of when it's going to be out in stores?
Does anyone have any idea of when it's going to be out in stores?
My guess is sometime early summer 08
The beginning of Rant was great--those chapters where Rant collects teeth, smells condoms and maxipads stuck on the fence, and sticks his hand in holes, and the egg chapter...It reminded me of Huckleberry Finn. It had the childhood adventure thing going.
I hope Snuff is good.

Right, the dealio is that Chuck will be writing three similar books along the lines of Rant. We don't know how they're connected. Snuff however is in no way connected to these three novels. Chuck says the novel we can expect in '09 is the next Ranty novel. Snuff is a dark little funny book that if I don't say so myself, sounds like it'll have us in stitches. It was never the second book in the Rant series.
that's how i read it as well. snuff is his self titled "apalling" novel but has no relation to the rant trilogy

Honestly I think Chuck has been focusing on grossing people out too much. I'll probably enjoy the book, but I want something I can recommend to people like my parents.
have you been able to recommend any of chuck's books to your parents? I personally thought Rant was great but a bit toned down which, if I recall correctly, was his intention. Really looking forward to this one
. .
so, the arcs have make it to that eBay site
I would personally love a Snuff arc, but i aint got no money for one. $50 to $80 bux sux
whoever reads one first, make sure you post your immediate first impression

I agree with diary, but not so much with rant.
Pussy plugs is there countless times, not to mention what cassey did with them
I think diary is his most accessible. I dont know if he'll ever deter from satire and write serious books, but i think the man has a few in him. Im sure his breakfast of champions or his gatsby will come. But for now, his books are all just for me

Friend of mine just finished an ARC of Snuff. He liked it - but then again he's a big fan. He said it's similar, style-wise to Rant, and that he felt Chuck wasn't moving far from his established niche - the same voice, the gross outs, the minimalist "burned tongue" style. If you're a devoted fan, you'll enjoy it (great one-liners, outrageous scenes), but if you're looking for Chuck to do something different, well, not so much.
that's great and cool by me. now, have your friend send that arc thisaway for a few days, that'd be swell

this book looks genius. im a fan of all his stuff bt this shd be perverse and awesome
Apparently my mom found my copy of Diary in her house (I haven't lived at home in three years) and read it. She randomly told me one day. She said that it was mediocre and very strange, and I agreed with her. I wonder what she would think if she read any of his other (i.e. better) novels. I bet she'd like Lullaby. It seems fairly parent-friendly to me.
Well, I've officially gone crazy. I just put 100 dollars on the ole credit card for an ARC of Snuff. That's 50 cents per page. But I CANT wait another 3 months to read it. Unlike most around here, I didn't start bashing him after Diary. I think that Diary, Haunted, and Rant are all 3 similar in that they don't grab me as much the first read through, but on repeat readings I get more enjoyment out of them than his earlier work. Long story short, I'm still obsessed with Chuck's work like most of you were pre-Diary and I can't WAIT to have my hands on the latest.
. .
ey, blasto. no worries, we are pretty much all still fans of chuck. it's just kind of a funny thing, following an artist from basic inception through a full career: we read each book as it comes out and watch him firsthand change as an artist
when i read nabokov and vonnegut and even bukowski, it was great, great times, i loved the books, but they were all written, written long before i got to them. even cormac mccarthy started long before i got to his books and it's only an added flavor that he's still publishing today:
the great thing, the most beautiful thing about reading an author for the first time and loving that author is finding that he has a dozen more books out there that you can get right now, today, and read them all at your own leisure
what i've found even rarer is finding an author and following his/her career from pretty much jumpstreet--i mean, we have will baer and craig clevenger, but cc has two books and wcb has three so they're just getting into their careers and chuck is steady in stride with tours and books and short stories and articles and interviews: we get to see it all, why he makes the dicisions he makes, why he went to horror for a spell starting with lullaby, the reasons he wrote snuff the way he wrote it, what soundtrack he listened to while writing lullaby, why he ends his books the way he does, the reasons he today can't read fight club without cringing internally.. et cetera
what i mean is, this is the really good shit you can't pick up later, lost the way most pop culture fades a few years later, but not entirely forgotten because we experienced it:
and as we experience it, we form opinions and vary those opinions and change those opinions and change those opinions back
many members have disliked the way chuck went with diary and have badmouthed it, maybe felt bad even duped with the first inital read, but many of those same members will read it again someday and probably think something along the lines of "That was pretty fucking good" even though they were looking for Survivor II when they initially read it so many years ago
and no matter how much peoples bitch and moan, most of them are very much looking forward to snuff, for pretty much all the reasons above
i know i am

I've been following since Choke came out, and believe it or not, I did not hear about Chuck and his work by seeing Fight Club. A friend of mine lent me Choke and from that point I started at the beginning and worked my way through. I was mildly disappointed with Diary on the first read-through, but like all of Chuck's books, I've read it at least 3 times, and it gets better ever single time. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about Haunted at first, but it also gets better every time I come back to it. Rant on the other hand, I should retract from my earlier statement. Rant sucked me right in. I bought it the day it came out and read it cover to cover that day. And I've re-read it twice since. Such an amazing book. A lot of people seem to be of the opinion that Chuck is a one-trick pony or that he just keeps repeating the same formula. I guess this could be said of any writer, their style never really varies even if the settings do. I think Chuck has matured a great deal with his writing since Fight Club on through Rant. Hopefully that ARC of Snuff will be here sometime next week. Anyone had experience buying those? Are sellers of them pretty reliable? It looked like a legit copy of the book to me.
. .
yes, they are usually pretty legit. i usually prefer the arc because i like my first read to be a softcover edition, so a lot of books i wait until the soft cover comes out. though, i havent been able to wait on a chuck book yet. his arcs are too expensive for me, so i read the hard cover. it sucks that sellers are making so much off an item they are getting for free: it's chuck's work, his publisher's work, his editor's work, his pr people's work, even dennis' work and these booksellers get advanced reading copies to read and just sell them and make a hundred bucks a book
it's rather unscrupulous, the reason and only reason i won't spend money on one--especially a full c-note
I'm not blaming you for anything, blast: if you hadnt have bought it, someone else would have. you are definitely a fan and i hope it comes in perfect for you and all of that. man, i'm so certain it is gonna be a great read, so really i'm mostly excited for you, i promise

I like mine paperback, too. Once Rant comes out in paperback, I'm going to buy Diary, Haunted, and Rant and give my hardcovers to someone else. Plus every once and awhile there's a new forward or afterward from Chuck in the paperback editions. I figure if I want to make my money back I could just resell the ARC once I've read it, but I don't think I'm going to want to part with it. I'll probably post a review once I've read it. Judging from the seller's feedback I should have it by the end of the week.
Do ARCs have much resell value after the book has come out? I can see if it's like a HUGELY popular book and I'm sure Snuff will hit pretty high on the best sellers lists but I just can't see an ARC of it being that big of a deal afterwards. Also, I could see laying down a 100 buh for one if it was like before Christmas or something. 5-6 months in advance and have something brand new for the holidays but it's actually even less than 3 months before snuff comes out! That's a sneeze!
Well, I was thinking more along the lines of selling it back for half what I payed before it actually comes out. But I think I'd want to hang on to it. I feel like Chuck's books are worth it, even if he's not seeing the money directly from this purchase.
Do they ever come out with hard numbers on how many ARCs of a particular book they do publish, anyone know? I'd imagine it's a couple thousand or so.

I heard it also has something to do with flight attendants making a snuff film. I'm not sure how that fits into the gangbang. Whatever, it certainly sounds dirty and dark and since it's Chuck we can expect funny too. Hopefully lots of funny.
