I thought snuff was
hi i'll start off by saying im a massive, massive chuck fan....but i thought snuff was a load of shit. i hated it, i think its his worse book by a long long way. all the way through it i just kept thinking..so what...so what.. i couldnt see any point to any of it. the ending, the lightning..yeah right. it had none of the energy or anger of his (brilliant) earlier books. ok i accept that as a person he has changed, evolved, of course, we all do, over time. his personal circumstances have changed and maybe he no longer has the same anger. Or maybe he thought why do the same old thing time after time, try an alternative approach, fair enough, im just saying i hated it. Am i alone? also i hated haunted which i think in most circles was quite well recieved, so maybe i dont "get" his work any more. i loved rant, thought it was absolutly spot on, cant praise it enough. tc guys. ben.
Haven't read Snuff. It just didn't seem interesting to me.
I liked Haunted the first time I read it, but when I tried to reread it, I found it utterly boring and rather annoying in parts, like the characters names.
"Nine times out of ten it's an electric razor, but sometimes..."
i loved that aspect of haunted

snuff seemed rushed. and it sucked. i love every single one of chuck's books except this one. this book was a total waste of like 9 hours...
Snuff could've been good, well, you could say that for every piece of shit. I didn't like it at all. Chuck's worst book. I hope he got his shit together for Pygmy.
"My hopes lay shattered like a mirror on the floor
I see myself and I look really scattered
But I lived my broken dreams"
- Daniel Johnston
Snuff was just boring. And rushed.
I hate books that drag on and on, but Chuck can write a book that drags on and I'll cling to every word of it.
It isn't just the past we remember, it's the future too. Fifty per cent of memory is devoted not to what has already happened, but to what will happen next. Appointments, anniversaries, meetings, all the rolling engagements and plans, all the hopes and dreams and ambitions which make up any human life - we remember what we did and also what we will do. Only the knife edge of the present is 'hard' to any degree. Past and future are things of the mind, and a mind can be changed.
Snuff was pretty bad. His other books are so deep and layered and filled with crazy philosophy. It had no point. It was just dirty for being dirty's sake... If that makes sense.
"A celibate clergy is an especially good idea, because it tends to suppress any hereditary propensity toward fanaticism." -Carl Sagan
"Am I cruel? Probably. Is she an idiot? Yes." -jane s.
I didn't think it was so bad. Which is surprising because I'm very picky with what I read. Oh well.
To be fair, that's pretty much exactly how Chuck described it beforehand. So it was definitely what he claimed it to be.
I liked it up until the point where Chuck used the phrase "electric chair cattle-prod dick of death" haha I love, and I mean absolutely adore Chuck Palahniuk and his amazing writing. And I liked the book, but it was by far my least favorite.
if you do not love this book, you can shave my balls with your teeth

Sometimes I wish I knew how to go crazy. I forget how

hey, ben. welcome to the cult. or i should probably state: welcome back to the cult.
yeah, snuff was a bit different. but that was the point. a dark, filthy little book. something to fuck with his agent with. basically, he lost a bet with his editor--or so i've heard in reference--and came up with something utterly appalling. my woman was grossed out. sickened is i think the more appropriate word. ultimately, though, again, i think that was the point.
as for rant. yeah, it was pretty fucking good.
and haunted was well received. seems to be a least favorite among olden chuck fans, fans whove been reading him since the first few books. but it brought a whole lotta range to his following. you'd be amazed at how many fans of chuck's became fans after reading haunted. i know i was amazed when the boards were flooded with new members after haunted came out. many of those new members, i found, hadnt read anything else by chuck. just starting out. so, yeah, haunted brought more of a dynamic to chuck's legend, and pygmy is supposedly being marked as his best work yet. (very much looking forward to that one.)
again, welcome back to the cult
