ending... confusions and theories....SPOILERS
just wondering if anyone would like to alaborate on how they felt about the ending explaining what happens and weather or not you picked up something that some people might have not......
I'm personally confused on how shiela killed cassie with the pillow at the end a chapter and in the next chapter she's banging branch.
The ending was prompt and random, but for some reason I didn't care. I question whether the 'meld' was even physically possible, but it's like whatever, Snuff is not intended to be taken seriously.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
What? That didn't happen. She only choked her with a straw. Unless I missed something?
I have to re read it again, but I could of swore it said and then I chocked my mother to death with the pillow.
I just finished reading the book this afternoon. I'm basically positive that it said she choked her with the straw. Actually exact line:
"And before she could say another word, I shoved the plastic drinking straw into her mouth. Stuffed it all the way to the back of her throat. Gagged the witch into silence." page 177
I also just finished the book and I don't understand the ending. Did Cassie and Bacardi both die? Did only Bacardi die? Or did they both live?
Also, I don't understand why at the end while 72 and Sheila are outside, why Sheila is trying to get back into the building?
I would appreciate some enlightenment.
From what I got, it's unclear whether Cassie or Branch died. It just says that they are unconcious and the doctors are trying to do what they can to save them, while Sheila looks for the doctors' attention.
On Mr. 72 and Sheila outside the building: it says that she smells a barbeque, or something cooking. She then turns and realizes it's coming from inside, and tires to get back in. During the next segment, we find out that the smell is Branch and Cassie being electrocuted and burned/cooked/melded together. So Sheila was outside and smelled it, and then wanted to find out what was going on.
I hope that helped.
they lived. the paramedics brought branch back, but the electricity nocked cassy out... they took them both because they were unconcious and melted together...
i'm a terrible person, in more ways than one.
When I read the last sentence I thought, "Wait, what? Did Sheila die? Why weren't the paramedics seeing her? Was she a ghost? Plus she says in the last chapter both Cassie and Branch aren't dead. But the paramedics don't seem to think so. Which makes me think Sheila is dead even more.
I was so confused toward the end. The bit about Sheila shoving the straw in Cassie's mouth/down her throat, I assumed that Sheila killed her. And in the next scene, Sheila comes down from the upper room all mopey and melodramatic and angsty, so I could only assume that's what happened. She killed Cassie and now she's flipping out. We've seen that sort of scenario so many times in books and movies.
But of course, Cassie's not dead by the last chapter, and neither her nor Branch die as far as we know.
AND ONE MORE THING THAT'S BEEN DRIVING ME FUCKING INSANE:
I guess I must not have been paying attention, but when the fuck did everybody on the set and in the green room vanish? Did they even leave? Towards the last few chapters, I don't remember reading anything about the waiting dudes or the camera crew. I know the film crew was there when Mr. 72 plowed Cassie. But was I not paying attention to something? Were the three main characters the last ones there? Were all the other guys there at the end of the story?
The whole last third of this just novel felt so sloppy. God.
as i remember it, you perform you leave, that door that only goes one way. exit only. so every dick that goes into cassie is one less person in the building a few seconds later.

Yeah, I know you leave immediately after you're called up there, but it just seemed like after the story hit a certain point, it made no mention of all the remaining guys in the green room--which is frustrating because you don't know how, or even if, they reacted to Sheila flipping out, or how they reacted to Cassie and Branch getting fried. Since it made no mention of the them (to my knowledge), I envisioned Mr. 72, 137, and 600 as the last remaining guys.
I guess I just wish we could've gotten a wider shot of the surroundings.
72, 137 and 600 were the only last guys in there. They made it so number 600 was the very last guy to bang Cassie so he was the last one in. 72 and 137 "tricked" their ways back in so they were there with Shelia.
As for the camera crew, its a good question, where did they go? There is the line about Shelia killing Cassie with the straw and it makes you wonder, did they just sit there and watch her kill Cassie (even though she didnt actually die there) or did they leave figuring that Shelia would clean up everything else considering she was Cassie's wonderful personal assistant.
Either way I think its a minor detail.
You can't believe in anyone else
She didnt kill her with the straw. It just says she gagged her into silence. It doesn't say she choked her to death. Maybe the wording of that lin is a little foggy but after we see cassie alive it should become apparent what the line meant.

Why did 72’s adoptive mom tell him that his birth mother was Cassie Wright?
Given the comments throughout the novel on the physical resemblance between 72 and Branch Bacardi, are we supposed to infer that 72 was in fact a porn baby, but from a porn star other than Cassie?

I thought the thing with the adoptive mom was supposed to be her making him feel even more ashamed for masturbating.
Also I think any passing reference to a physical resemblance between 72 and Branch was just that, at the end. You don't have to be related to someone to look like them. But then I haven't read the book in a long while.
judging from this thread, 'snuff' doesn't sound at all appealing to me. not that it did before, i guess.
