What is the cover?
I was wondering......what exactly is on the cover of Rant??

Yeah, that was one thing that I thought about, but I wasn't certain. I also thought that it might be to represent 'threads of time', but that wouldn't account for the bone colored stuff and big mass in the middle

I dont know where i have read that it was a ripped cow´s heart. But Im not sure and i haven´t read the book yet
that's my current plight. i bought a copy from the barnes store on the first or second but havent been able to break the seal. once im finished with the intensive, i'll get to read it. so i figured at that time, i'll know exactly what it is..

I'm abuot 2/3s in and I got no clue. For somer eason I think heart when I see it even though there's a bone.
I just got my copy today, all the way from the US of A. Thanks Amazon.com!
You know what the cover looks like to me?
Looks like Batman's sidekick got the shit kicked out of him real bad. The red and yellow. The R in a circle. It's all there, folks. Robin got fucked up, and how.
It's just cover art you asswits
The question is what does the cover art supposed to be? Abstract or something else?
Here's the LINK for the read..

Am I the only one that sees a face? I see two eyes in the big yellow part, then a yellow nose and a circle for the mouth. I dunno, maybe it's the whole faces-in-the-clouds phenomena. I interpreted it as some kind of face being ripped to shreds.
Then I got a shiver-fast scope of his face and in a far corner of my brain came a sunspot flare of recognition, like glancing up at a passing cloud and thinking wow, that cloud looks exactly like a girl on a bicycle. Blink, and the flare is gone. Even now the particulars of the guys face are dissolving into a thousand others, but I remember he had dirty blond hair and mercury eyes.

Ah that clears everything up. Yeah I passed that part of the book and still didn't know. Thanks!

Same here, just finished it today, tried to savour it
That's what I'm trying to do. It's quite hard. I find myself "accidentally" reading like 5 chapters or so before I catch myself.
Wait. I thought, for sure, it was a nerve ending. Isn't it?

What is it supposed to be exactly? The cover I have looks like veins and arteries spewing around like a bone. I am confused to the relevance the picture has toward the book? I am half way done, so I understand if the meaning isn't apparent at this point. If someone could tell me what it is, if it doesn't ruin anything, that would be great! Thanks!
It is a cow heart. It stems from Rants haunted house scenes. This is answered along with alot of other questions you will undoubtedly have throughout the Rant forum.
I think it's funny how, if that is supposed to be a cow's heart, that they arted it up to such a degree that it doesn't look anything like what it's supposed to. Sort of the same way in the book they would use the spaghetti and peeled grapes and whatnot. We can't handle a picture of the real thing!!

Maybe they just wanted to be a bit artistic with the cover art?
But that's a big maybe.
The bone is what keeps throwing me.
Who the hell pictures a piece of bone in a heart? That's ridiculous
Who the hell pictures a piece of bone in a heart?
I would say that the artist of that image is who.
I would say that the artist of that image is who.
hence the question, Who is this artist?
also, how can we keep him or her from ever doing a cover again!?

Keep them from ever doing a cover again? Simply because you personally don't quite understand their illustration?
riiight.
Maybe it was you??
Maybe it was you??
Or maybe I'm not just such a judgemental guy who finds the need to not only criticize but (try to) trash things simply because they aren't made glaringly obvious to me.
Maybe the only need I find is the need to call people out when they think that because they don't personally understand or like something that it's somehow therefore bad or that the person behind it should have a job.
But again, those are big maybes.
Yeeesh, pull the stick out of your ass and have some fun.
Look up some of owenwarland's old posts, you two would have a ball together.

To be honest, if your lighthearted posting here is what you consider to be fun, well, I'll be happy to stick to my own idea of fun.
well, I'll be happy to stick to my own idea of fun.
ok, but I get to be on top.

But that's just me.
You're right, I don't get the sense that you're such a judgemental [sic] guy at all.
Sorry, brah, I don't do straight guys.
You're right, I don't get the sense that you're such a judgemental [sic] guy at all.
Hey, I suffixed it all by saying they were just maybes.
Sorry, brah, I don't do straight guys.
You get outted as a hypocrit within 12 posts and you immediately turn the gay-route. That's got to be some sort of record. Well done.
How about that Fight Club?
That was some cover, eh?
You get outted as a hypocrit within 12 posts and you immediately turn the gay-route. That's got to be some sort of record. Well done.
How am I a hypocrit? You need some better reading skills, my friend. I never (seriously) said I wasn't judgemental, I said it the way I did to point out that that's what this other guy was being.
And it was this other guy that brough out the gay card. I just followed along with it, brah.
I don't want to say you're being dense or anything, but it's a thread discussing "cover art." There can't be a more ridiculous topic to argue and contemplate over. Coming up with all kinds of crazy theories and ideas is the only way to make it interesting. The kennedy guys do it all the time.
Hey, ignorance is ignorance even if it's in something as bland as a topic about "cover art".
On the official Rant website, the object in question is animated blowing in the wind and being stuck in the wires of a fence, so maybe it's not a bone but the end of an extreamly heavy coated tampon.
that's my guess
I'm surprised someone doesn't think the cover is the inside of a wang, so instead of an extension it's an inversion.
Good cover art is never dull! It's essential! It's why people pick up books they would otherwise trip over. The more hideous, the more it catches your eye, depleting you enough to at least scan the flap. Shelf impact! And personally I think Rant's cover is the best. It's wonderfully abstract but carries that anatomical feel you associate with Chuck. If you want a dull art you don't have to go far, look at those mass market manufactured supermarket space filler vomits.
The artist is Michael Collica people!
I like Edwyn, as I'll say again. He maybe can't spell too well though.

The more I think about it, I really like this as an explanation.
I like Edwyn, as I'll say again. He maybe can't spell too well though.
He's hard to debate with because you can tell he's got a contradictory viewpoint but you're never quite sure what he's arguing about.
Hey, I'm just glad people like me.
I like you.
To me... the cover looks like a mouth. You can kinda of see a top lip and a hint of teeth. Maybe the "bone" is a jaw, cut out tongue, or something. My theory on the mess of flesh.
Remember in the beginning when it talks about the bloody tampons all blowing in the wind and becoming a big glob of blood and shit? Then it gets caught on the barb wire fence; well if you go to the rant website the bloody mess on the cover is whats on the barbed wire fence. So basically the cover is a glob of tampons and period blood.
(it's in chapter 3-Dogs)
my idea was a desmenbered body, close enough
