Nothing yet, but keep checking it!

Here's a short bit from The Seattle Times. "His next book... porno movies." WTF? Smile

Chuck Palahniuk, most famous for "Fight Club" and the stir it caused, has another book due in the spring. It's called "Rant" and it uses faux oral histories to tell the story of Buster "Rant" Casey, who Palahniuk calls a "reinvented Huckleberry Finn character."

Palahniuk, who lives in Skamania County, has long dipped into his reality to concoct outrageous, surreal and cultish prose. There are a number of connections with "Rant." Casey was a small-town kid (Palahniuk grew up in eastern Washington's Burbank) who heads to the city (Palahniuk left Burbank for Portland). Casey becomes a leader of an urban demolition-derby phenomenon called "Party Crashing," in which participants dress their cars in certain ways that give players the OK to fender-bender into them. (Palahniuk has done this and says "it's a lot of fun").

Brad Pitt's production company has expressed interest in "Rant." Pitt played the Palahniuk character, Tyler Durden, in the film version of "Fight Club." Two other Palahniuk books, "Lullaby" and "Choke," are rumored to begin production in the spring, too. And his next book? Just think porno movies.

You know, Nate made me feel more comfortable about shit like that. I mean a book about porn movies isn't going to be good at all, but it's probably fighting/fight club stuff. Did that make sense? I hope it did. It's really early and I'm on the cult whilst our water warms up so I can wash.

I can see porn movies running w/ a Chuck-typical theme.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that).

But I mean, imagine you've been nailed by like, 50 people in one day. Or you've been one of the people doing the nailing.

Now, imagine getting stuck in line buying groceries. Would you care?

No. Probably not. And didn't he talk a little bit about that in, like, either Survivor or Choke? The idea that you could openly expose yrself so much that eventually no exposure would matter. No embaressment would be too great.

Something like that. I like porno movies, though. So I'm looking forward to it Smile Big.

Still, like, no. As I see it Chuck's books are heavily about relationships. He says he writes about lonely characters, but I disagree. Sure, they might start off lonely, but each and every one of his novels is about a group of people and their relationship. Consider the obvious, Tyler, Marla and the FC narrator. Tender Branson, his brother and erm, felicity/fertility I can't remember. Then there's everybody avoiding relationships in Haunted and, well, to be fair a lot of writers do it. But not all of them. From what I've heard of Rant, then there's a load of relationships in that book, and I can't see a porn book being about a lonely girl who gets done too roughly up her front. I've more to say, but I'm thinking too much and will probably disagree with myself completely when I wake up tomorrow. I need a job bad. In conclusion Will, I very much doubt it's going to be about someone being fucked so much they don't care about anything. At the same time, I think it will be. And also think that a book is never about a story, a story is about something else. Like, what, you could say Choke's about a sex addict, but, well, is it? Is the book limited to that? I refer to my earlier comment about shit, and the excess that comes out of my mouth and slops filthy down my front onto my arms and fingers and into the internet.
