Rant: The Audio Book -- Has answers... (Spoilers)
So instead of re-reading the book a fourth time, I borrowed the audiobook of Rant from the library.
In my wicked ten-point-five hour journey I found out alot about the story. And the way it should be read. And how the story develops with everyones contradicting contribution to the story.
[SIZE=4][SIZE=5]Issue with Green being 23 and Echo being 8 when she had the accident[/SIZE][/SIZE].
At the end of the story Shot Dunyun says:
"Shot Dunyun: Bullshit. You know, if Echo jumps back in time, she'd be around today, but with both regular arms and legs. Normal. And with living, alive parents... Echo would be the same age as Rant or Chester, or whatever he calls himself now. They'd be just two regular, boring middle-aged people" (Page 312).
Stating that maybe Echo wasnt 8 when she had the accident. Or Maybe Green wasnt 23. Or maybe what Shot Dunyun is saying is bullshit.
Or, consider, alternating timelines where as maybe in the original timeline Green had brothers and sisters and maybe a grandfather that wasn't him. So he made himself be born a little later, postponing his birth and 'stoking' himself even more.
[SIZE=4]Now where you guys say, "Echo Lawrence ain't in the Contributors page!" Well guess what my beautiful ladies and handsomess gentlemen she [I]is [/I]in the Audio book and it is read as follows[/SIZE]:
"Echo Lawrence, Party Crasher, read by Angela Rogers, is missing and presumed immortal..."
Oh yes my gorgeous, wonderfully interesting, beautiful, sexy fellow Culties - Echo is mentioned...
And another thing -- I think I figured out the BIGGEST PLOT TWIST that was staring us in the face...
Y'know that whole idea that this is a "oral biography" but instead its a fictional story. Now with this in mind I'll state this [I]Rant has succesfully stopped Green from raping his mother stopping himself from ever beeing bo[/I]rn.
The clues are there, Irene Casey is still alive. Whereas Chester Casey has disappeared with Neddy Nelson, Green Taylor Simms disappeared as well as Rant.
Consider that Rant "never existed." That he's so forgotten and disappeared that this work which was a work of non-fictional biography has turned into a fiction...
Maybe there's a plot hole I missed to which you find young forum dwellers can inform me about it. Plot hole, I mean is, in what I've stated.
If this is how Chuck wanted us to figure it out -- fuckin' brilliant
So..if in the next RANT editions echo is added that means that we will have some "unique" RANT editions with an error?
Chubbz, I think that once again you are on to something. If RANT is a story about a guy who erased his existence, then the whole beginning "Do you ever wish you'd never been born?" thing makes so much sense.
Any ideas on anagrams for Green Taylor Simms? I've been trying to figure some out with minimal success. I feel like since you can see the name 'Rant' and 'Reen' (what Chet calls Irene) in the name that there has to some connection.... I don't know.

No, like it is said in the book...reality becomes fiction...this moves from being a biography to a fiction novel...

Honestly i figured all of that the second read. I do think that we have only scratched the surface of the meaning and intricacies of RANT.
One thing i think Chuck was really trying to point out was.... Time Loops are fuckin' confusing
I think all of the Party Crashers we hear from have gone back in time.
Neddy has stopped the whole I-SEE-U act, which is why we don't have it.
Shot has screwed up the neural plug technology (He goes to the past to try to make it, fails, I think Echo suggests this)
...I really wish I had my book on me. I don't know what else to mention!
Anyway, all of them have gone to the past, making this book a piece of fiction. This all would have happened in an alternate reality. (Or it can still happen, as the book seems to be set in the distant future, or at least a few decades)
Also, I think your audio reading wanted the name of the reader to be mentioned, and so they HAD to throw Echo into the credits at the end and it just worked 300x better if they did it this way. It's not necessarily what Chuck wanted to be in the audio reading..?
That is a very interesting idea. I think I might have to go back and read Rant again.
Rant must surely exist though.. if he had succeeded in stopping his mother in being raped then surely he could never have gone back and stopped it in the first place, so really it's just one vicious circle.
And if Green Taylor Simms failed, wouldn't he just go back and try again a little earlier or later than when Rant got to Irene? Rant stopping him would not have any impact on Green's existence since he came before Rant... unless Rant had gone back and stopped [I]that[/I] from happening...
