Rant & Irene (spoilers)
Crud. I just posted a bunch of questions and my computer died. I don't want to repeat anybody's questions. But... here's one.
Rant was supposed to go back in time to stop his mother from being raped, right? So when Irene is telling the story and saying that some naked little boy tried to save her, but failed, she was referring to Rant, right? I can't remember... what happened to that little boy? Did he explain things to her? And ... what was the point of it if it he was late and didn't save her anyway? And... if her whole family was at her house, wouldn't she go home all muddy and disguting ... didn't anybody say anything? Did I miss something?
I loved the book, but I had a few of those Austin Powers cross-eyed moments when thinking about time travel...
Maybe Rant didn't want to be immortal, and saving his Mom was the only way to change everything.
He failed yes. He came too late. He escorted her back to the house and then we don't know what happened. He left and did something and then arrived a few days later asking her to marry him.
So did Irene know she was, in essence, marrying her son? And is that why Chet left Rant in the garden after he'd been bit on Easter? Because he knew he could handle it?
