please tell me what the hell this chapter is about. it all reads like gibberish to me and it seemed like he was talking about a movie i saw before where people recorded exciting events strait from their brains with a thing that goes on your head and then they sell them please help my tiny little mind

Remember the matrix, how they plugged themselves into virtual reality programs? It's the exact same thing. In the Rant universe, "boosting peaks" (as it's called) has replaced most other forms of entertainment, as people use it as a substitute for real experiences. The effect of the peak depends on the viewer's current state of mind, and so they can enhance it by filtering the peak through different viewers (a baby, a blind man, a meth addict, a dog, etc...) It doesn't really factor into the overall plot of the novel, Palahniuk uses the whole peak boosting thing as an allegory to how no one lives their own lives anymore; we simply replace real experiences with movies and television and what not.
