Chuck's rolling into town next Monday for a signing, Q&A, and a showing of Fight Club and I've got tickets!!! Anyway, since the only authors that usually show up here in Kentucky are fat old ladies selling cook books or how-to guides on interspecies relations I've never been to one. For those of you who live somewhere where the chief export isn't pot, would it be OK for me to bring my paperbacks of his books to have signed or should I only bring my hardback of Rant?

Thanks!

feel free to bring whatever of chuck's you want, but i'd limit it to a couple - i brought my 1st/1sts of Survivor, Choke and Lullaby to the signing, and picked up copies of Haunted (hc and pb) that they were selling there, so a total of 5 signed in all - that was probably pushing it a little - since i already have signed copies of Rant (both flatsigned and personalized) i'm bringing some weird stuff for him to sign: 1st/1st of Pursuit of Happiness (first excerpt published from Fight Club), a UK Rant ARC, and a Russian copy of Fight Club - the only books of his I don't have signed are Fight Club and Invisible Monsters - if i track them down, i'll bring them instead - i saw a guy have him sign a first published short, may have been Playboy with a gold marker, and i thought that was kinda cool too - i do have a copy of Vice, with the short he read from last year, so maybe that - but i'm keeping it to 4-6, more if they are flatsigned, less if they are personalized

that's my two cents!

I'd say limit it to Rant and one or two others. Remember, he's been known to sign for five or more hours straight, sometimes not getting done until two in the morning; I really don't understand why he doesn't have carpal tunnel. THing is, he really doesn't care, or at least pretends he doesn't, but I've been to enough to see he gets annoyed, especially when some jackass brings up ten copies of fight club, because you know they're going to run them on e-bay. And actually he likes to sign random stuff, like dolls, severed limbs, etc. Also some events have signing caps. In new York for the haunted tour people could only have a haunted book and one or two other books signed. You might want to call the venue to see if there's a cap.

Hey Nonamesleft47,

I just got my tickets for the Kentucky event yesterday, I'm coming in from St. Louis! I've seen him twice before in Kansas City, you are going to have a great time!!!

Regarding the signing, I think Chuck would probobly sign any of his books you bring, but I think to be nice to chuck, I would limit it to a couple. I know those signings kick the shit out of him.

The last signing I attended om his last tour, he was gracious enough to sign all my books. I had about 4-5 (I think)...even though I thought this was a lot when compared to everyone else attending, but he was cool as hell about it. He was impressed that I had a HC 1st/1st of Fight Club and asked me where I had gotten it from...I jested with him and told him eBay, but he gave me a funny look and could tell I was not serious as he asked me to be truthful...(I had gotten it from a friend a long time ago and was saving it for this)...

Most people (and surpisingly enough there weren't that many) that attended this reading/signing had probably about 2-3 items each. And the bookstore sponsoring it was selling his books as well and they were cool about bringing your own.

So yeah...you should be OK with 2-3 items/books.

for the haunted tour he was limited to three things and they had to be books. his handlers wouldnt allow me to get my dual disc of fight club signed. i was kinda pissed.

I remember in Galway some asshole ahead of me had about 12 different things from Fight Club for him to sign, Chuck did it no problem but I felt sorry for him. Just to meet the guy and get one or two things signed should e more than enough for anyone.

if you have a handful of your own first editions, and this was the first time i'd ever met him, i see no problem with getting more then 3 things signed - for many, this is the first or only time, so as long as you don't have 12 FCs to sell on ebay, you should be ok

I don't think he'd mind paperbacks at all. He seemed more happy to sign my belt than my books.

He signed my brother's paperbacks when we went. He had 4 of them. And even gave my brother a hard time since he's a big guy (6'4" about 250lbs)...it was funny...

i think the weirder the item the more he likes it, especially if it isn't the same book(s) over and over again - i'll be curious to see what he thinks of the Vice Magazine or the Rusian Fight Club or the Pursuit of Happiness (1st publication of the short story that became Fight Club).
