Let's Get 'Rant' To #1 On The Bestseller List!

One thing I've always seen and been impressed by with the people behind Chuck's amazing career, is that they've always taken an interest in his fanbase. I'm talking about the good folks at Doubleday / RandomHouse. I'll also include superstar agent, Edward Hibbert in this category as he never ceases to thrill me with his energy when I meet him in person or talk to him on the phone.

Today's newspost comes to you from Chuck's editor, [b]Gerry Howard[/b]. Gerry is a legend in the industry. Hell, this is the guy who brought America [b][i]Trainspotting[/i][/b]. He's a guy who defines the above sentiment. I know this because I've seen him and his wife at Chuck's readings wearing Tshirts for this website. He participated in our 'Postcards From The Future' documentary with a thoroughly entertaining an in-depth interview about his working relationship with Chuck. And now there's today's letter that he, on behalf of all of RandomHouse, has written to you, the fans.

I have a favor to ask. Don’t tell Chuck we talked about this.

As most of you know, Chuck’s eighth novel, [b]RANT: AN ORAL BIOGRAPHY OF BUSTER CASEY[/b], will be published by Doubleday on Tuesday, May 1 . The first thing I want to do is thank all you good folks, as his editor, for making Chuck Pahlaniuk not just a cultural figure to be reckoned with, but a commercial force as well. If you had told me in 1995, when I had just acquired FIGHT CLUB and was hoping that my employer at that time might sell enough copies to earn back an extremely modest (ahem . . .) advance and even a little more, that Chuck’s novels would someday be spending months on the bestseller lists, I would have said something like “Nahh.” What a great fun ride it’s been. If so, I urge you to buy the book from the bookseller of your choice as close to the on-sale date as possible. If you decide to buy the book from an on-line bookstore, you should know that pre-orders are counted in the first week’s sales that are reported to the New York Times and other bestseller lists. To paraphrase the old line from politics, I urge you all to buy early and often.

As you know, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Chuck’s loyalty and his generosity to his fans have been something to behold, and here’s a way we can all give back to him. Let’s give him the gift of a spectacular debut of RANT on the bestseller lists, one whose momentum can carry his sales to new heights and introduce his fantastic talent to an even wider circle of fans and readers.
