HI ! I am a french reader. So sorry for my english... I've just read RANT. Like a lot of you i was very disturbed with this story... and especialy about the logic of all af this : Simm = chester = Rant. The jump beetween the time... etc etc... The fact that you can screw up your own mother or grand mother to make you god... I think that Chuck want to write a new version of the Evangile... To demonstrate that a lot of our beliving are based upon very crazy story and testimony. But we belive in them !! We can't deal with the nonsense... so we Yeah !!! It so weird and unbelivable ! Can you belive all this story ?! Can you belive in what Chester said, in what Shot said ?! Do you belive in Marc, Luc all the evangelists ? Do you belive that Jesus was the son of god because he desapered after is death and because some pepole wrote a book about him ? Do you belive in the tooth Fairy because a lot of people are speaking about it ? Are you going to explain how a fairy can fly ? No of course... but a lot of Rant readers are trying to make a sens with this silly story.

As if all of Chuk's characters were telling us the true... A lot of you are taking there crazy story on the primary degree... In my opinion Chuck's is testing your sens of reflection...
But perhaps one day in the futur, A church with the name of RANT will exist...

But for me
RANT is truly the first nihilistic book of Chuck ! When i read all theses oposites testimony my brain is falling apart...
At the begining of this crazy story, I imagine that it's going to be like all the other books of Chuck. Ok ! RANT is as subversif as Tyler Durden ! as Victor Mancini, Brandy Alexander etc..etc... As if Chuck always write the same book... Very funny and enthousistic for me... But after few pages, after reading the enemys, the friends, the Daytimers, Nightimers etc.. I had a very strange and very bad feeling... Oh Chuck ! What are you doing with RANT Casey ! I need you to give me his true Story ! Who is the true RANT Casey ?! I need to Know !! I can't live without certainties...
Before RANT when i finished a Chuck novel i could feel in peace... Ok it was the raw story of very acid caracters... but i could deal with because i know them... I know who they were, It was like i could pined up another Icon in my pantheon of very nihilistic antiheros. Previously Chuck wrote as if the TRUE realy exists ; as if there was only one way to watch the world...

For the first time, Chuck Palahniuk show us that in fact it's totaly impossible to write about someone, about our world... without lying. It's like the writer was a big liar.

At the end I dont know who is RANt... I dont Know anything about him. I read this book and my feeling is that i am not a mastermind... and the world a very big joke. Thank's Chuck... Your book is screwing up my brain ! Fuck you !!
Wallace Boyer is featured essentially in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. He speaks of such topics as pacing and the three distinctive types of brains/listeners/learners. He eventually applies this to actual characters in Neddy, Shot, and Echo. It is hard to put into words, but listen to what Chuck writes and how he describes each characters means of learning and it really puts a better perspective on them, a la how to read them.
The idea of pacing discussed by Boyer seems to be how we the readers are supposed to interpret the characters, Each varies and each should be read and understood differently. Essentially, when I read Rant, I took Boyer's advice and "paced" the various orators. Worth a try anyway.
Why isn't there a French group like the Brit group? There's seems to be more than enough folks for one.

You hit the nail right on the head with this one. I have just finished reading about an hours worth of book reviews and forum confusions on such things as the science of Rant, if anything makes sense, etc. The fact is that this is an oral bio/oral fic/ or as I like to call it "oral contradiction." I have read the Capote oral bio that Chuck actually cites in Rant, and after reading that, one gets the idea that ideas and history is not finite. There is never one true answer. Everyone should reread Rant and really pay attention to the characters. Think to yourselves . . .are these people you would really believe in real life? Think about who is talking to you . . . the delinquents, the Doctors, the hicks, the deformed sex addicts . . . try to understand the credibility and the motives of each character.
