I think that I understand most of Rant, but there is one thing that is really confusing me. Early on in the book, there is a chapter about Rant's mother Irene writing on eggs in wax, and then dipping them in easter dye so that you could see what she wrote. In the city, Rant gives Shot, Echo, and Green, eggs, and he tells them to dip them all in wax when he dies. Echo says that she never dyed hers, because she's afraid of the smell it would make if broken. Green says that the message on his egg was "Fuck you". I understand that because Rant probably knew that Green had raped his mom, but then theres Shot's. Shot's egg says "Green Taylor Simms". Any ideas why?

Don't waste eggs!

Also, I haven't read Rant yet. It's next on my list, though. (:

Sorry, zuezz, I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm sure someone will be along soon that knows.

I'm still not sure why that was Shot's message, but Echo did read eventually read hers... she just used coffee instead of dyeing it. Her message said "In three days, I'll return from the dead."

Writing Green Taylor Simms on Shot's egg was Rant's way of warning/informing them who was the antagonist/the historian/the reason he was going back in time. At the time when they received their eggs, Echo and Shot were unaware of time travel and the eggs were Rant's way of saying "This is why I did it and I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier." Why he chose to give that specific egg to Shot is still a mystery to me, although I assume that Rant knew Echo and Shot would share the message he left each of them.
