Does it get better...?

This book is just starting to seem like any other book; nothing like any of the other Palahniuk books, which I've enjoyed immensley. Lullaby, Haunted, Choke, even Invisible Monsters (I'm reasding it on the side... for 'fun':p ) were some of the best books I've ever read, and couldn't stop reading them. However, with Rant, it seems like I'm only reading it when I have nothing better to do, if not just for the sake of finishing it.

I'm at chapter 10, by the way.

It just doesn't seem like Rant can really be that bad. I mean, everyone on here seems to love it, and apparently Chuck is looking to make a couple sequels as well.

So, if I've read this far and am still not interested is the book even worth reading? Or should I just quit it for now and go back to Invisible Monsters?

I agree. And not everyone on here loves it. I did. I finished it in two days. Let us know when you're done.

Sure thing, buddy.
*Spoilers*
Ahh, just got about 6 chapters further. Things are getting kind of crazy now. Echo was just talking about how Rant's 'pa' knew about his future or something. Also that whole 'peak boosting' thing... crazy.

Now is where it gets fun/confusing. Don't worry if you feel like you missed something. You did. And reading it again will help, but not completely satisfy. Enjoy.

I didn't like it, and stopped. I had three other books I was reading at the same time/before I started and it didn't seem worth it. Like I've said before on one other Rant thread, sometimes you just have to be ready for a book. And re-read it. I haven't reached that point yet, but I figure it was almost $30 so I have to read it no matter what Wink

Do what you want. Everyone on here seems to have figured it out/ discussed it to the last detail, so perhaps you could finish reading it and then look at the discussion boards...and then read it again. It seems like an extremely complicated book if you don't look into it hard enough and have an open-mind. Everyone's "spoilers" and tips will help once you're done.

I put off reading it for about 3 weeks (which absolutely killed me) because I had to finish exams, then when I started reading it I was a bit disappointed for the first few pages before being entirely blown away. It is such a fucking GREAT book. That's all I wanted to say...

Woah, alright, so, I just finished the book and reread the last few chapters, for obvious reasons... and I have one thing to say: Holy shit on a fucking sandwich with shit on top. That book WAS CRAZY. Even when I finally got the plot twist (I think) I just sat there thinking about it for a half-hour or even longer. I'm actually starting to wonder whether or not Chuck Palahniuk even knew what happened.

Either way, I would think my new list of enjoyment for Chuck Palahniuk books would go something like this:

1. Lullaby
2. Rant
3. Haunted
4. Choke

Yes, that's right, I did, in fact, enjoy Lullaby a little more than Rant, but only because it was an all-around good book, whereas Rant was a little boring at first. Still, I think it was well worth the 300+ pages, each one entirely necessary towards developing the books plot. Also, just because I enjoyed Lullaby more thoroughly doesn't quite mean that I thought it had the best plot twist. Wink

Funny, I liked the first part of Rant best.

ill put it this way:

chuck has always expressed a hate for sequels.. something about, the least fun thing he could think to do would be to write a book again. the fact that he is considering this as a trilogy down the line, that's enough to tell you that you can trust him. when i first started IM, i couldnt stand it. i was confused and found it hard to trust that he'd level it out. i thought about it for a few days and realized that i trust this author, so i slugged through, and got hit hard. that book was badass.

kind of reminds me of my friends who couldnt get past the opening few pages of Lolita. such a great read and Nab's narrative is thick, but the story is so fucking worth it..

finish it. seriously. then come back to this thread and express away. chuck has at least proven time and again that he is worth your time..
