A question with interpretation of the book (SPOILERS)
Alright, this is my first post here but I noticed nobody was really talking about the questions I was asking to myself. Or at least I just cant find the answers here. From looking at all of the posts it seemed like the general consensus that time travel was actually happening. Wasn't the end of the book basically stating that time travel was all false? The rabies epidemic was false. Rant is a god-like savior and his two lying disciples created the whole god-like image of him. This was their way of coping with his death. They tell this lie to everyone and everyone joins in to either cope with their shitty reality or to act like they knew their savior to feel better about themselves. The point of Rant's story about time travel I thought was to not make sense. It is suppose to have holes. Most religious texts don't make sense in every single aspect. Thats what I see in the forum here. People interpreting the story so many different ways, creating different religions in a way on the book. Just as everyone in the book had different beliefs on Rant. I don't know if I'm pointing out the obvious or if I just don't know what I'm talking about.
I think as far as the time travel and rabies epidemic being false. It hinted at that the entire book was actually a work of non-fiction until Rant went back in time and changed things and stopped that future from happening so the book became a work of fiction afterwards.
i'm really going to have to re-read this book. after reading all these threads, i think i missed something...
i'm a terrible person, in more ways than one.
You might have a point about alot of the things. Time travel coulda' been bullshit, but the rabies epidemic can't be because there are too many individual accounts that say the contrary like being attacked by a drooler, or wanting to be one, or being Rant's girlfriend and getting rabies
But yeah, I do see where your going with this
I half agree with you senorcool.
When I first finished Rant, I couldn't help but think of Survivor.
But how are you gonna explain his astute senses of taste and smell?

Maybe how good he tasted and smelled was a lie:
p.312: "Maybe Rant wasn't so...balsy or or big as we remember him. Maybe this is how any religious figure gets created -- his friends brag him up, huger and huger, so they can get laid." ...
" Maybe people don't travel back in time. Maybe it's lies like that, anything that smells better than the idea of death -- black, inky, forever death -- it's those kind of sexy lies that set up world religions. Maybe Rant is just dead."

Good point. Either way, this is the idea I've liked better and adapted to. Good looks on putting it out there!
The only part of that I can't get on board with is Irene Casey's account of how she got pregnenant...it seems very strange, and it fits with the other stories and there's no real reason for her to lie about how she got pregnent.

Your post makes a Hell of a lot of sense but Im no expert on Rant so hang around until someone else comes along.
