The first time Green Taylor Simms accidentaly traveled back in time, why did he even think about having sex with his grand-grandmother? as far as i know, he had no idea that having sex with her would make him "stronger" so to say.

Actually, I think it was portrayed in the book that the first time Green/Charles flashed back in time, it was all accidental. Perhaps after that, when he might have given himself information before he flashes back in time, it became more deliberate.
No, he knew about it. He time travelled TO have sex with is great grandma
