What do these things have in common?
Seeing Danny DeVito in the Van Gogh Museum, babbling through Secret Window, cheap wine, Italian restaurants, the sexmuseum, drinking Heinekens on New Years’s Eve, being stuck between thirtythousand people as we drink those Heinekens, good coffee, missing the last train home and having to get out a city earlier than expected and crashing at a friend’s place who wasn’t home right away, slushy snow, free hot coco, coffee at six a.m. in an airport, old bananas, comfortable silences, apples, live bands, wet shoes, beers, gong bars, browsing books, talking before sleeping, talking eachother’s ears off, critiqueing where the light comes from in Dutch paintings, watching the fireworks, giant white bunnies, irish bars, jupilers, open kitchens, unbreakeable weedpipes, cheap coffee and a whole bunch of other stuff...
They all happened when Mr. Brown and Maddetchke Malorkus met… for five days in Holland.
Kick ass you two. Sounds like you had a really good time. Sneaky-sneaks. Thats so cool.

I am so glad for you two. It's like, beautiful. The actualization of dreams. Which is unexorably cool.
Dream, little birds. Dream and fly. My love to you both.

whats a gong bar ?
Maybe when I meet cultists I should take photos.....I'm bad at that sort of thing.
"What's a gong bar?"
Now that I think about it, I don't remember seeing a single gong in that place. It should have been called Big Purple Cushion Bar.
There are so many more photos of this trip.
Maddie and I once agreed that we were totally in love with the Ozzies and their beaches and their friends and their bars and their awesome boots, and we wished that we could live with all of it at the same time, as a lifestyle. That's kind of how I feel about Maddie and Brown hanging out in Holland.
There is hope, but not for us.
I adore the Dutch language. It is so cute. While listening, I can almost understand what is being said because it often sounds so much like English, with a cute accent. And little Dutch children are so precious! I wanted one for a souvenir.
The red light disctirct was pretty crowded in the evening, and while walking through an alley where some glass doors displayed the cooing lingerie-clad goods for sale, one such display window was open while two laughing girls wiped down the glass. Brown turned to me and said "It's not what you think."
The sex museum has a very unusual "fountain" on the top floor, and some unexpected uses for the mushroom motif.
New Year's Eve we started drinking in a beautiful but mello bar with colorful tiles on the walls, and it just sort of transformed into a dance party around us, as the waitresses moved the tables out of the way and looped streamers over the speakers. I do have some dark and blurry phone shots of Brown cutting a rug on the dance floor.
Now, Brown is a good dancer but one thing I remember about this party is something I've never seen before in America - 5 straight preppy white guys dancing their asses off, in a circle, with neither rhythm nor women, and apparently without strained intention of finding either. And what's more, no one else in the party thought it was strange! They were just dancing and having a good time, and I mean they were MOVING, they were flipping and flopping and wiggling all over and they didn't care who saw them, they didn't care if there were women to dance with or not. You just don't see that here in Hickville Farmtown. And you sure as shucks don't see it in Appalachia. This is why I travel, to see new things, new people. I had an awesome time. Holland is sweet, and Amsterdam and the smaller towns around it are so pretty. Even the little towns that, for their size, would be nothing in the US instead have their own charm in Holland.
I remember Maddie asking me, "You think those guys are gay?" And me looking at the guys, not realizing the cultural differences, going, "Emm, I don't think so." Wondering, do they look gay?
In addition I like to say, that Maddie's a great dance partner. That gal can cut it up!
Believe it or not, we even "Woot Woot"-ed in a very loud and drunken manner in honour of the Cult, right after the clock struck twelve on New Year's Eve. So there ya go, we thought of alla y'all too!
I had black dust on my face from all the fireworks going off around us. Everyone was setting them off on all the streets, big skybursting ones, small flashing poppers, spark-spitting screachers, everything.
how fun!! let's see more pictures!!
extremely cute

Brown sent me links to all the pictures he took but now the links are not functioning. I don't know why. Ask Brown for an explanation on that. I am so drunk in that last picture, ha! We had a backpack full of beer.
Something messy happened with the photobucket account. Here are two more:

What do these things have in common? I will answer in Jeopardy form. Did Mr. Brown & Madde have a kick-ass New Years Eve weekend?
Congrats you two on having a great time!
If we do another cult awards, I vote Maddie for having Best Bone Structure. I'm pretty sure she has the world's most perfect jaw.
There is hope, but not for us.
She's taller than I thought.

Giant white Bunnies at the airport. (look at the one on the right side - he goes like "pffff, it's a hard job standing here at the airport and being gawked at)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v616/emobrown/brownmaddy/maddybrun/BrownenMaddy027.jpg
That lunch place was so perfect, cozy, golden, warm - and the sammiches were outstanding. Once I overheard the blonde waitress in the light blue - you can see her in the picture washing dishes at the counter - singing "you better watch out, you better not cry, you better now pout..."
Dutch people list paprika as an ingredient on the menus, as a seasoning like you'd list garlic or peanut sauce. I'd never seen that, and I never thought Paprika was worth mentioning because it had so little flavor.
I only at ate at one Mexican place but it's my suspicion that in general the Dutch don't know how to do Mexican food.
You're right paprika has no flavor and Its usually just added for color. Your trip looks fun.
It's just to sprinkle on deviled eggs.

#%$!@&# !
Just so everyone knows, those giant bunny statures are MINE.
There is hope, but not for us.
Oh my god, that just looks like far too much fun. I'm desperate for a New Year's like that in Europe. I've had 2 in Scotland and both of them weren't exactly thrillers. Fun, but I need a Seeing Danny DeVito in the Van Gogh Museum, babbling through Secret Window, cheap wine, Italian restaurants, the sexmuseum, drinking Heinekens on New Years’s Eve, being stuck between thirtythousand people as we drink those Heinekens, good coffee, missing the last train home and having to get out a city earlier than expected and crashing at a friend’s place who wasn’t home right away, slushy snow, free hot coco, coffee at six a.m. in an airport, old bananas, comfortable silences, apples, live bands, wet shoes, beers, gong bars, browsing books, talking before sleeping, talking eachother’s ears off, critiqueing where the light comes from in Dutch paintings, watching the fireworks, giant white bunnies, irish bars, jupilers, open kitchens, unbreakeable weedpipes, cheap coffee and a whole bunch of other stuff kind of New Year next time. That sounds like an experience.
oh kickass thread
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
I swear there are more pictures. Brown, remember the one where you held the camera out and you just got our necks? And the one where my face is squished up against yours, like my nose is mashed into your cheek? Those were cute.

Only be fair? I was already planning that when Maddie suprised me by coming here before I could go there. And when I do, I'll sure as hell wanna get to see the Chicago gang too.

It was an honour and a pleasure to hang out with Maddie. Things kinda went their own way and that's always cool. Not too much planning and such. I have to say she's a very pleasant guest. When we were stuck in a small town due to train schedule changes, and me not knowing if we could spend the night at a friend's house (due to me leaving my cellphone at home ONE DAY OF THE YEAR), she was like "Hey it's not your fault, why should I jibber jabber you to death about it when we can't really do anything about it now?"
It adds ease to the situation. My friend was home and things worked out. In the end, I got a nice "Hey I know you're awake"-poke out of the whole deal.

Aw, thanks! You have the greatest friends ever, and you were incredibly generous and self sacrificing the entire time I was there. I totally invaded your life and you never once made me feel anything less than the most welcome guest in the world. You were so accomodating! You showed me a great time.
I did get crabby on the New Year's morning, when I puked outside the train station and that woman looked at me with total shock. That was pretty funny though, I was just exhausted. My last night there when we were in the rain, I was crabby too, for a little while, but both of those times I was just worried we'd miss a train or something, and I felt like a jerk for putting you out. I hope you didn't think I was mad at you. I tried to let you know I was just stressed about the situation. Thanks again for waiting at the airport with me. First I felt guilty about keeping you up all night, but in the end I was glad to have a friend there to talk to, and to play "Guess which cult member I'm thinking of"
so was there any planning at all involved in this soire' ? or did you just call him from the airport and say "ok, come pick me up dammit"

nice
