UbikRex drove up to Austin from San Antonio on Saturday. He arrived around 4:30 while my chick and I were wrapping out yard sale, which was successful.

We had a good time and plan to do it again. UbikRex is a cool guy and I was instantly comfortable with him and having him in my house. So, what did we do? Well, let’s let some pictures tell the story.

Here are your heros

UbikRex –

We hung out at my house for a little while and watched the Jets kicker blow it.
We put in a PM to Bitofafinger (Kareem) who also lives in Austin, but he didn’t see the message till later. As he said Whoops… So it was a twosome instead of a threesome.

We headed off to get a bit to eat. My chick went over to her friend’s house to leave me alone so I could as she put it “Go on my date with the guy I met on the internet” My chick is funny and she actually had nice things to say about UbikRex and was glad I had a good time. She was also concerned that he drove all the way home and sort of upset with me that I didn’t insist that he stay the night. My chick is concerned for safety like that. Anyway, I took him (he drove) to South Austin, where it more liberal and well, cooler actually. Parts of Austin Suck, but downtown and south Austin are fucking cool.

Our first stop was Polvos, a great and inexpensive Mexican place in a sea of shitty and expensive ones.

My favorite thing about Polvos after the Chili Con Queso and the Shots of Hornitos is the bathroom. Please notice how fucking close the urinal and sink are. You can piss and wash at the same time. Convenient.

After food we went to Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse, my favorite place in town.
We kicked back on the patio and talked about all of you. Oh, it was fun. We had about the same impression of everyone. Fucking cool. Meaning you guys are fucking cool. Neither one of us have had any real problems with anyone in the cult. We talked about the workshop and writing. There was a girl sitting with an unfortunate looking fellow playing chess and as we stood to leave she asked if we were in an MFA program. HA I said we in the Cult and gave her a pitch on it and the URL. (So, if you join say hi, and I hope the comment about that guy you were with didn’t offend you too much)

We drank…

Then we headed to the G & S Lounge to drink and shoot pool.

And we played pool…

But what about chicks? Did we talk to chicks?

and we peed…

Around 12:30 we grabbed a sixer and headed back to my house…(now been drinking since 4:30) We hung out and watched MADE. A very funny picture.

And we drank…

and we peed…

And played with Enin…

UbikRex in my living room at 3 am

So there you have it. A Cult/Stanza Society Meet up.

Question?

p.s. This was my 1000th post and that makes me happy.

(Most of those beers were consumed by me I have to admit...UbikRex did stop drinking for a few hours before he went home. He wasn't drunk driving. )

That was so funny! I like your chick too, she sounds decent. Looks cool. I'm so proud of you, I don't know why. Ubik has an emoticon on his hat though, what's up with that? Does it magically change like the faces of the trains on Thomas the Train Engine? I always thought he was underage. Who'd you talk about??

I have to say I enjoyed myself with Daley folks. Defintely knows how to show someone a good time...Internet Date...wish you would of told me about that. Reminds me of when we were talking to the lesbians and them asking us how we meet. I preferred my story of meeting over homemade pies and stamp collecting, but saying we meet up for a Yard Sale not Garage Sale (There's a difference) after meeting up in a internet forum workshop still had the quality of queer either way so Rob....we need a better made up first meeting. Everyone I'd like to say that Rob here is a cool cat that not only showed me around his playground around Southern Austin but made me feel like a temporary member of his home.

That first picture of me is classic, thumbs up with a smile on my face and hat. I am like uppity good guy all happy, stupid and naive with your picture of someone tired, angry, experienced and slightly drunk. That cafe was a great place. When you were giving that girl with the chessboard a bit of info on The Writer's Workshop I decided to use the restroom there. I locked the door behind me only to have someone pop it open a minute later and quickly close it back, luckily I was just washing my hands by then. (That's right I had my pants pulled up and I wash my hands every visit to the bathroom you sick heathens!)

I had a good laugh with the Lesbians giving us a view of the other side....The Ladies Loo. But that bartenders there were major shitheads with a fist stuck up there lame tweezer plucked nose hair faces. When they can't supply a budweizer in Texas and you ask what they have I don't want to hear some shit head telling me 250 different bottles. I would have peed all over there floor if I had to urinate to tide the shift of balances on that one. Don't feel bad about me driving home at the late hour of 3am, I made it home safely and Rob was more than kind enough to let me stay at his nice home which he suggested several times. I made it home within an 1 and a half hours even with me pulling over half way through to get some air due to my near blackout spells behind the wheel due to a lack of sleep over the past 4 days. Five minutes of staring at passing cars I was rejuvinated and l I was back on the road and made it safely home to contribute a post in the Stanza and take care of some reading then head out to work a few hours later. (Still hasn't slept)

The emoticon hat doesn't need to transform faces, because when I'm angry I stuff people's foot in their mouth and the smiley hat does all the smiling for me. Defintely up for a Cult Convention 2005. I'll shall appear with no hat but with clothing where ever it is placed. Cutting things off here because I don't feel like proof reading and I already forgot what was said. Damn I also wanted to ask how much you were selling the kids little flip action photo thing ( I forget what they are called all of a sudden) for. I was going to bring something back with me to send out to a lucky Cult member since it now would have carried Cult Nostalgia. I'll have to do that some other time. Anyhow this is me leaving

This is a graded A - message

that is fucked.

Damn I can't believe I missed that and we were just talking about that last night. I went unnoticed on my 1k post count but I really couldn't care less. It would be nice like we said to have like one member who has reviewed like over 100 stories and is a top dog member and a editor tagged member with only like one post to account at the end of all this with said person telling someone in a few short words, They Suck. Now that would be funny and cool.

If we build it, they will come.

Definite location and basic details should be set six months in advance, to give members with the furthest distance/ greatest expense time to prepare and save up for it, request time off work, etc.

I say we vote between Austin, Portland, and Lexington.

Austin for being a cool town and about as accessible for Mirka coming from California as it is for me, coming from Kentucky -- besides Kareem and Daley already stationed there and UbiRex (and jen!) reasonably nearby.

Portland as a Chuck honorarium, of course. Break out your Fugitives and Refugees and read up.

Lexington (Ky) for being right at the beginning of the south, and almost as accessible for northerners like Dennis and some of our Canadian friends as it is for people from the deep south. Also, I'm close enough to Lexington to make up for how easy it is for me to get there by doing tons of preparatory legwork.

Cult Convention 2005. Don't sit me in a bad section is all I ask. Oh and RK Daley I now was informed of the name of the toy thing, A View Master. Anyhow next time around I'll be sure to foot a pieces of scratch for it.

Wouldn't a poll be a little more democratic? Also, anybody pushing to have this near them should be capable of carrying tons of responsiblity for it. Like handling money and renting rooms and maybe even picking up people at the airport. In fact, I would rather it isn't in Lexington. I would rather it be in Austin or Portland. Because then it will cost me more, but I'll also just sort of show up.

Come to think of it, if we're going to have a full-blown Cult Convention in the Summer of 2005 -- not just a little regional meet-up -- the only person I would trust to organize it is Mirka. So maybe instead of a poll on locations, she should get to decide where it's going to be.

Hint hint, nudge nudge, know what I mean? Whadda ya say Mirks? I will show up two days early to help, if somebody gives me a place to crash.

ha ha hahahah haha! That was brilliant!

And hell ya there should be a convention. There are actual faces behind these avatars.

By the way, I usually travel every spring and summer. This year the idea was to go cross country, and eventually end up at chuck's play on the West coast. In the meantime I was going to map out cultists and make random stops. So I'd be more than willing to get to a convention and help out with the leg work.

I put up a hand for Lexington. Being the only Cultie in Indiana (I believe) It would be very accessible for me to get to. Either there or Chicago. We have a few up that way too.

RK, that post was a cool sandwich served up with a side of kick ass. Sounds like good times were had by the two of you, excellent beer was drunk (Shiner Bock! Fuckin' A!), new paths were crossed with spacings of urinals and sinks, checking out Austin....all good stuff. This Cultvention thingy sounds excellent. Out of laziness and because I love this city, I would say a Chicago meetup would be great, but I'd consider visiting another city. Summer would be best though. Glad to see you two had a good time!

You know, there are an awful lot of Chicago Culties. How about having our own mini convention? Me being from Indiana leaves me very lonely and needing to see a few of those nearby that I've been chatting with.

That would be cool. Are there really that many Chicagoans on here, though? I mean I know there are quite a few in the surrounding states as well, but there's quite a few Ohioans, several New Yorkers, a couple Arizonians, some Californians, Texans, etc.

So how many do we have from the North central states of Indiana, Ohia, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin? (and maybe a close Canadian or two)

I'm in Lafayette, IN, so that makes 1.
Who else do we have?
HA! That was my first thought too. Ubik is such a cutie, and I love the way RK is like, leaning away from the camera in every shot, like the photographer has no sense of personal bubbles.
I was leaning away because I was holding the camera at arms length. I have short arms. Damn these genes.

It was a good time though.

And Wenknee.....You are definatly on the list to hang out. As I have mentioned to you before, I would like to do a once a month Texas Workshop/Get together with all us Texas folk. Myself, Ubikrex, Wenknee, BitofaFinger, Big S, and I believe Kasey Carpenter is up Dallas way.

CULTvention - I will call a few hotels and see what sort of rates we can get.

If you have a Cultist in your area. Meet them. It's fun and easy and can only make THIS place stronger.

And do not forget about me...

Glad you two had such a damn good time. I have friends in Austin, RK, and will probably be making a trip there in a month or two. We'll have to get together...you like to party, I do nothing but party, so it will definitely be a meeting of the drunken kind.

Old England man!

god damn it's wet!

Does anyone think that in the pool one it looks like daley could be ubi's dad or something? Also, there seems to be a rather strange obsession with taking photos of toilets.

I know that, it's just funny. Don't worry, I too understand the tribulations associated with short arms.

I'm curious, I read your posts and I hear a stereotypical student voice. All, 'like' and 'sort of' and 'literally'

Am I wrong?

Yeah you're right. Have you read any of my posts in the 'post a weird thing that happened and I'll top it' thread? It's more obvious in that one. Incidentally I'm 21.

I use literally, but only when it's a appropriate. I hate it when people say things like 'I literally jumped out of my skin'. I also use words like 'random' and 'bazaar' so I really am a stereotypical student.
