Things you want to do in New York
So all you awesome Culties who are visiting New York, this thread is for you. I happen to think itineraries are lame, and I'm sure most of you feel the same...having a trip planned out to the minute sucks balls. That said, there is a toooooooooooon to do and see in New York, and I'm sure a lot of you would like to do many of the same things. So to make for a fun-filled trip for everyone, and to ensure that everyone gets to do as many awesome things as possible, it would be helpful if everyone can post some of the things they'd like to do/see most while they're here. That way, the New York Culties can help y'all plan activities that are close to each other and things like that. Sound good? K...then get to it!
Piss off fuckhead. I'll not only stab you - I'll steal your wallet to. Because I'm from the Bronx and that's what people from the Bronx do...we are all criminals...but I'm sure that's what you've already heard.

I want to get married for the purposes of a Visa, can you arrange it. Oh yeah I want to go to the same AA meeting as Lohan. (Im not asking for much).
Well, so far on my list:

Go to a concert at a dive bar and hang out with the owner after the Sublime cover band finishes it's set and that bar closes. Kick yourself for not checking out the bodies exhibit, earlier. Take the train uptown to get to your hostel, but make a stop at Times Square to see a 7ft tall transvestite walking down the street. Then go hang out till bar close with some chick from Turkey that you also met at the Hostel. Then steal the shot class because New York shot glasses are huge, at least compared to the Wisconsin shot glasses that I stole. At least that's what I did in my one night in New York.
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
Go to CBGBs ....whoops!
My band played at CBGBs
i love that the "things not to do" thread is bigger then this one haha
That's kind of the charm of the city, though. There are WAY more things NOT to do (that you end up doing anyway)...
People are in New York (City..?)? When?!?! I was just there! And am going again, soon-ish! I love it. It feels so accessible and homey and easy to get around. I may be delusional, I'll update my viewpoint after I get mugged or called a filthy tourist.
Central Park is...heaven. Specially the Bethesda Fountain and the place where they sail the little boats. Like, when it's sunny and it's Sunday and it seems like everything's, like, GLOWING with Sunday-morning-happy...that place is just..glorious.
P.S., it seems the US has young guys smoking corncob pipes, and fat black women with thick grey beards, why don't we have that here?
hey nyc tourguides: we need a place we can go and just sit and hang out, but has stuff to keep us occupied if we so choose, that serves alcohol and other stuff... something like a dave & buster's.
I'd like to play chess with Frank in the summer. That'd be a good afternoon I think. We could bet five bucks and have coffee and pocketnovels by our sides.

You'll always be that monkey on my back Moe.

There is a Dave & Busters in Times Square...but what about the under-21 folk?
sorry, that's what i meant to say but didn't... something like a dave & busters that EVERYONE can get into.
p.s. not dave & busters...people shouldn't come across the atlantic to go there.

Agreed. We should avoid chain places. I'll try to think of something.
anybody here interested in Andy Worhol's art? If I go, I'd like to see some of his work.

I think that you guys should do this, but wait until you are both in your 80's and all achey and argumentative.
I didn't read the whole thread, but did anyone say St. Mark's Books? Cuz, go there.
This signature does not quote anything. Evar.
I completely forgot about Central Park. I have to visit there.
Pssst. Essga11, I'm looking at rooms in New York right now.
Good coffee is like drinking Rock and Roll.
frank and i are taking a mini ballpark tour this summer!! THAT's a good afternoon with frank.
We need to check the schedules once they've been released to see how we can hit up a couple of parks in a couple of days.
That sounds like the greatest thing ever.
Fine chess rather than roulette, but I guess I have to learn to play chess before this summer ome.

Woohoo, I guess I have a lot more time to learn!

I have to play Roulette in a casino with Frank, better leave it till the lastnight in case I blow all my money.
By chess you mean roulette right?
By chess I mean SIGH!

Maybe this is just a New York thing? We totally don't have that in either Nebraska or Florida. And you'd think there would be an abundance of corncob pipes in Nebraska too!
There is hope, but not for us.
Omg. I just found half-a-dozen flights from Tampa to JFK for $79 on JetBlue.
If I can get time off work, I really have no excuse not to come.

ta-daaaaaaa
Getting time off work is the big Q, though.
I'm already taking a week off in March for my family reunion in Nebraska.
There is hope, but not for us.

just come up for the weekend, janey.
I could do that. Leave Friday morning and come back Sunday night. At that price, it's not unreasonable.

I'm down for this! We can take a quick trip to Atlantic City!

Why is it more expensive to fly out of Houston? No fair.

Because the plane never actually takes off and flies, it just swims up the coast like a giant fish.
There is hope, but not for us.

you need to go to l.a. then, she goes to this place called the log cabin on robertson, its also where the gays go, i used to go to a meeting in malibu where ally sheedy was always at the table, she's real serious. you know barca you should forget about ny and go to l.a., the weather'll be better and there's a lot of great sights to see, like the tate house. n.y. is dirty, crime filled and the people are ugly and have dreadful accents!
Prices on flights from here just went up by $50 a ticket at a minimum. This sucks. Stupid expensive oil.
If I got to meet Morey in New York then my Cult life would be complete. Check checking flights!
we could take off and watch the others engage in their awkward social dance! Their fumbling sexual flirtations and inability to hold their liquor would makes us laugh!

Lets make it happen Morey. I wont be drinking or going nuts so you will have someone to help record the others antics.

Jane you have to go. You going would probably convince my wife to take friday off work and go too. Which will make it much easier to justify getting a hotel room. Do it!
EDIT: I'm considering going sober for the weekend just in honor of Derek so that he doesn't have to be sober in NYC alone. I can get drunk anytime.

Well, obviously i'll be sober for the picking-people-up part, but beyond that, i'll admit it would be a challenge for me to stay sober in the city if I had a hotel room. If I don't get a room though, I would have a great excuse to drink club soda all night.

I hear ya.
everyone should at least not make drinking the reason for the trip, it sucks to be around drunk people when you aren't, and bars are bars no matter where you are.
By no means am I making the trip a reason to drink. I had already thought about it, but I know that one night I have to commit to going out and have a few drinks with moe.ron.

Jase thats very cool of you but no need to go without drinking for me, Im fine I managed 5 years with going out with my drunk friends. If I can go out in ireland for that long I can manage New York.
everyone should at least not make drinking the reason for the trip, it sucks to be around drunk people when you aren't, and bars are bars no matter where you are.
You're absolutely right morey, although I'm sure you know it isn't just about the drinking itself, some people (like me) are more sociable after a drink or two. I definitely agree though that it should not be all about the drinking. Getting shitfaced is never a great idea anywhere unless you are with people who have a good reason to take care of you. In this sort of deal, if anything, getting shitfaced gives people a reason to ditch you.

Cool then. I don't want to get all stupid anyway, it never ends well for me.
i can haz alcoholz responsiblee.
for the record.
