NYC Fancy Dinner Saturday Night (2/2)
Ok so Richard (WickerKat) and I have been discussing going somewhere really nice for dinner saturday night.
I'm thinking places that are $60-$120/person food and drinks.
I'm gonna try and look out for places that are jeans ok, but this may require a skirt or slacks I'll steer clear or jacket places though...
The ninja sushi Tom mentioned earlier sounds cool, and there are also some other classy french places that seem interesting to me.
I'm open to restaurant suggestions at this point, but was wondering who else whould be up for a pricey dinner while in NYC.
Post here if you're up for it. cause we may pick a place that requires reservations especially if there is a group of us going.
I think it sounds fun too. Sushi is out for me...yulk...I can do seafood as long as it's not raw, spoiled, or partially cooked. Maybe this is stretching it, but is anyone also gamed for a broadway musical after dinner? If we did that, it would easily stretch into a 200 dollar evening, and I have no idea what people's budgets are or what their tastes are in theatre.

oh man, i have been wanting to see the lion king for YEARS. If I had to choose I'd probably go for the play over the dinner. I'll have to look at my bank account and see if I can do both or if I need to choose one or the other.
Also, I think I might be able to get a deal on tickets via my American Express card, I'll have to look into that as well.

No one's impressed with your lack of respect.
We're all black sheep and we know it
So don't fuck it up for the rest.

My taste is more towards trying a traditional place over sushi too!!! yay
so that's cool
the best meal I've had here was a French - Vietnamese mix that had very traditional execution and was awesome.
so maybe I'll look for places that have more of a French style.
I would be up for the theater after, i've always wanted to see the lion king too!
wonder if we could somehow get a group rate on tickets?

anything aside from brains is ok with me - and japanese doesn't mean raw, nor does sushi - there are lots of great cooked things as well, but i'm down for whatever - i like french if it isn't TOO fancy, not big on pate/cheeses - would love fancy chinese or thai or fusion - or we also talked (some of us writers) about a good steakhouse
Carmine's is delicious Mark! Especially the one uptown. It's pricey but the pasta is good. They're chicken is fabulous too.

Hey What's this???
This is what I get for not joining you as a buddy Richard...you'll be in the city? can I come? I'd love to eat with you and Mark...
Oh this new forum reply is kinda funky, meaning I can't work it. Did you decide on a place?
Le Bernadin - best seafood in the city
Daniel - yum
Le(La) Grenouille - classic french stalwart
Aquavit has a new menu
The Blue Ribbon Chain is pretty good.
Alain Ducasse is opening a new place in NYC but not sure when, more casual than his last... oh I"m hungry. I don't care where, just would love to meet you all.....kristin (kaetea)
I can't go back to yesterday - because I was a different person then

OF COURSE you are in baby, didn't know it was an option. I'm only sorry you're not going to the AWP. The AWP crew is going to hang out, so as a fellow writer you are more then welcome, PM me we'll swap cells. Or Mr. Hash is putting one together too. Friday is Brother Jimmy's, Sat, as you see, is wide open. Your list looks great, somebody pick something. I'm down for anything that will rock my world.
Caleb, glad yo saw this too. Looks like we have plans Fri and Sat so far. That leaves Wed and Th!
No thanks.

I would love to but I seriously can't afford that kind of money on one meal so I may have to pass.
hmm...what to do saturday night?...
I'm out for Saturday night's dinner. Of course, we'll have a few days full of other stuff to do together. You guys have fun and enjoy a lavish meal.

We can think of something, I'm sure. Those of us who are not going to this dinner can surely go somewhere nice and enjoy a meal and maybe even conversation. That would be nice, I bet.

I don't really want italian unless it is the absolute best ever cause i'm almost never happy with what I get and i'm not dropping 60 bucks on a meh italian dish that I can make better myself. that's just my opinion. There is one italian place in chicago that I really like, but I do'nt like anything on thier menu only thier specials.
My preference is for something a little bit different but not tooo pretentious but just some really really good quality flavors and food that I'll remember. anyway i'll look into the ones suggested so far, if anyone has a place where they just think omg that food was awesome let me know.
I figure we can all meet back up later on in the evening or what have for hitting the bars and whatnot so for those not into a pricey meal its cool.

HEY GUYS,
so aparently restaurant week is going on that week and therefore places have special price fixe deals, for $35 bucks. Aquavit was all booked up otherwise I would like that one.
Brazzerie looks pretty good to me.

I would love to eat somewhere nice. I'm pretty flexible, except that I don't eat sushi/japanese food. Most other asian cuisine is cool with me. I to tend to like the more classical fine cuisine and less of that frou-frou nouveau stuff. don't get me wrong though, I can enjoy with the pine nuts and the mango salsa if need be.
Also, I loooove seafood.
