The New New York Meetup Thread
look, if you're going to try and put me in a cage at any time during this meetup, i would like to know in advance.
A cage? Well, only if we can't find anything entertaining to do during any given time of the meet-up. But, how do you feel about bondage?
Fool me once!
I'll fool you so many times, your grand kids will feel it.
We have a Dylan's Candy Bar in Houston. I'll tell you, it is a really cool place to visit. They carry an assortment of candy and have a dessert bar where you can get ice cream. I wish they'd had a place like that when I was a kid. Good call, Richard.

That place looks AMAZING!!! Like... Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, woah!
NYC weather for Wed-Sun:
Hi temps between 40-44, lows around 30, with 10-40% chance of showers. NOT BAD. Can do without the rain, but temps in the low to upper 40s is 5-10 degrees warmer then normal for this time of year. Just FYI.
Can you tell I'm excited?
Moe.ron suggested that anyone that wants to see the city, might be interested in getting a New York City Pass. How many would be interested in this?
Here's what the site has to say about the all inclusive ticket:
There’s not a moment to waste, which is why a New York CityPass is essential. A few clicks now and you have a ticket booklet to the most famous museums and experiences, for half what you’d pay at every gate. Hand over your CityPass in New York and you’ll zoom past the folks waiting in ticket lines.
Each ticket reveals tips, location and transportation information so you can plot your course to: the Empire State Building Observatory; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in midtown Manhattan; Guggenheim Museum on the Upper East Side; American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side across from Central Park; and an unforgettable Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise for views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, bridges, and the city you couldn’t see from a taxi. What’s a trip to the Big Apple without shopping and dining? A special offer gives you a discount and special attention at Bloomingdales, and 12 New York City restaurants.

I'm not going.............
to be able to keep from getting to excited about this.

Hah, you jerk.
I pretty much expected at least half the people who said they were going to end up copping out. But it seems not to have happened!
Does anyone know where Tom is so we can get the details about dinner on Friday night?
You see, I have this issue with making plans. I do it a lot - even if they might fall through - because I have this need to have kind of a 'map' when I go on an adventure.
I'm leaving here in less than 72 hours. I am excited and a little nervous at the same time.

what she said, and frank...you got me
also, i may be late or miss this friday dinner due to AWP stuff, but we'll see - i'm sure we'll have a nightly Cult meetup
only 2 more days at work and then I'm off! (well 1 and a half days to be precise) my excitement and nerves are going into overdrive!
Anyway I have a question about meeting at JFK airport...I get in at about 1:30pm on thursday and I'm just wondering if anyone will be hanging around to meet me or if I should prepare my own journey? The last thing I want is to expect someone and then no one is there...I might cry. Some people that should be at the meetup seem to fallen off the face of the planet so I'm a bit confused.
Well, I get there at approximately 1235hrs and then Derek arrives around 1300hrs. I don't see why we can't wait to meet you. Where are you flying out of? Maybe we can check the screens for your plane to arrive. I promise I'll wait for you if it makes you feel a little more comfortable. I wouldn't want your arrival to be full of crying. That goes for you to Derek.

Frank you are a star thank you
I'm flying from London Heathrow with British Airways and I get in to Terminal 7 at 13:35
Okay, good enough. I'm sure you'll have a little group waiting for you now. Maybe some lurkers reading this also.

there's 6 of us getting in between 12:30 and 1:30 on thursday at JFK.
actually it would be funny if an internet stalker showed up...
also I gave you'll the wrong phone number for jase.
Alex, I'll be making trips from JFK into Manhattan by car for anyone who prefers not to lug their belongings on public transportation. I can take four at a time (unless everyone has multiple suitcases). I suspect it will take about an hour per trip into manhattan and back, so two or three trips is not out of the question. If there are four or so people ready to go around 1:00 I'll take them out then round back for more, should be back by 2:00, so on and so forth. You're all coming into different terminals and customs can slow things down a lot. The phone list that's going around should help people get coordinated though, I guarantee at least one person will be delayed so we'll have to play this by ear on Thursday.
If you don't want to wait for a ride then cab fare into the city from the airport is a flat rate, I think $35 but it may have gone up since gas prices went up. If you have a heavy suitcase I strongly recommend a cab over the bus/subway/etc.
I'm coming in late Friday, I announce yet again, so hopefully you'll be traveling in some sort of post bar-b-q cluster so I can come find you kids. Any ideas where you might end up?
[Dj_iii] 3:00 pm: i'm a motherfuckin graphic designer
Bess, I think we are all clueless at this point.
Jase: I think Shana and I are the last to come in on Thursday. She plans on waiting for me and I will be there at 4:40. Are you still going to be taxi-ing at that point?

Des, yeah, that shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people hang to greet you guys when you get in. Plus it's very likely at least one person will get delayed an hour or two, especially the brave souls who are coming through customs, so you probably won't be the only ones there that late.
Travel safe everybody!
sweet - i guess i'm the only moron flying into laguardia - i'll be in late wed night about 10:40, and no worries, i'm trying to find a shuttle or if that doesn't pan out, i'll cab it - very excited
Richard,
I'm flying into La Guardia too earlier tomorrow. I found a shuttle service, very reasonably priced...17 dollars each way...

Mark, I checked that shuttle service. Looks good. I may not need it upon arrival but I will likely make use of it for my departure.
Anyone leaving at about 1PM on February 4th from the Ramada Hotel? We can fit up to 7 people in the shuttle. I'll book it if anyone is interested in sharing a ride.

I'll be leaving Feb 4th at 1:45pm so I'm in on the shuttle for sure. If it'll help, I'll volunteer myself to take a cab to the hotel instead of treating Jase like a cabby.

I'm anal about this stuff so I usually try to get to the airport an hour and a half before my flight, at the very least.

My flight leaves at 4 on the 4th. I was going to get there early so I wouldn't be left all alone in the city.
I have no idea how long it takes to get anywhere.

Hmm, I read that wrong. I guess I'll be leaving earlier than most. I can cab it back. No worries.

I'm frickin excited for you all. It's going to be so fun and I can't wait for all the surplus photos to start pouring in. I feel like I'm stuck at home and this amazing party with all my friends is going on in one of the greatest cities on earth.

just keep in mind, with the NY airports...especially if you are not from NY, you should really give yourself a gooood amount of time to check in and all...see myself...i am a lil' nuts when it comes to being on time for certain thiings, flights...buses, etc... life in general i am kinda whatever, but something pre-booked...i give a LOT of time.... but just remember NY airports are usually very busy and can be overwhelming if you are not used to the life in these here parts.
Chicago's OHare airport is used to be the busiest airport out there, so Im used to getting to an airport a couple hours early.

I woke up extra early this morning all escited. As soon as I get to JFK I willl start texting Frank and arrange to meet him. I should be in Terminal 4 at 1pm.
It's a plan.

wait, you guys are coming in tomorrow not today right?
yeah, its tomorrow.
Also, I think O'Hare is still the busiest, if not then I guess Atlanta is, which SUCKS. I hate that airport. Anyway, screw checking in at the airport. You can checkin online within 24 hours of your flight which saves tons of time. Then, if you are checking a bag, you walk up to the E-ticket machine, check your bag, the folks at the counter put a tag on it an you are on your way. If you aren't checking a bag, you only need time to get through security. Airports are pretty efficient these days. They say to get there two hours ahead of time, but thats usually a little excessive. The airport I'm flying out of says only an hour ahead of time, but then its probably not much larger than my house. (I am driving to a tiny town in east texas, I'm still surprised it was cheaper than here).
Oh, is anyone going to want to play darts with me? If so, I'm going to have to throw my tips away and buy new ones there. I'm hoping to carry on my luggage and I don't think they will let me on the plane with steel tip darts :worried:

haha i throw darts sooo funny...i am actually pretty good, but i have a shoulder condition, so i kind of, push them and people think it's the most ridiculous thing they have seen...
oh and when i was in florida, my friend and i were wasted playing darts in a bar, ans my friend threw one and it landed in the arm of the woman next to the dart board, luckily she was so drunk she just laughed... she did not laugh however when i went and hit her again.
she should have moved!
There are too many NY threads, I don't know what to post in!
Anyways, I am going to sleep now, and I'll be off at 3am, so I'll see you all in NYC. And again my info: Penn Station, 7:35pm friday, Lake Shore Limited from Chicago, staying at the Ramada Eastside, I'll touch base with folks once I am in and cleaned up a bit...don't call me, I'll call you
Later gators!
For someone who had all his shit together, today was a fucking wreck. I haven't slept in over 24hrs. I was gonna nap earlier but I ended up running some errands like going to the bank, picking up some things from the grocery store and picking up your surprises! Well, alll that was supposed to be stress free but it wasn't. I stood in line forever in the bank, the grocery store didn't have what I was looking for and the people who assisted me with the surprise... well. No worries, you're still getting them!
On top of all this I had to do more lanudry than I anticipated. I'm sure I'm going to be sick while in NYC because I've been having cold/flu like symptoms. I had to go back to the grocery store to get medication so I have been downing stuff trying to get rid of this or prevent it.
Next bitch I have is that I attempted to get my NYC pass thing and print out my boarding pass tonight. Well, my printer wasn't working so I had to go to work and do it there. Turns out that for some fuckin reason the things I needed to print out kept opening in notepad instead of with the adobe reader and I just about lost it. So not only will I have to wait in line with the other shmucks , I'll have to also call that NYCity pass place and tell them my shit didn't print but I was already charged for it and find out what I need to do to get it.
Finally, I am tired as heel, and I sort of forgot to eat most of the day. If I didn't have to be up early tomorrow, I'd be out at the bar right now. Only nice thing about today was talking to Cynthia.... end of mush and rant.
Wait, see you all tomorrow and stuff. Now end of rant.
Goodnight... the end.

Hey all meetup people. Richard and I are both here and staying the Shereton on 53rd and 7th......tomorrow Richard is going to AWP and since I didn't get my AWP pass on time, I'm either going to take a bus tour or go on a helicopter ride both and maybe go shopping...hell i'm gamed for anything. Any culties who are going to be here during the day can give me a buzz if you want.....I'll be going to Old Frankenstien tomorrow night.
twas the night before meetup...and all through New York.........you can finish it!

It is far to early to be awake. That being said, I'm glad to report I didn't oversleep! And I'm off..

Uh, so can I meet up with everyone? Nothing like a last minute band-wangon jumper, but here I am.
It's currently Thursday at about 4:00 pm. I live just outside the city in Greenwich, CT so I can drive back and forth. Someone tell me where you are all meeting tonight, and I can be there. I'd be happy to PM my cell # to the appropriate party as well.
If you let me show up, I might even buy a few rounds of drinks (please note, females will have a better chance of securing previously mentioned free drinks).
So where do I go? (Refrain from all the replies saying "To Hell" as it's the second stop on my itineray).

I don't even know if people are doing any specific meetup thing today (other than at the airport), TopGun. I think much of it will be starting tomorrow.
As far as I currently am aware, anyway.
Glam, thanks for the info.
So, where is everyone meeting tomorrow? :)
I'm trying here... give me something to go on. Please.
