ok I know there are already a few threads about this but I thought as it is getting closer to the meetup we should have a new thread to make any arrangements, ask questions, and generally be all excited.

I have a question: what are the chances I will need any vaguely smart clothes? I just don't want to not get let in somewhere cos my shoes aren't right or something.

Other than that I think I'm pretty sorted. Although I am getting a really nervous feeling every time I think about it! yeah I know I'm lame. I am uber excited too of course but this is a big journey for me as well as meeting all you guys Smile

Well, it's easier for guys to pack, as you say, smarter clothing, because we really just require a nice shirt and a decent pair of shoes, and we'll be let in almost anywhere. I'd suggest maybe taking a fancier outfit just in case, as we don't have much planned. We know you're capable of makiing just about any outfit look good ,so you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Wink
I plan on taking a couple of nice button down shirts and maybe a nice pair of slacks, and some semi dressy shoes, but other than that, I'll be in t shirts, sweaters and jeans for most of the trip.

I'm getting more and more excited. I have a surprise in store for all of you. That's all I'll say right now.

are we going to have a go-to cultie? tom or frank?  and some sort of cell phone exchange? not sure what everybody will be doing every night, but sounds like at least friday we should all hook up - i will probably be hanging with writer pals a lot, but i want to find a way to meetup with the culties as often as possible

aside from friday, we'd talked about hitting THE STRAND bookstore and MOMA on Sunday

most nights i'll be free by 5-6 from the NYC AWP - Thirstygerbil (Caleb), Grover (Mark Grover), and BostonNoir82 (Christopher Dwyer) will all be at this thing too, and Jase (Jason Heim) is planning on being down for a lot - hope i didn't screw anybody's names there

thoughts?

mr. hash is making a "phone tree" -- you should p.m. her with your cell.

i think a general itinerary is starting to take shape as ideas get floated and people buy-in.

well I'm planning on wearing jeans and casual boots for the whole time, but I guess at some point we might go to a bar/club/restaurant that doesn't allow casual wear. I'll bring something just in case but obviously don't want to bring my whole wardrobe!

Who's flying into JFK on Thursday?  I've almost secured a place to stay (a friend of my wife's in Brooklyn) so I'll be there around 12:30 with a car if people want rides.  I can take multiple trips if needed.  I know Frank gets in around 1, as well as Derek and Alex (who will take a bit longer due to customs).

PM me your airline, flight number, and cell number and we'll figure something out.  Also, if anyone who is already in town wants to meet there, let me know.  I have to take my dog to Brooklyn before going to the airport so I'm not sure yet if I can give the locals a ride to JFK.  Coming back though shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, since I'm not going, here's what you all have to do. You have to pretend the camera is me. Take so many pictures you'll be sick of them. I want to see all your smileing faces laughing and having a good time. MOMA! That sounds fun. GOD I WISH I WAS GOING.

jase, i think a group of the girls is coming in later, like 5ish.  is that thread frank made w/ everyone's flight info still around?

i'd like to add that people shouldn't be shy about PMing jase for a ride.  you do not want to be dealing with your luggage on public transportation!!

Des and I are the last ones flying in on the afternoon of the 31st.  I think Melody's flight arrives at 4:40 and mine gets in at 3:18 - I'll be waiting for her so we can travel together.

I am already thinking about packing and the trip is over 2 weeks away!  I understand what you mean about making sure you have a fancy outfit for the trip - just in case - Alex.  I think I might have to set something special aside for any dress up events that could possibly happen.  That's the beauty of this meet up - you never know!

I am really looking forward to meeting you all and seeing the city.  This has all worked out so well and I couldn't be happier with it.  Yay!

Jase, is the reason that you can't pick up the locals simply that you don't wanna drive around town like a cabbie? Because if that's the only issue, I can meet you in Brooklyn (Hey, it beats the seven bucks I'd have to spend getting there via airtrain). If it's something else, though, that's understandable.

Levi,

Don't worry about it!  I love taking photos and I have a new camera that I'm so excited to use.  I ordered a 4G compact flash just for the trip so I'll be taking hundreds of photos to share.  It will be insane and everyone will be tired of smiling - even Frank.

The only reason is because I'll have my dog with all her shit (crate and other stuff) in my car on my way to Brooklyn.  After I get the dog situation handled and drop off my stuff, I was going to go straight to JFK rather than jumping back over into Manhattan.  However, if you'll already be in Brooklyn, I'll definitely take you there.  I've got your cell, so expect a call around noon-ish on the 31st and I'll come find you.

So at one point I was a Cultie, and after some misunderstandings and other unfortunate events I stopped being one. So I decided to log in and damn, look, I was allowed to log in. Imagine my surprise when my dumb ass realized there's a Cult meetup. So uhm, I'm back and can anyone fill me in on this shindig?

Thank you kindly.

As far as smart clothes go, I will be relying on jeans that can be dressed up.  I find it to be an easier option for traveling.  And if we decide to go somewhere that jeans with heels and the proper accessories isn't dressy enough, I probably can't afford it anyway!!

But then, maybe thats just me?

I hear you. I thought about it and I don't think i'm going to take any dress pants. I do have a couple nice pair of jeans so i think that'll be good enough. I will be taking a couple dress shirts so that should be good.

I was gonna bring some jeans, some sweaters, a going out top and a skirt if I wanna get dressy

with my black boots cause they can go either way and a pair or two of heels.

oh and of course my coat.

I highly doubt you guys need fancy clothes. Anywhere around here that is even decently affordable and isn't a wack ghetto club will let you in in a decent pair of jeans and clean shoes.

also, i doubt also you will need clothing that is uber fancy or anything.  and seeing as how i don't even own a pair or heels (i don't believe in them) and pretty much just rock my own style anyway which people don't tend to understand...i don't really get too concerned about dressing up...even in NYC.

cool. I also own no heels. never have.

I was thinking I've managed to get through life so far with my usual wardrobe so I hopefully it will also suffice in nyc...thought I'd better check tho!

Okay–so I scored some frequent flyer miles so I might actually be making this happen. Are there any girls that might want a roomie for Friday and Saturday night at the hotel? I might be screwed at this late date, but I thought I'd ask. I gotta get on it if I'm going to make it up there!

Just a lil' FYI, to whom it may concern and whatnot...

If everything works out, me and Bess will probably grab a room at the ramada for friday and saturday night...I think she's checking on getting her flight worked out.

Me being me, I had to do something different, I am taking the train...possibly, I haven't booked yet. Anyways, I am going to schedule it to give me some Midday Chicago time on the 31st, to run around and play, and then I will arrive at Penn station at like 8pm-ish Friday night the first. Kinda late, I know. I am debating how long I will stay after saturday night, I may change up and either stay at a hostel for a few more days, or some other funky hotel, depends on money. Anyways, that's the plan, or as much of a plan as I can offer Smile
