MidWest Meet-Up July 16/17
Ok, so the couple of meet-ups that have happened over the past month have me wanting to see a larger one come about. It keeps getting mentioning but never anything definite is discussed on whether or not we could have one, or even when we could all get together. I am anouncing now that I am willing to have a meet-up at my home in Indiana.
I live 60 miles north of indianapolis, and about 100 miles south of Chicago (if that far). For any of you interested in Purdue University, it's only 7 miles from my home. All you Chicagians that have heard of the amusment park, Indiana Beach, it's 20 miles north of me. And my small town of Battle Ground has 2 state parks located withing it's limits: Tippecanoe Battlefield and Prophetstown State Park. The Battle field (5 blocks away) is the site of the Battle of Tippecanoe, and Prophetstown is still under construction and harbors a lot of resentment from the land owners here.
I have a very large yard right in the middle of town. It is more than an acre which makes it a pretty secluded spot even though it's dead center. My back yard could easily host a small tent city for a weekend, and it comes equipped with a fire pit for gathering and singing and chatting (I won't have a home without one), and lots of room for frisbie and games. I also have 1 and half baths (everyone must potty sometime).
I'm an old married woman with kids, so I'm easily prepared for large gatherings as I host all the family holidays at my house, and I'm a pretty good cook as well. Special preferences will require your input, and help is alway accepted.
So, There you go, I have put the offer on the plate. Where we go from here depends upon the responses from all of you. If you live within a state or two and are really wanting a meet-up, my home is available to all who wish to come. What say all of you?

I am all for a meet up as long as it is sometime in the summer. I wouldn't mind meeting more of you folks. It would be great to have a large (maybe 7 or more) turnout.

I can (and have) accomodate 20+, so there's no need to fear over crowding me. And if you don't care for the camping scene, there's a Super 8 a couple miles up the road, and about 10 miles from me in Lafayette, is an entire highway of hotels, motels, restaurants, and shopping. So please don't not come just because of the simple lodging at my home.

This is a semi decent shot of my yard (yesterday. Still cleaning up from winter) to give you an idea of the space that I have available.
The 2 story building on the right is my house (it's a duplex. I have the lower unit), and the building just to the left of the shed is a great restaurant/bar right across the street/rr tracks.

I'm all for this. Believe me, an acre lot is PLENTY of room for a party. A weekend in the summer sounds ideal for me. I'll gladly help with anything cooking-related.

Oh, thank you. That's just one of my gardens. I have 3 that big or larger and several small spots that I just dumped palnts into. But it's coming around. In the center of the back yard there's a nice bed which I usually grow LOTS of tomatoes and peppers of all kinds. By mid July - August they're fully fruited. Cna't get any other food crops to grow on this sandy lot.
But you'll see all this when you come out!
Now for thopse of you outside Chicago: Min, you're in Ohio, right? And VP is in Kentucky? Morey's in northern Michigan. How about you guys? Wanna come over and play?

I'm thinking that if the interest is strong enough that mid June/early July would be a good time. I'm gonna take off another semester, so I'm fine anytime through the summer.

well dang, i just got on the tele, called in the automation for vacation anywhere between june and july and im one of 4 waiting in line for slots, which means theyre taken up and unless another teamlead cancels, im screwed.

I'm in. I have a three person tent that I've only ever used once, for Woodstock '99, and this sounds like just the right deal to break it out again.
And since I'd probably be coming from Rochester, NY (in between Buffalo and Syracuse) I'd be willing to pick anyone up along the way who might not have a ride...
I'd be up for this later this summer, when it's warmer. (yeah, I've only I've skimmed the thread a little...)
I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota and I can get ahold of 2 or 3 tents if needed.

I think it would be wonderful to have a little weekend away camping in your backyard. I have a really big tent (sleeps about 6 thought it claims 8) but it gets very cold if the night temp is below 40 (who would've thought that it would be 25 out at night in August), I would also be totally willing to help out with cooking or planning or supplies of any kind (I think that camp fire food is the best it always tastes so good). I would guess that a Saturday to Sunday in June, July or August would work best. I personally love weekend camping trips and usually take them whenever I can so for me it's just right. and gracias for offering the use of your yard for the meet up.
